IN WHICH... Blackmailing a K-pop idol was never part of the plan. Neither was spending weeks hanging around his studio, arguing over sneakers, or accidentally becoming friends with all of his members. It was supposed to be simple: keep his secret, admire his sneaker collection, steal a tiny comeback spoiler, and leave.
Alas, Y/N finds herself caught between Martin and the secrets he refuses to share. As their friendship deepens, so do the cracks beneath the surface- late-night arguments, quieter confessions, and feelings that absolutely weren't part of the deal progressively mish-mash their bond. They might definitely just be in way over their heads...
â YALL I COOKED WITH THIS CHAPTER! I LIKE IT SO MUCH, YOU ARE SOOO GONNA LOVE IT! đđ
< PREVIOUS PART I NEXT PART â
She mustâve waited for about an hour before theyâd finally arrived. Sheâd played on her phone, still both disappointed in herself, and upset about Martin being so aggressive to her for whatever reason there existed.
Well, sheâd admit, she hadnât been much of a good one, when she sat on that table. Neither was she nice to him in that small alleyway, the week before.
But, seriously, didnât she have every right to?
Not really, sheâd admit. Sheâd been a real piece of shit.
Sheâd felt betrayed. Deeply compromised. Sheâd known Martin online as the ray of sunshine of his group, except now he smoked â did he? was it important? â and turned into the evilest snake when he was near Y/N.
To be honest, the vape itself wasnât even that big of a deal, she thought. Sheâd always been against it for some reason, maybe because of her dad, her mom, whatever. Sheâd always hated it, hated them. Technically speaking, sheâd been more of a bitch towards her parents than him, when she spit on Martin earlier, and last week. Seeing that vape in his hand wasnât that deep, but it was seeing her family at his place that upset her.
Because sheâd seen a lot of her acquaintances holding such things in their hands, putting them into their mouth, and suffering for life because of them. Maybe thatâs why sheâd fled.
She hadnât packed anything, except for a toothbrush, hair-rollers, and her a few pairs of her favorite sneakers. Sheâd closed her homeâs front door â was it? Her home? â while screaming at her parents to go fuck themselves for consuming those drugs, and how sheâd never take a step again in their house.
Maybe thatâs why she became this virulent, that night.
Still, Martin had been really aggressive. He had every reason to, for sheâd been pretty much of a crappy person to him, but hey, she was tired, traumatized, and had very much ran away from her home two days earlier.
Maybe she shouldnât have spoken this loud, and reacted this violently. Or maybe even played with his tendency to fan-serve, when he was just trying to do his job properly, although sheâd been wondering if he was ever exaggerating the thing. But that didnât give him the right to act this spiteful around her as well.
Now, the way heâd outburst on that table had also upset her. For someone who desperately wanted to avoid getting canceled, he surely made a mess of himself on occasions. Thatâs what she thought.
When the curtains of the waiting room finally opened, she was sat on the couch. She immediately stood up at the sight of a man in his thirties, who definitely wasnât the type to laugh too much.
âYour name, please ?â He asked, and his voice felt calmer, softer than what sheâd thought itâd sound like. Strangely enough, Y/N didnât even sense animosity from him whatsoever, while this man probably was a staff member, if not a secret Chinese spy, and sheâd practically altered his subordinateâs remaining aura an hour earlier.
Just when she was about to respond, the curtains opened again, and the sound of hands clapping and fans screaming overlapped the shrill noise of the curtain rod. Y/N almost audibly gasped when she recognized James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon and Keonho. Followed by Martin, ultimatelyâŚ
Her breath almost hitched. They were right in front of her. They were real. They were them.
âItâs her, yeah?â The manager thoroughly looked at Martin, waiting for a response.
âI guess so.â He shrugged, occasionally glancing towards Y/N.
Immediately, Y/N contented herself to bowing, pushing her upper body as low as she could, in a sign of salute to the prodigy CORTIS.
