grief is not a feeling, but a neighborhood.

What They Did Yesterday Afternoon
by Warsan Shire
they set my aunts house on fire i cried the way women on tv do folding at the middle like a five pound note. i called the boy who use to love me tried to âokayâ my voice i said hello he said warsan, whatâs wrong, whatâs happened? iâve been praying, and these are what my prayers look like; dear god i come from two countries one is thirsty the other is on fire both need water. later that night i held an atlas in my lap ran my fingers across the whole world and whispered where does it hurt? it answered everywhere everywhere everywhere.

I still love books. Nothing a computer can do can compare to a book. You canât really put a book on the Internet. Three companies have offered to put books by me on the Net, and I said, âIf you can make something that has a nice jacket, nice paper with that nice smell, then weâll talk.â All the computer can give you is a manuscript. People donât want to read manuscripts. They want to read books. Books smell good. They look good. You can press it to your bosom. You can carry it in your pocket.
Ray Bradbury (b. 22 August 1920)
I firmly believe that thereâs a ârightâ time to read a certain book. Itâs okay if youâre interested in a book and it sits on your shelf for years. Maybe it didnât call out to you when you wanted something to read because it was waiting for the right time to mean the most to you. Not saying this is always the case, but this has happened enough to recognize the magic.
