Seeking answers to fading visions, the JEDI COUNCIL has dispatched KNIGHT TAVREN SOLIS to investigate strange disturbances along the galactic rim. Ships have vanished without trace. Instruments fail. Hyperspace twists and warps as if wounded.

Eight years of arguing with Reylo stans about how Kylo's trajectory was to show us the long fall of someone continually choosing the Dark even as his father (who he explicitly acknowledged that he still loved!) and other people in his life repeatedly offered him the same choice Luke gave to Vader in ROTJ.

Eight years of noting that the point of Kylo, for JJ Abrams, was that you can be raised with love, support, and stability and still CHOOSE to make bad choices and continue to do so even when offered alternatives.

Eight years of pointing out that Finn and Kylo were deliberate character foils in TFA! Eight years of saying that Finn was supposed to show that goodness can come from anywhere, even a stormtrooper raised as a child soldier with no one to turn to, while Kylo was supposed to show that evil can come from anywhere, even a beloved Rebel's child with a stable childhood with lots of support figures.

Eight years of trying to get through to them that Finn and Kylo were supposed to represent the two choices Rey had as the sequel trilogy's Skywalker: to follow Finn's choices (Luke's choices) and stay in the Light, or follow Ben's choices (Anakin's choices) and surrender to the Dark.

Eight years has led to this moment of Adam Driver casually going "evolving into Ben Solo…that was never part of it" and “Rian took it into a different direction” in an interview on a random Tuesday night. I feel the vindication in this Chili's tonight and it is SWEET

We see one final shot of Baylan, staring at a light in the distance and standing amidst giant, crumbling statues. The statues themselves are in disrepair, but they seem to be depicting the Mortis gods, a.k.a. the Ones — three ancient beings with deep connections to the Force. On the right, we can see a statue of the Son, who has aligned himself with the Dark Side. On the left, an almost destroyed statue of the Daughter, who represented the Light Side. And Baylan is seen standing on the outstretched hand of the Father, who found balance between the two sides of the Force.

Technically speaking Cal is the only, living, Jedi who was officially knighted. Yoda implied Luke was a Jedi, but he never knighted him. And Ahsoka and Ezra were Padawan’s who never officially finished there training.

I really like how when Reva asks "have I become him?" Obi-Wan answers "no, you have chosen not to" - like YES !! Thank you for making it so so clear that Anakin made a choice to do what he did

But the point is that you can STOP. When Anakin helped Sidious kill Mace, he then bought into the fallacy that he had no choice and could only keep going. Every time somebody offered him an out (Padmé, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka...) he deluded himself into thinking there was no other path for him as though he wasn't choosing to commit all those atrocities.

Reva rejected the fallacy and broke out of the Dark Side cycle, as Anakin eventually did, because she chose to stop. The point isn't that she's inherently better.

Gotta hand it to Ms Chow for how she does not ever insinuate that Obi-Wan was in any way responsible for Anakin’s fall. She even had Vader spell it out for everyone: “I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You did not kill Anakin Skywalker. I did.”

And again she pinned the blame where it’s due regarding Reva and the younglings. She makes Reva tell Obi-Wan (and the audience) about how they thought Anakin was there to save them and how they were betrayed in the most horrible way.

I am absolutely in love with how Reva and Vader are both antagonists and foils of each other. They both start out with an unhealthy obsession with hunting Obi-Wan down. But at the end you clearly see how Vader cannot see beyond his own rage while Reva, in the end, looks at herself and says “No, this isn’t who I want to be. I will not be what I most despise”. And you see how Obi-Wan kneels before her and treats her with kindness. And you can’t help but think that this is the gentleness he would have shown Vader too if he had been willing to let go of his hatred and rage.