âAh! You donât have to bow! You donât have to bow!â James automatically responded, his two hands joining together in a namaste-shape.
âItâs an honor, really. I enjoy your music and style a lot.â She declared, her face still towards the ground, and her voice as solemn as she could, trying to hide her drowning admiration to not sound like a groupie. âI am so sorry for the trouble Iâve put you in today, and with Martin and the vape, really, it wasnât my intentionâ well, it wasâ but not anymoreââ
âYeah, I guess youâre here for that.â Keonho responded seriously.
âWait, youâve got great style, though.â Seonghyeon added without context, his voice a bit hesitant, perhaps due to the language barrier.
Well, she wasnât much of an absolute rocket in Korean either. She knew the basics, and a few sentences from kdramas, but it stopped there. Sheâd eventually have to learn it, though, considering how she didnât know how long her stay in Korea would last.
âAhh⌠No, no! You guys are so swagged, I canât compete!â She stood up again, the briefest awkward smile slipping up from her mouth.
She caught Martinâs eye for a second, and offered him a disgusted face, which he reluctantly gave back. God, how sheâd like him to just fuck off right now.
As opposed to his members, heâd decided to sit on a nearby couch next to his manager, and shut out. As in, heâs completely blanked, again.
This time, he perhaps just needed to sleep, Y/N thought. She knew that already, since sheâd seen multiple vlogs of the group where heâd doze off time to time, if not every single time.
âWhere are your shoes from, can I ask thatââ Juhoon asked with a shy smile.
âSorry, kiddo, Iâm just interrupting you real quick. Whatâs your name, please, kid?â The manager cut out, while putting his hand on Martinâs stiff shoulder, who immediately upped his eyes again. If this reaction was due to this physical contact or to know her name, she didnât know. Didnât care either, if youâd ask her.
âY/N. My name is Y/N.â
He nodded, then wrote something on a piece of paper, amongst lists of elements she didnât know the context nor constitution of.
âTheyâre Isabel Marant, no?â Keonho asked, with the biggest smile on earth, though she didnât really get why. âHehe.â
âAhhhh! KeurokunaâŚâ Seonghyeon muttered in Korean, hiding a laugh too. âIsabel Marant girl?â
âHajima.â Martin then stated in Korean too, though every word ever said was so basic now that she could understand most of it.
âWaitâŚâ James paused for a second, letting his mind travel to who knows. âGeuâŚâ He started, and his eyes briefly darted from Martinâs to yours while pointing at you with his finger. âIsabel Marant girl⌠Saram-I-ya ?â
What do they know that I donât? She thought.
Keonho and Seonghyeon suddenly burst out laughing, to the biggest confusion of Y/N, who definitely didnât get the inside joke. Well, no one asked her to.
âWait, whatâs with the Isabel Marant girl thing ?â Juhoon asked yet another question, in English, to Y/Nâs biggest surprise.
âStop, guys. Pleaseââ Martin interrupted, but we all know he was officiously, and obviously not the commander of his group.
âYou knowâŚâ James whispered, barely enough for Y/N to hear properly. âMartinseu⌠Kapee issneun geu⌠yeppeun yeoja.â
âAniâ Aniya! Hajima-al-la-go!â Martin stood up to stop James from speaking some more and muttered again, his face going visibly red.
Okay, that, she did understand.
Well, Iâm pretty, I guess. She concluded in her head, as a slight smile appeared on her face.
Well, not that she liked being called beautiful by Martin, obvi. But, hey, doesnât every eighteen -year-old teenager want to be called good-looking by an internationally known kpop idol?
âMartin, youâd better think to shut up after what you just did on stage, if you donât want another outburst.â The manager said, looking at my flushed face at the same time.
The young man muttered something in Korean, and sat on the couch again, next to his members.
