“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” -JK Rowling
A Utahn has died from rabies, the first death of its kind in the state since 1944.
"The bats would lick our fingers, almost like they could taste the saltiness of our fingers, but they never bit us.“
DON’T TOUCH BATS!

6 zoo myths that arent true
Most behaviors that you see keepers demonstrate at the zoo or aquarium are natural behaviors that the animals do in the wild. When the animals do them, the keepers give them a treat and pair it with a gesture or a word, so that they associate them, and eventually the word or gesture is enough to elicit the behavior because the animal knows that there’s a reward. But here’s the thing: most of those behaviors are encouraged because they help veterinarians and keepers do health checks.
Yeah, its cute when they nose boop the stick, but also keepers need to check their vision and depth perception and mobility. Sea lions are so cute when they wave! But vets and keepers need to check under those flippers to make sure that they’re healthy and that they don’t have any restrictions on their motion or cuts on their skin. Why do they ask animals to jump? Again, to make sure that they’re healthy, and also because its fun and animals LOVE to move around and jump and have fun, its mentally stimulating.
This is the most important thing I will ever reblog and anyone who is still ignorant enough to think zoos are awful can fuck off my blog. Zoos are necessary. If you think otherwise please unfollow me because I don’t want you here.
This is super important for people to see. I have worked at a zoo and I can not tell you how many times I’ve had to defend the zoo for the good they do. People need to learn that zoos are actually helping save endangered species.
Remember: Sea World is not a zoo and doesn’t really care about animals unless they can make a profit. Fuck Sea World.
Alternatively, Busch Gardens does care for their animals.
War will make corpses of us all.

As a former zookeeper we would hear this a lot. “If you don’t study hard you’ll end up cleaning poop for a living.” It’s the one time we’re allowed to go off on the visitors. I once heard my boss rant for five minutes at a lady, in front of her kids, about how he had a Master’s degree, how people literally worked there for free, and how dare she judge people without bothering to know anything about them. Later that day his boss came by and said, roughly, “She told us what happened. Thanks for not throwing anything this time.”
I want to hear more of this
I want to know what he threw at guests before.
Bless. Zookeepers are saints and we love them.
Please do not talk about a child’s weight in front of them, or tell them they need to go on a diet.
Talking about weight in front of children is associated with mental and physical health risks, and both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Canadian Pediatric Society recommend against all weight talk around children.
Starting an ED in a child doesn’t necessarily look like outright mocking a child’s weight- it can be mild comments like “Have you lost weight?” with an approving tone, telling your child they have to play a sport so they don’t “gain weight and grow up unhealthy”, or always commenting on a young girl’s “dainty” figure when you notice how little she naturally eats. Just cut weight talk out of your vocabulary around kids please.

I think this is one of the first times we see Eliot play a mark by acting like a not too bright country bumkin and i absolutely love it. He just opens up the big blue eyes, smiles bright and yes sir no sir three bags full sir until they write him off as not important and, more importantly, not dangerous.
Eliot is so good at playing dumb that the mark is guaranteed to underestimate him. No one has a clue of the kind of threat he poses until he unleashes. And then it’s too late.
Give me more hitters like this. I’m done with the looming hulking menacing muscle guy who starts cracking knuckles the moment a mark walks into the room. Give me the man who makes himself unassuming, who cons the mark by playing dumb (and mum) and who hides a brain like a razorblade behind a face as bright and shiny as an apple. Give me more hitters like Eliot Spencer.
Star Trek’s DeForest Kelley wanted to be a doctor in real life, but he couldn’t afford medical school. Later on, some of his proudest moments as an actor were the number of people who told him his portrayal of Dr. McCoy inspired them to become doctors. “You can win awards and that sort of thing, but to influence the youth of the country … is an award that is not handed out by the industry.” Source Source 2

Does anyone else have a favorite bit or highlight from an old episode?
PROTIP: When Alec Hardison says he didn’t do something because “that would be wrong,” that’s when you know he most definitely did it.
