There was nothing left back in that town for him. Nothing and no one. His sister didn’t need him, she had just needed to get rid of the guilt she had felt and she had done that. Jeremiah would keep in touch with her, he was not going to just ghost on her. Then there was Tatum but he knew that she would be just fine without him, perhaps even better considering that he was unappreciated. He hated that word – unappreciated always made him just go back to selfish people that always thought their way was the only way that someone could show that they were cared for. So when Callista proposed the trip, the option of never going back he didn’t know why he was thinking about it so much. It probably had something to do with the fact that he was barely realizing how much he needed her in his life, not only needed but wanted as well. It was not something that he took lightly. It even did manage to almost awaken whatever soul he was supposed to still have left. “You want to do that?” He asked because even through all the shit her family put her through she always did come back. Hell, he always came back to his family as well. Maybe this was it. Maybe it was time to stop doing the same cycle and expecting something different from the situation. He did have his brother running around and wanting his head served on a gold dish or silver – whatever the fuck his preference was – yet that was not in the top three reasons to deter him from making such a bold move. The move of actually living for himself, doing something he wanted and not hiding. “If you are then I am in. That would save the trouble of installing a GPS on you for sure. I would have to also say Morocco is going to be the first choice. I can’t do this bullshit anymore.” The confession felt light when it came out.
Did she want to do it? As the question dripped from Jeremiah’s lips, Callista pondered it. She hated this town, hated it more than any other place in the world yet it had always been her sandbox. A town where people knew her and her family for what they really were, a town that just kind of accepted the strange world they lived in. She had been born anew in this town before it was ever even a town, born anew in violence and blood. From there it had never ended. Her siblings would track her down, but maybe that just meant she had to run faster. It would have been a bleak prospect if she were alone--she had done this escape many times before--but maybe with Jer by her side she wouldn’t have a reason to keep coming back to the place where she was cursed for life. “You’d leave everyone? It wouldn’t be all fun and games, my siblings are going to hunt me until the ends of the earth for this.” She said, green eyes staring into blue. There she was again, giving him another out. Anyone else and she would have pressed the gas pedal but Jeremiah had a life here. She couldn’t tear him away from something that important. Selfish around anyone but him, that might have been her one fatal flaw. “This isn’t bullshit, this is your life. I can’t take that away. I fuck people’s lives up, almost as a profession. I won’t do that to you.”