He was the angriest heâd ever been. Sheâd provoked him, and heâd reacted on the spot without thinking. He despised her more than anyone else ever could, he thought. Now, he couldnât imagine the thousands of posts turning him into this ridiculous idol that he wasnât, this uncontrollable young man who couldnât deal with his emotions properly, because that bitch of a girl had played with his anger and dragged him to react.
Fact was, he knew. He always knew how to control his anger. Heâd already been upset, as everyone should, but heâd always been more of the defensive type. When the members would get upset, for whatever food theyâd eat, however long theyâd stay in the studio, or wherever theyâd go to shoot music videos and wouldnât like it, heâd get mad and defend his point of view. He was never the type to get angry first, because it wasnât him. Heâd just shut down, go completely silent, and isolate himself until the anger had cooled down.
Then why did his whole emotional system differ with Y/N? That, he wouldâve wanted to know. Because heâd made a mess of himself when she fairly wanted to apologize.
âOkay, so.â The manager started, and everyone in the room waited for his verdict. âFirst of all, Iâd like to say. Sorry on behalf of Martin for reacting this way, but you surely did provoke him, did you not?â
âYeah, itâd be cool if you just admitted the thing, because we really wanna keep good relations with our fans.â James replied, and bowed slowly, to invite his members to do the same.
At the sight of his four best friends bowing to the person he resented the most, Martin sighed even more.
âWhy are yâall acting like Iâm not here?â He asked, looking vulnerable and genuinely pitiful. âLook, I donât want problems. Iâm not like that. You know that, no ?â
âI know what I see, my Martin.â The manager said, in a low voice. âWeâll speak together later, kid. Just the two of us.â
At that. Martin closed his eyes. Of fear, of fatigue? Maybe both, Y/N thought.
âAnyway, Y/N.â The manager continued, this time addressing to the young woman. âFrom what I know, youâve seen Martin with a vape, yes?â
âYes, thatâs it.â I nodded.
âAnd you feel disrespected by him. For the vape, or because of his reaction?â
âDonât care about the vape. I apologized for this. He just shouldnât have walked around with a thing like this in the first place, since itâs obviously stupid as an idolâ and he shouldnât have been such a freaking hole in the butt that day, as well as today.â
âHey, come on, maybe not so aggressiveââ
âNah, Seonghyeon.â Keonho cut his friend out. âYou werenât there that night. I saw it, he was like a drunk jaguar or something. Kept insulting her. Well, you havenât been the nicest with him, Isabel. To me, he definitely reacted violently, but he was NOT the one who started it.â
âI know. Iâve apologized, and I deeply regret doing it, genuinely.â Y/N stated with sincerity. âLike, I thought about it for the whole week, and I was really starting to wonder what the fuck was wrong with me.â
âOh.â The manager replied, a bit overwhelmed, while looking at Martin who was terribly trying to make his ears go no-sound.
âBut, hey, just so you know, Isabel Marant.â Keonho started again, this time seeming very serious. âHe can be all insulting and stuff, couldâve said a lot of crappy things. But this vape wasnât his. Never had been.â
âThis is not the problem, here.â Y/N replied in a calm tone. âLook, I know itâs not his, I donât even care if itâs his. Be it, whatever. But a saesang or some paparazzi doesnât know, and a picture of him with this in his hand could genuinely ruin his career, and you guys know it. As Korean citizens, I mean.â
âSheâs right.â The manager nodded in approval. âWhyâd you carry something like that in your hand anyway?â He looked at Martin, who seemed very, very focused in the pursuit of ignoring this whole conversation.
âIt was just some empty vape you gave me when we were like, trainees.â Keonho responded at his friendsâ place, sensing the incapacity. âThought it looked coolâ and I wanted to pee, so I just gave it to him for when Iâd press the bamboo stick, you seeââ
âWhat the heck, Keonho?â Juhoon replied calmly. âThis is dumb.â
âYeah well, it happened anyway. I apologized for my behavior to Martin. I was disrespectful, and it wasnât my place to say such things. But as for today? I just didnât expect to be treated like literal garbage afterwards.â Y/N stated as she shrugged.
