Kind of want to read a fanfic in which Percy gets to know Harry a little better over one of the summer he spends in their house and realizes not only the abuse he’s going through but also how the MoM had a hand on that (since there is no way James and Lily didn’t have a will while living in a war and knowing they were targets, and very obviously wouldn’t leave their magical kid to their prejudiced relatives, so the Ministry at best didn’t follow the will by accident which I imagine is negligence and probably illegal and at worst didn’t on purpose which is criminal) so he slowly but surely takes over the damn government, and, after the Tournament starts, uses the kidnapping of minors by the government since there is No Way Molly Weasley would have agreed with the Second Test and I dont think Hermione’s parents were even warned) as leverage to take down the Minister and put Amelia Bones in his place, settling down in a high position and maximizing his own chances for the next elections.
Bones declares that magical contract doesn’t work on a minor who didn’t consent and takes Harry off the competition, and after a few memos, out of the Dursleys’ hands. She also realizes Sirius never got a trial and gives him one, so he’s innocent. After the Dursleys situation she doesn’t trust Dumbledore as much as she used to and she investigates, finds out the many times he was negligent while students were in danger, and gives enough fuel to the Board that they fire him as Headmaster, put Minerva in his place, and, as only the Headmaster can kick someone out of the castle, he just kind of stays there as a human shield between the students and Voldemort.
Professor McGonagall values the defense of children way more than he did so she has a lot more of precautions and False Moody is caught while Pettigrew manages to get some of Harry’s blood by biting him as a rat and running. Fifth year never happens as it did in the books because the Ministry is aware of Voldemort’s threat and is doing its best to prepare for the war, but the DA still happens because Minerva asks Harry to create an official club to help prepare the students for what might happen in the war.
Dumbledore tries to keep Harry ignorant but people trust him a lot less now so Harry knows about the prophecy and doesn’t run to the Ministry, but warns Minerva, who warns Amelia and redeems herself like that(remember how she didn’t believe Harry in the first book?). Sirius doesn’t die. Dumbledore is still there in the sixth year but Minerva is as well and insists in knowing what the hell they’re talking about, which means Dumbledore has no way of being as cryptid as in the books and explains a lot more of the plan to Harry.
Minerva calls Draco to her office after the first assassination attempt and after she made Dumbledore tell her what’s going on with Draco and offers him and his family protection, so he disappears after the end of the year in a safe house with his parents. Snape kills Dumbledore but the Order already knew. Harry finishes his education while the Order hunts Horcruxes, but he finds the last one in Hogwarts and kills it with a basilisk fang while Voldemort is trying to invade the school.
Snape tells him, he dies, but comes back. And in the duel with Voldemort, who got a new wand, turns out that the power the dark lord knows not is a bunch of people that you actually care about, are ready to fight with you, and that can’t be hurt because you just literally died for them. Check and mate.
So anyway if anyone out there wants to write this-
