Presenting ByRach — Blog & Shop

Hello hello, Rach here!

I am Raquel, in Portuguese, the creator behind ByRach, previously known as NotionByRach. I am a 19-year-old college student, and I love to watch videos about productivity.

Since a few years ago, I think in 2019, right when the pandemic started, I wanted to open a small business; something like a digital shop. I brainstormed some ideas, and everything was always about either creative writing or student tools. However, life got in the way and I ended up not starting anything then.

Later on, I started learning more about Notion, and discovered a world of possibilities! And well, once I felt familiar with the software, I decided it was time to try to build a set up and see what other people think about it.

I also manage another account, Souls Collide, and it has been quite successful (for my goals, of course). I posted tools and resources for writers there, and later on had to open a Gumroad shop (first called NotionByRach) to host a Notion template. It was targeted at writers and people who wanted a place to manage their ideas and stories. The community seemed to love it! I gave it as a freebie, of course, and I knew it was a long journey until I could sell templates. So I did more, and more!

For about 9 months, I kept creating printables, templates, and other resources and built a small community on Gumroad- about 3,000 people who loved my freebies. This was a huge motivation for me to keep going and working on my shop!

Then, the right moment for a rebrand approached: I started listing products on Etsy, and knew I should elevate it. For me, NotionByRach didn’t make sense anymore, since I knew I would be selling other products and not just Notion templates. I kept ByRach, and changed the color palette to look more like me.

My mission is to help other students, whether they’re in high school or college! I still want to keep some products for free and send them through my newsletter, because I believe everyone should have access to these useful resources. I plan to write posts here on this blog frequently, give you tips, and show you some tools and other resources.

I don’t want to be seen as a brand or a shop, but as me, Rach! My inbox is open, if you want to pass by and say hi, or share your achievements (I will definitely cheer with you!)

So, recently I've released my newest freebie: an eBook called "From Spark to Story" that works as a guide for anyone who wants to write a book from start to end!

In this post, I will show you what you can find inside this freebie, and how you can get the most out of it.

Firstly, this eBook isn't too extensive. In only 28 pages and 7 chapters, you can find the bases for each writing phase, from brainstorming to the actual writing. It is meant to be a quick read, not too tiring, to motivate and give some knowledge about crafting a book from scratch.

August challenge for writers

Hello hello, it's me!!!

Today I'm bringing another challenge! Since August is arriving in a couple of days, I thought of planning an incredible challenge with lots of daily prompts to keep the habit of writing every day.

You're invited to join me and over 70 people (so far) in August's challenge and have the opportunity to make friends along the way.

So, how will the challenge work?

After enrolling (link at the end of the post), you'll immediately receive an Excel sheet to track your words through the challenge and a link to my new discord community, counting with over 20 members already.

Then, on August 1st, you'll receive your first daily prompt in your inbox and develop it into a short story with no word limit! Every day of the month will be like this until August 31st (and you'll receive something special if you get to the end of the challenge!)

Is there something else?

Well, yeah!

If you join the Discord community, when the challenge is over I will open a thread to submit your favorite prompt and people will vote on their favorite!

Sure! Recently I've decided to create a server on Discord called Souls Collide Community, counting with lots of chat rooms with different purposes, rooms with lo-fi and classical music to get work done, and cool bots such as cats and a tree to have fun!

THE WRITER'S WORKBOOK - free

Hello hello, it's me!

Today I'm here to tell you about each feature of "The Writer's Workbook", which you can download for free.

Note: this workbook has two variations, so you can print it or use it digitally as a PDF.

I designed this workbook in an intuitive way so that the plot progresses as you go further in the exercises. It is divided in six big categories: Idea & Plot, Character Development, World Building, Writing, Journal, and Resources.

Note: feel free to skip exercises or to complete them in any other order than the one suggested by me!

IDEA & PLOT

This section is meant to help you develop your idea before you even know who your characters are.

In this part, you will choose the central conflict, write down keywords about your idea, and draw a mind map. Then, you'll proceed to find your voice through different exercises, to then find each key point of the plot, from exposition to resolution.

It's also in this part that you are going to come up with plot twists and the ending of the book.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Here, as the name says, you will completely develop all your characters, from the protagonist to the side characters. You will also have the opportunity to develop their relationships through mind maps and brainstorming processes.

WORLDBUILDING

Just like the other categories, worldbuilding is a fundamental step when plotting a novel.

In this workbook, you'll be asked to draw or generate a map of your world so that you always have it near you whenever you need it. There are also some prompts to fill out about it, and locations to create and explore.

In this part, you can also make a timeline for all the main events in your world.

WRITING

Now that most of your story is planned, it's time to think about writing it!

This section is perfect to come up with the best title for your book, brainstorming and develop the opening scene, and fully developing each key point using the snowflake method.

There's also a place to write down all the scenes and chapters you want to include in your book and check it off as you write it.

JOURNAL

This part is for you to reflect on your writing goals, on your ideas, and to see your progress. It's important to check this often and make sure you always have your goals in mind!

Here you will find some useful resources from writing communities to courses and softwares to help you in this process and, hopefully, make it easier!
