My mom literally went 👀 when we watched Enid say (to a man she’s about to kiss), “I just can’t imagine my life without [Wednesday]” in S2E2. She then told me that I’ve helped her “see things through a new lens” since we’ve watched stuff like The Wilds, YJ, and A League of Their Own.

So basically my mom became a Wenclair shipper all on her own. We’re not even done with Part 1.

In another universe, season 3 of The Wilds came out in 2024 and had a satisfying ending. Leatin got together, Shoni got back together, Gretchen got even more fucked over, Seth exploded, and all the boys and girls got some kind of justice. In this better universe, I watch the show from start to finish all the time and think to myself, “wow, we got so lucky.”

Sigh.

I vividly remember the first time I saw the trailer for S1 and I thought, “oh I’m gonna love this show.”

And fuck I was so right.

shauna shipman has got to be one of the most interesting characters of all time. she’s bisexual. or jackiesexual. she keeps up with goth culture. she listens to weezer and the cranberries. she’s incredibly pretentious. she decides to pull out a gun on her teammate also ex girlfriend to prove she’s not insane. she owns a minivan. she drinks malibu and milk. she tries to seduce her husband with a british accent. she engages in adult cannibalism. she even loves cats.

the way so many Yellowjackets fans are talking about season 3 feels so reminiscent to how the Wilds fans spoke about season 2 before it got cancelled

I was going to write a meta on why Jackie’s reciprocated feelings for Shauna are so blatant when you read between the lines of her scenes, but just letting the show speak for itself in video form makes it even clearer. I love how much their relationship is layered in subtext and double meaning, and the further into the show we get the more this is all cemented as totally intentional.

If I had a nickel for every time a teen girl wilderness survival show had a homoerotically charged scene where one girl said “I’ll fucking kill you” while another was pinned to a rock/tree, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot. BUT HOW IN THE FUCK DID IT HAPPEN TWICE