âWhat? Bro! Youâre acting as if you didnât provoke me during the fansign! God damnit!â Martin exclaimed, his eyes suddenly opened, seeming nothing but calm. âYou sure know how to act damn dumb when you wanna make yourself the nice guy, donât you?â
âMartin, thatâs enough! Iâm cool with you, so stop engraving your cause right now!â The manager declared with an authoritarian tone. âOkay, Y/N, I have a proposition for you.â
At that, every eye turned to him. Nobody knew what it was really about, only that it definitely was a way to stop Y/N and Martin from bickering again.
âWhat do you sayâ in exchange for your silenceâŚâ He started, and she still looked confused. âWhich is⌠You donât speak of this vape, nor do you mention Martinâs behaviorâŚâ
Wow. she thought. So it is that serious when it comes to idols. Didnât know their lives could get any worse.
âAnd weâll obviously find something to explain Martinâs⌠sudden reaction earlier. I donât know, a bug biting him or somethingâŚâ He continued, not very sure of himself either.
âWe give you free access to every CORTIS events? So like, concerts, tours, workshops, things like that? When youâre in Korea. How long are you staying in Korea? Youâre foreign, arenât you?â
Everyone in the room practically gasped in surprise.
âHold onâŚâ Juhoon whispered in chock.
âYah⌠For real, man?â Seonghyeon asked in disbelief.
âYouâd do that? I donât know how long Iâm staying, though. As long as I can, I guess.â Y/N then demanded, suddenly very aware of how much this meant.
âWell, Iâd do that if you donât say anything discrediting about my little Martin. But you have to promise, to vow, even, that you wonât say a thing. Otherwise, weâd just file you to trial, Iâm being totally honest.â He shrugged, both relaxed and slightly aggressive. âWe wouldnât like another scandal about him, you see. Heâs already hated enough, donât you think?â
Ah, that is for sure, he was hated. Over the past few months, heâd receive more death threats than compliments, been dissed and criticized by his own favorite artists, and accused of whatever appropriation people said he was doing.
âOkay, I wanna throw up.â He said, after realizing that he was utterly vulnerable in front of the person he despised the most.
âBut, look, I donât wanna disturb you. Itâs way too inconvenient for CORTISâ staff, isnât it?â
âWell, itâd even be more inconvenient if rumors about Martin acting the way he did were spread, or if weâd heard about some fan getting trialed to court because she didnât respect an artistâs privacy.â He replied, while patting Martinâs head with his right hand. âI wonât risk Martin being any more depressed than what he already is.â
Martin sighed at that, clearly uncomfortable after such a confession. The other members looked at him briefly, avoiding his gaze whenever heâd look in their direction.
âWhat! HyungâŚâ He screamed, practically on the verge of tears from all the anger. âYou think Iâm like a five year old kid?â
âI think youâve gone through enough. Thatâs it. You need to rest.â
âOkay, but when weâre at itâŚâ Juhoon suddenly turned to Y/N. âIf you get to see us regularly⌠You might as well show us your sneakers collection. You must have more than Isabel Marant, no?â
Was she that much of a fashionista, for Kim Juhoon to ask her such a thing?
âWait, really? Sure, if I can. But can I see your collections too, then? Because Martin had Helmut Langâs the other day and they were lit. I bet yours are also dripped up.â
âSure! Hell yeah, weâd love that!â James responded with a big smile.
âWhoâs we, exactly? I donât want to.â Martin said nonchalantly. âWhatever this⌠bonding⌠you guys are starting, I donât approve of it.â
âExcept youâre no one, Martin.â Keonho laughed. âGrow some authority and weâll see.â
âOkay, whatever. You kids do what you wanna do anyway. We just need to find a way to give you the access to the events.â The manager declared while thinking. âMartin, gimme your phone.â
The young man immediately responded to the command and gave his device to the manager, glancing at Y/N for the occasion. An annoying little smile was plastered on her face like paint, and he hated it. More than anyone would ever imagine. Her damn camo cap was still hanging on her head, slightly ajar, and he wished heâd ripped it open right on the spot.
