I propose an alternative to "not my circus, not my monkeys" which is "I'm only a monkey in this circus".
Damn, something you always sorta knew but didn’t realize until it’s made explicit like this lol.
This is amazing. My nephew's name is on this list.
The twist: he's stealth trans. He chose that name.
I'm about to inflict untold psychic damage on my nephew.
i went to "mad at me" island expecting to find people i knew, something i understood. but when my boat landed, standing upon the shore were a million empty husks wearing my own face. every foot of the island was occupied, and everywhere i went, they watched me with contempt. they never spoke, never breathed. they simply watched. no matter how i grovelled and begged, snarled and cursed, tried to hide or kicked and hit, they simply stared. the hatred in their gaze was inescapable, but i could hardly return it, knowing that their doomed existence was of my own creation. knowing that the hatred was nobody's but my own. in the end i just wept, unable to stand the relentless gaze of my own infinite glare.
the guy who i accidentally cut off in traffic last week was there also
i can handle one (1) Event™ per day. whether it be a phone call, an appointment, trip to the grocery store, play date with a friend, etc. only one, that's it. any more than that and i am Stressed
Unofficial Autism Post
You guys have GOTTA learn to stop seeking absolution from strangers online.
If someone says "haha Americans are so self-centered they don't know anything about other countries", you don't gotta jump in and explain that actually it's not your fault because you had a bad education. Just learn from the post and move on!
If someone says "white people hate rap because they're racist", you don't gotta jump in and start listing all the totally valid reasons you personally don't like it. You don't have to justify your music taste to strangers, just move on!
If someone says "people should be more involved in their local communities" you don't gotta jump in and start listing all the reasons that you personally can't leave your house and so actually the original post is really ableist. Just accept that the post doesn't apply to you and move on!
Stop publicly demanding that the internet absolve you of sins that some random dipshit made up, it is always going to make you look bad and you'll wind up trapped in an anxious cycle of needing external validation for every aspect of your personality. You don't have to justify yourself to randos on the internet.
The other reason you have to stop doing this is because when you have to come up with reasons and justifications for liking or not liking something, it slides into problematic REAL fuckin quick.
Like it's not racist to not like rap music but once you start grasping for reasons why rap is universally bad (so that it's okay that you don't like it) you're gonna get real racist real fast.
It's also okay to think about the statement and consider whether it applies to you! You just don't need to externalise that conversation with a random stranger who, I promise, is bored of having it because ten other people have done the same thing today. "People should be more involved in their local communities" -> "Hmm, I agree with that but I'm personally not involved with my community and I don't like feeling called out for this" -> "I know I'm not involved because of xyz, I don't need to tell everyone that, but if I still feel uncomfortable with it maybe I should reassess this or look for other ways to be involved!" And then if you still can't work out a way to do it, you can rest assured that any residual discomfort is not particularly logical a feeling, and move on. You've identified a statement that makes you feel defensive, examined why that is, and worked out what can be done with it. Congratulations!
And none of this involved bothering a stranger
