I loved Call me by No Name (I will admit, I started watching it because there’s two Super Sentai Pink Rangers who play the couple but my heart broke)
SPOILERS + SA IS PART OF THE STORY
I'm going crazy over Kotoha. She is so repulsed by someone being nice to her. She tries to make Megumi to chiken out and leave her like everyone else has, but also she like Megumi so much that she isn't really trying. Megumi can't be friends with her she have to date her. And when Megumi said she actually fell in love with Kotoha, she said yeah but prove it and have sex with me.
And Megumi is busy with her self loathing and new born feelings, that she hasn't even think that far, but she would be really into it. bUT what if Kotoha leaves her then, because she doesn't sleep with anyone twice??
Kotoha is trapped to maintain the devil girl image and Megumi is trapped to maintain the angel girl image, and they are both so tired of it and more complex, and they feel like maybe they've been really seen for the first time with flaws and all. Ugh I hate it (actually loves it).
This is the toxic yuri I like the most. Two mentally ill girls can make the drama up out of the thin air in a one room apartment.
The way they talk each other so politely but weirdly intimate, so hot and then cold. And what's with the hand touching? I feel personally attacked by it. And everything is visually so pretty, blue and pink and amazing camera work.
Call Me By No Name Finale Thoughts
“Why are you always like this, Meguchi? Why do you still like me?”
“There’s no reason for liking.”
“I’m scared, Meguchi.”
“Of what?”
“One day, I’ll end up hurting you. Because that’s the only kind of love I know.”
This episode being from Kotoha’s POV was a great move and a nice way to wrap up the story. Kotoha is such a special character to me. She isn’t a perfect victim. She’s mean and nasty and she treats Megumi poorly. There’s no excuse for her behavior but the way the show slowly revealed her history as time went on was such a beautiful way to examine such a complex situation/character.
Kotoha is cold and abrasive to mask her feelings of inadequacy and the fear that she’ll only end up hurting other people because of the abuse she endured as a child. She calls her birth name a literal curse because of the horrible meaning behind it and the association it will always have with her mother. SHE KEEPS ALL OF HER BELONGINGS IN PLASTIC BAGS BECAUSE SHE REFUSES TO OPEN UP TO ANYONE ABOUT HERSELF. Her first instinct in conflict is to lash out and run away. She says and does the meanest things possible to make people hate her and to hurt herself by convincing herself nobody can ever love her. She truly believes she’s damaged and unworthy of anything serious.
Megumi sees all of this and still decides to stay. She refuses to take Kotoha’s bad behavior personally and chooses to help when she’s got her own complicated history surrounding saving people and being selfless. Megumi continues to push past her own comfort zone during her time with Kotoha because she’s willing to try something new, even if she’s unsure of where it will lead. Everyone else might not like Kotoha, not even her friends, but Megumi trusts her feelings and expresses them openly despite what the consequences might be. She’s always looking out for Kotoha and showing up for her even if that means asking someone else to make sure she gets home safely.
I should say that Megumi isn’t perfect either! She can be selfish and a little self-righteous at times. She’s also unapologetically blunt and can be rude herself.
The way this show has tackled trauma and abuse and the long-standing impact it can have on future relationships is incredibly special to me. Neither Kotoha or Megumi are positioned as saving the other because they’re both two people with their own shit to work on but they’re willing to work on it together. No matter how ugly or uncomfortable it may be. And that means a lot to me!
“My happiness is mine to decide! Fate, curses, none of that matters. Even if I hurt Kotoha from now on, or if the two of us have to face something terrible, I want to be happy with you!”

I watched Call Me By No Name's finale when it aired, but the subject was too heavy for me, so I sat with my conflict. I liked it. But I also hated that I liked it.
Because everything was so beautiful, but it was also so ugly.
I still have no idea what I actually have to say about it, but I will continue to state that the director gave one of the most compelling visual narratives I've seen in a while because this finale hurt me in the most beautiful ways with something as simple as flowers.
We flashed back to the first night Kotoha spent at Megumi's apartment, which is spliced with Kotoha's abuse from her mother, and the visuals start to make sense.
The blue flowers Kotoha sees are -the- flowers.
And that's one of the reasons it's difficult to write about this because the way the colors were used to reflect the tragedy was so well done, but it seems callous to appreciate all these hideous moment for their beauty.
But it's only the beginning of me being bothered by how much I adore the color coding in this show since it now makes sense why Kotoha initially wanted to harm Megumi since Megumi is all pinks and love.
Which slightly reminded Kotoha of her mother.
Then we see her mother turn dark which continues into the present when her mother showed up at the school in all black.
It makes sense why Kotoha's life resembles trash since that is where she finds comfort.
She is actually just trying to keep everything clean and safe in plastic bags.
She is trying to protect these precious items against the dirtiness of the world and what she believes is also the dirtiness of herself.
So it was a relief to see her finally take one out of those items out of it's protective bubble, especially because it was the one to witness all her trauma.
I'm also glad that this not-so-great guy turned blue and helped Kotoha out in the end.
Because it helped her gain her color back.
She has the blue color because of her mother, which is awful, but she is not dark like her mother. She is blue. Her color and her pain are hers.
And I think because of Megumi's own trauma, she keeps reaching out to Kotoha because she sees another person trying to move beyond the pain while it's still very much a part of them.
Their colors are theirs. Their pain exists.
So I liked the finale. I liked that the visual narrative emphasized that the pain changes us and lingers, but it doesn't always have to change us for the worst. That we can make the color ours.
And that we can turn trash (rings) into gold.
Because one person's trash is another person's treasure.
ok but if i was 8 or 10 and saw 2 women kiss on the beach while one of them promised to get my plushie from the sea, it would be forever imprinted in my head

People are sleeping on familiar/platonic relationships when it comes to media in favor of romantic/sexual ones and it's so sad. Why can't we have both? Why are the platonic relationships pushed aside?
people who get mad at fanfic writers who write about taboo, fucked up topics are so funny to me because 9 out of 10, they will see a properly rated, properly tagged fic (or they will deliberately seek out these fics) with all the trigger warnings, purposefully ignore those warnings, sit and read the fic on their own free will and then act shocked that all of the things that the author warned and tagged are in the fic, then they try to convince other people to harass the author because how dare the author hurt a fictional character in their fic that they wrote for themself. then these people will sleep better knowing they harassed a real person for the sake of a fictional character and, according to their mindsets, that makes them morally superior, not… you know… bullies

Hey guys something fucking bad happened
KOSA/the kids online safety act has been reintroduced into legislature after it passed Senate last year and then got snubbed. It is not unlike the bill that just passed in the UK a few weeks ago. If you don't want what happened in the UK to happen here, now would be a good time to vocally oppose it.

Listen I’m an American but we do ruin everything, why the fuck would we need an American Squid Games? We don’t need to taint everything we enjoy 😭😭
It’s so awesome how Gi-hun and In-ho ran away to raise the baby together after Jun-ho and his boyfriend blew up the island. I love how that’s definitely how Squid Game ended and that it’s canon that In-ho and Gi-hun got married and went to LA together to introduce Ga-yeong to her new baby sister. And that everyone lived happily ever after. Canonically. Because that’s what happened. In the show.
What the fuck was the season