âWhat are you doing, exactly?â He asked, looking at his manager suspiciously.
âIâm adding her in your contacts.â He announced like a bomb. âWhatâs your contact number, kid?â He then asked to Y/N.
âWaitââ she started.
âOkay, I did NOT sign for this!â Martin cut her off in disbelief. âThere is NO way this girlâs on my phone!â
âI donât want it either! Please, let it be another member, or you, since youâre the managerâŚâ She mumbled, acting as annoyed as Martin looked. âWhy canât it be you instead, huh?â
âBecause itâs Martinâs problem. Heâs gotta fix it. Itâs his deal now, isnât it, dongsaeng?â He explained, and, well, he was pretty right. âItâd be strict exchange of tickets and QR codes, though. You probably know idols arenât allowed to communicate about anything else.â
âPlease. Just please, hyung.â Martin practically begged. âPlease. I donât wanna speak to her.â
âMartin, itâs your problem, you fix it. Point blank.â
âYou two better get along too, if you want this deal to keep going.â James added, and he wasnât wrong either.
âWhatever, Iâll do it.â Y/N declared, trying to ease the situation. âItâs only about sending venues anyway. Itâs not like weâre gonna send each other death threats or something.â
She could at least cooperate for once, she thought.
âMartin. Jaebal.â The manager said, in Korean this time. âGibun sanghaehaji malgo, geunyang haeso.â
That, she did not understand.
After a minute of Martin thinking, the young man placed his hands on his eyes and started murmuring.
âOkay, okay. Iâll do it. But donât expect me to do more than the minimum.â
âMe neither.â She replied, and she looked surprised to approve of something he said for the first time.
And just like that, their numbers were exchanged in the span of a minute, and sheâd been added as âEisebal Marronâ. At that, she kind of smiled, both surprised that Martin still didnât know a world-wide famous brand, and amused by the fact he still didnât pronounce or spell it right. On her phone, sheâd just named him âMâ, for she thought his name was completely insignificant, as he probably was the last person sheâd want to text with.
âOkay, is it over now?â Martin then asked, once everything was settled. âI wanna work on music.â
âJust go in another room and take your laptop, I guess.â The manager replied.
âOkay. See ya, then.â He took a glance at Y/N and glared, before putting his hand on Seonghyeonâs shoulder and leaving.
Just like that, heâd disappeared from the room and left his gloomy attitude for another place.
âExcuse him. Heâs tired. Never acted like this with anybody else before.â Juhoon declared on behalf of his friend.
âI wasnât nice either.â Y/N briefly laughed.
âHeâll change, donât worry. Maybe he just didnât have his morning pee, something like that.â Keonho smirked with excitement.
âAnyway, I wanna see your sneakers collection.â James announced, sounding as energetic as a puppy.
âI wanna see yours! We could meet up before a performance or something. And likeâŚâ She hesitated for a moment, before finally asking. âSharingâ the shoes?â
At that, the four boys stared intently, with no words to come.
âOh wow, that sounded weird. Damn.â She laughed awkwardly, and the young men followed. âI mean, if yâall find one of my pairs cool, and thereâs one of yours that I really like, we could totally like, exchange shoes, if you know what I mean? Ugh, this sounds sus as fuck.â
âOh! Okay! Yeah! Totally! I was kinda confused at first, butâŚâ James exclaimed in surprise.
âMe⌠I want your⌠Isabel Marantâ Seonghyeon whispered, and the little group exchanged a few laughs, under the eyes of the manager.
âCan we do that, Sunbae?â Keonho asked to his manager.
