★ Oumota Day 2026 ★

We're holding the first Oumota event of the year on March 14th, also known as White Day!

White Day is a holiday that originated in Japan in 1978. As Valentine's Day in Japan has traditionally been a holiday where women give chocolate as gifts to men they like, White Day was marketed by chocolate companies as a day for the men to reciprocate those gifts and affections. Given the gendered nature of these traditions, queer couples often choose to celebrate these holidays in their own way.

Oumota Day is a single day event dedicated to spreading love for the wonderful creations of the Oumota fan community. There will be 3 prompts to choose from (or combine!) and all you need to do in order to participate is create and share content inspired by one or more of the prompts! Post your work here on Tumblr and use the tag #oumotaday or #oumotaday2026 and it will be reblogged by us as soon as we see it. If you would like to specifically make an Oumota Day piece that is White Day themed, it's welcomed but certainly not required! White Day iconography commonly features the colors white & pastel blue, white chocolate, marshmallows, hearts, lilies, and roses.

Reason 500 why Kaito Momota makes me absolutely bawl my eyes up is that when in ch5 everyone is saying that if he was here his optimism would bring them hope; he's stuck in the hangar feeling like an absolute failure.

They immediately think that his presence would make the situation better. While hes probably dying on a bathroom floor thinking about all the ways he failed them, all the ways hes not enough, all the ways Shuichi is better than him.

And god it makes me sick he doesnt understand that maybe hes not capable of saving the day like the badass hero he desperately wants to be but god does he make it better for everyone, he helps them, he inspires them, his presence makes the situation just a tiny bit better because thats just the way he is.

Yeah, good point! I've honestly thought about this a lot too—

Kaito, with his definitely genuine optimism, proved that he had an incredible amount of resilience, and because of that, the group saw him as someone who would be helpful—essential, even—in such desperate times.

At this point, they could barely even imagine what they’d do without him. They were convinced that once they saved Kaito, he’d think of something that could bring them closer to finding their new hope.

Which is… a lot of pressure to put on a terminally ill teen who can barely keep himself standing—

The tragic part is that Kaito kind of put himself in that position. The group only saw him as this huge beacon of hope because he made himself look that way. Like someone who could overcome anything. He became what he always wanted to be—someone everyone could rely on. But beneath all his pain and insecurities, he barely even realized.

And Kokichi was in a similar, yet different, kind of dilemma.

Especially after the Hope’s Peak Flashback Light, the group latched onto the idea that if they stopped him—the supposed mastermind—the despair and senseless deaths would finally end. But—

Kokichi wasn’t the mastermind.

Just like Kaito, he spent most of his time in the hangar completely isolated. Alone with his thoughts, forced to reflect on the killing game and his own actions. But because of how Kokichi framed himself, the others were convinced he was the evil behind all their suffering—and that stopping him would change things for the better.

And Tsumugi. Tsumugi.
