it's cool how in the 6 years since this tweet was written it's become significantly less useful not because anything has gotten better but because the majority of products on Amazon are now from fly-by-night brands called "ZZPORK" and "GLUM4PANT"

Watching any movie before 2000 reminds you that people in movies used to be hot but like in a normal way
There are ten trillion pictures of flowering trees to the point where they sometimes seem trite and overdone. But then you see a tree in full flower and go holy shit this rules and I've gotta show this to everyone so they can experience the same magic and wonder and there are ten trillion and one pictures of flowering trees

Late for an appointment this morning because my beautiful son child stole a wrapped and bagged bologna sandwich containing roughly 300% his maximum safe sodium intake out of the lunch box in my backpack while I was on the shitter and refused to spit it out
⬆️ Documented evidence of my sweet and perfect and beautiful firstborn son furiously defending his hard-won right to shit his brains out

many will attempt to "end" the hug after only five to ten seconds of holding you. crucially, this is where the claws come into play

Fascinating how what's considered feminine and what's considered masculine can change over time. The rebranding of being a horse girl into being a stereotypical feminine girly trait needs to be studied.
Look at classic children's novels. As recently as the 50s and early 60s, being obsessed with horses as a girl was depicted as strange and tomboyish, and the very concept of being obsessed with horses from early childhood and loving toy horses and desperately wanting your own horse being a "little girl thing" and not a "little boy thing" would send someone from the 1800s and earlier into a coma.
There's maybe a point to be made here somewhere about how when keeping and riding horses stopped being necessary to the functioning of society and became a more "frivolous" thing, it was rapidly rebranded as silly and girly and for women, but what do I know.
Not only did horses and their care stop being 'necessary for society' in certain areas of the world, horses also became militarily unnecessary.
Because automatic weapons, barbed wire, landmines, chemical weapons, and more accurate artillery were invented. Precursors already existed, but the advances made into military technology before and during WWI outmoded the use of cavalry for pretty much everything.
Limited military use cases for horses still remain, but in the past horses pretty much held the roles we give to tanks, APCs, trucks and light vehicles today. Or, the versions of those roles that existed without access to other technologies that enable modern logistics like refrigeration, real-time communication, timekeeping if you go back far enough.
Horses didn't go away overnight, and had been in decline for a while by the late 1800s. When firearms became portable and accurate enough to be wielded as the primary military weapon, a firing line could potentially shred cavalry. Then automatic weaponry allowed only a few operators to do that. By the 1910s it was pretty much over.
The reason I am saying all of this is that today, all of the tack, clothing, equipment, and practices attributed to the most widespread (read: post-colonial) equestrian styles are former military technology. I do not just mean 'english style' riding, 'western style' riding also is: just with more steps in between, from the cavalry use during the Spanish Reconquista (they kept the moorish influences, though!) that informed later use of horses by Conquistadors in Mexico, who brought cattle to Mexico, which necessitated cattle workers also learning equestrian skills, etc. Today, western-style riding has also been adopted by certain modern militaries as well, for the use cases that still call for horses. So there is no dodging the militarism there.
This is why horses used to be a 'boy thing' in many parts of the world. Today, horses being a 'girl thing' means that a lot of the equipment those girls & women are stereotyped using are deadass just formerly military equipment. When the use of short-range munitions becomes outmoded I suspect it will become a 'girl thing' to go to your bunker and lovingly fondle your collection of lockheed hellfire missiles.
it’s amazing how women are able to navigate crowded rooms without ever touching a palm to a man’s lower back
Intelligent alien species based on bugs but specifically those moths that don’t have mouths and only live for a week after they pupate. This species’ whole conscious life is actually in the larval phase; larvae are the ones considered people, larvae are the ones with conscious and complex brains who build society, and each instar of the larva is treated as a different phase of life. Larvae become emotionally and socially and cognitively mature without ever becoming sexually mature. When they pupate, they metamorphose into something different and strange and close to mindless, with no mouth and no digestive system, whose only instincts are to mate and then quickly die. Metamorphosis is treated, functionally, like a person’s death, and the imago phase is a kind of proto-afterlife of majestic flight and the continuation of the species. Birth and death inextricably intertwined. Sex is not something people do during their lives, it’s a thing that is done as an imago after you’ve passed on from your life but before you return to the soil in death. Resultant eggs are collected by family members to raise. I think this would be fun.
When I say women should have higher standards for how they're treated, this is exactly what I mean. At the first insult? Kick. Him. To. The. Curb.
i do think what gets ignored about carrie as a character is that she’s an incredibly easy target to bully; she’s a chubby, sheltered acne ridden teenage girl who wears frumpy grandma clothes and regurgitates the jesus freak shit her violently abusive mother tells her. she has violent thoughts about her classmates and is uncomfortable to be around. she’s far more interesting being a victim that’s somewhat uncomfortable to be in the head of than a tragic waif. she’s not a martyr, she’s a child and a child who’s been victimised her whole life shouldn’t have to be kind and angelic to be recognised as a victim. suffering teenage girls shouldn’t just be presented on screen as toned down glamorous thin ophelias, suffering teenage girls can be fat and poor and think violently. i do think we need to examine why culturally we need teenage girls to be beautiful and kind to valorise their suffering and treat it as bad
the replacement of websites with apps sounds so backwards when you actually describe it. like hmm you have to download an entire program onto your device each time you want access to a portal, where it takes up storage indefinitely. somebody should invent an app where you can "browse" any portal just by typing in its address... 🥴
we need to do something about that big rock outside the castle because enemy knights have figured out that if you charge up it at the right angle you can launch yourself onto the ramparts and start killing our archers