âWell, anything that can make great connexion between Y/N and the group is good.â He declared, sounding serious and amused at the same time. âItâs better than spreading rumors on twitter, I guess. Be it, you could totally do it.â
âYAYYY!â Keonho exclaimed, to the biggest surprise of Y/N. âWait, wait, Isabel.â
âHaha! What, Keonho?â She laughed softly, endeared by this nickname heâd put on.
âWeâre gonna meet each other regularly from now on, right?â He asked, and she didnât really sense where this was going. She nodded as her eyes squinted, confused. âDoes that mean I can call you noona?â
âBro what the fuck.â Juhoon sighed, annoyed and amused at the same time.
âAhhhhh, HELL nah!â James shouted while he grimaced.
âYah, bro⌠Neo jinjja noonae munjega jom issne!â Seonghyeon muttered between two laughs at Keonho, though she, again, didnât understand a single thing.
âI mean, I donât care.â She simply replied. âJust donât do it if Martinâs there, if you donât want him to kill you.â
âExcept heâs never really aggressive towards us.â James stated.
âYeah.â The manager replied in approval. âDonât know whatâs got through him. Sorry again.â
âItâs okay, you guys are cool. Iâm a fan!â She smiled with admiration.
Everyone in the room smiled. Well, was it rather contentment or politeness, who knows. It was agreeable. Very much, even so.
âAnyway, Iâll head off now.â She finally proclaimed, with a gesture of the hand towards the curtains. âIâll see you soon, yeah?â
âWell, tomorrow, then ? If I remember correctly, weâre hosting a public concert in Hongdae tomorrow, nobody knows yet. To perform Motion.â James responded calmly.
âAhh! The new song. Its release was so unexpected. I really like it!â
âYes. Weâre tryna⌠Make people ignore the mess of the tour, kinda.â Juhoon muttered, a bit ashamed.
âWait, what for? Was it that bad? I thought the videos looked great.â She squinted her eyebrows in confusion. âWas it this dancing problem?â
âYeah, well. Weâve been pretty much accused of paying dancers to hype our concert up.â He revealed solemnly. âWhich isâ obviously not true, right.â
âAnd also, fans werenât that into it. Donât know why, actually. Weâve hyped them up as much as we could.â James kept going, seeming visibly disappointed. âThey just kept recording the whole stuff, but like, didnât dance and stuff. So now weâre kind of getting flamed on social media.â
âHonestly, staff shouldâve dealt with it better.â The manager surprisingly declared. âLike, weâve only got thirteen songs, we shouldâve thought of making covers and games instead of just singing every song five times.â
âAhh, right. That kinda sucks, guys. But hey, I bet a lot of people have fond memories of it.â She whispered, trying to sound as supportive as she could.
âYeahhh.â Keonho nodded. âAnd also, people on twitter are like⌠twisting Martinâs words in our liveâŚâ
âWhat are they saying?â Y/N asked.
âWell, mostly that heâs very pretentious, pretending to like⌠Create a new concert culture, by putting the phone down, basically.â Juhoon informed with a confused face.
âI mean, he is pretentious, though.â
âWell, kinda.â James replied with a grin. âBut still, it was out of context, and people are saying real shit about him now.â
âThatâs why another scandal with him is what Iâm trying to avoid. So please, just cooperate, will you?â The manager asked, with pleading eyes.
âYeah, yeah. Sure. Just donât expect me to be all goofy-laughy and all with him.â
At that, a silence settled again. It was rather comfortable, Y/Nâd say. Almost like she wasnât speaking to artists she deeply admired.
She hadnât known of all these polemics in CORTIS. In fact, she only knew of what people used to bash on them : how their style and music seemed to be a bit appropriating towards black culture. Which, in her opinion, wasnât completely false, but was demonized.
