Something noone really talks about concerning deadnames

Bare in mind this is just my experience but when it comes to deadnames I’ve not really heard people talking about fucking up themselves. For the first few weeks after changing my name it wasn’t just other people messing it up, it was me too. This doesn’t mean my new name wasn’t right. It just means that after a lifetime of reacting to my old one, no matter how much I wanted to use a new one, old habits are hard to break.

People would fuck up and accidentally call me my old name, coworkers, friends and family, and to make it worse I’d respond out of some knee jerk reaction and we’d both feel like shit.

I just want people to know that it gets better, eventually your deadname gets filtered out and you stop grinning like a lunatic when people get it right. Your new name will eventually become utterly mundane and I love that and hope everyone who changes their name reacher this point of pure fucking joy in the mundane.

So don’t beat yourself up like I did for fucking up your own name, it’s a learning curve for everyone involved.

This was so long ago, but so true. I LOVE looking back on old stuff like this to see a past version of myself

Especially when I'm right about something.

Since then I've met someone with my deadname and though it was a struggle initially, I can now say that it's their fucking name, not my old one.

I wish I could talk to my past self and tell them it only gets better, and I hope that in a few years I look back on this and think the same :)

Countrycide just works really really well as a Torchwood episode, and I also think its placement right in the middle of Season 1 was a brilliant decision. I certainly didn’t expect a breach in the ‘the threat is supernatural/alien’-formula at that point.

Also, I believe this is the first time all five work together? And they are doing quite well - which is shocking.
