Idk what it is, but I’ve always loved the concept of ‘Posessed character does bad, horrible things to friends without friends realizing they’re possessed’ tropes. The sheer desperation and lack of control over the situation whumpee always has over it is what gets me. Bonus if the whumpee can see what whumper is doing in their body and can’t do anything about it. They see themselves torturing their friends over the course of months- twisting past conversations, using the trust they worked so hard to earn against them, and manipulating them for their own wills.
Friends slowly realize something’s off with Whumpee, but they put it behind them since Whumpee sometimes acts strange during their depressive episodes. They simply think Whumpee is having a relapse, which makes them more prone to helping the possessed Whumpee in anything they need.
Whumper sees this and starts acting like they’re having a relapse. New bandages, skipped meals, eye bags, etc. Caretaker gets especially worried about Whumpee and starts giving them more intimate care.
Slowly, though, Whumper begins to… care about the people Whumpee knew. They possessed Whumpee for the sole purpose of gaining something- but whumpee’s friends refuse to relent, even though they knew they were being manipulated. They were caught off guard at the sheer protective attitude whumpee’s friends were giving them.
(Bonus points if whumper had mental health issues before <3 bonus if whumper was a whumpee before <3 bonus if whumper was hurt and abused and had never had someone berate and scream at them for not taking care of themselves like whumpee did <3)
Imagine if Whumper tried to do things- fully expecting whumpee’s friends to at least argue- only for them to smile and agree with no explanation. Imagine if there was a caretaker that saw straight through whumper’s behavior and was secretly telling whumpee’s friends about it. Imagine if whumpee’s friends manipulated the manipulator.
Imagine whumper finally told one of whumpee’s friends after they screamed at them for hurting themselves in some way. Imagine if whumper was slowly turning into the person they possessed- gaining their little quirks and having their brain be twisted the longer they posses someone. Imagine if the caretaker simply looked into the possessed whumpee’s eyes and said ‘I know’.
Imagine if whumpee’s friends also grew to care about the whumper possessing whumpee, despite what whumper was doing. Imagine they started to find a way to get whumper out of whunpee’s body whilst still getting whumpee back.
This kind of came out of nowhere; I would love to expand on this concept tho