Sure, theyâd take a lot of inspiration from this culture, and she admired that. But theyâd always make it known that they were grateful and that they worked with people from the culture. Theyâd never ignore those credits or deny the influence this culture had on their music.
Well, she was surely wrong, she didnât know, and at the moment, she didnât really care.
Because she was more of the type to listen solely to the music of the artists sheâd like, rather than watching their videos or learning about their personalities. Not that she hated doing it, it just wasnât her priority when discovering a new artist, hence sheâd never really think about doing it.
âAnyway, Iâm off.â She then notified. âFor good, this time.â
The five people laughed at that, and started waving at her as she walked towards the curtains.
âPleasure to meet you.â James smiled.
âSee you tomorrow, I guess?â She asked.
âUgh. Gotta get used to this.â Seonghyeon sighed.
âSee you tomorrow.â Juhoon and the manager said at the same time.
In just ten seconds, she was gone too. And as soon as she was out of sight, the manager let out the biggest sigh heâd ever been holding. He practically pushed his shoes deep into the soil, as he prepared himself for what heâd been prepared to speak about for the past ten minutes.
âOkay. Boys. We are absolutely not ending this conversation. We have a SERIOUS problem.â He announced, and the four teenagers turned their head to him, looking utterly confused.
âWhatâs wrong, sunbae?â Keonho whispered, deeply perplexed. âShe seemed just fine to me.â
âThatâs not it. We need her to BEFRIEND Martin. As soon as possible.â
âWhat for?â James asked.
âBecause there is no way Martin keeps acting like this around her. This is BAD. For his reputation. For the group.â
âRight, but Martin would never approve of it.â Seonghyeon claimed between several reflections.
âNot if heâs forced to approach her.â The manager said with certainty.
âWhat are you thinking?â Juhoon demanded.
âWe need them to spend time together. Because at this race, theyâll hate each other to the point where sheâll leak what he did or whatever happened with the vape and her. And heâll have no choice but to admit it.â He announced, utterly persuaded of his idea. âAnd we donât want this for the group. He could be fired. Such a scandal is way too big for HYBE not to try anything tricky.â
âOkay. Yeah, I get it.â James nodded as he thought.
âThen, what do we plan?â Seonghyeon immediately asked.
âIâd say, we might as well just invite her to his studio, or something. Tell her we give her a spoiler for the third EP.â
âWait, are you sure you wanna do such a thing? Sheâs a coer after all. She could leak it as well.â
âYeah, isnât a SPOILER a bit too much?â
âI donât think spoiling herâs the best ideaâŚâ Seonghyeon muttered at his turn.
âExcept she made a deal with us. Anything she does that is related to us is secret from now on, or weâd put her to trial. And it could actually bring them together, since heâs always in his studio and he made most of the songs.â
âRight.â Seonghyeon nodded.
âWait, but, do you think itâs realistic though? Thereâs a possibility that she ends up not wanting to attend our shows anymore, and then nothing prevents her from leaking anything.â James claimed ultimately.
âShe wonât do it. Youâve seen her, no? And I trust Martin, I know heâll deal with it properly if he knows how to⌠interact with her normally at some point.â The manager quickly reacted pragmatically. âWe just need them to be alone. Just the two of them. And we let them bond. Hence, we make her go to the studio and give her spoilers.â
A silence came after that, probably to let thoughts arrange themselves in everyoneâs head.
What exactly could they possibly invent, as a ruse to attract the two of them in their studio? Would Martin really approve it, or would they have to force him into that room?
âOkay, but what if it becomes more?â James suddenly declared.
âWhat do you mean, more?â Keonho asked.
âCâmon. Donât tell me you didnât notice the way he was looking at her.â
âOh.â They all said in unison, after that realization.
âAnd he was talking about her for a week after he met her in that cafe. Saying how beautiful she looked and shit.â He turned to his manager. âHyung, donât tell me you didnât see it coming. He was all over about this damn Isabel Marant girl.â
âThinking of it, itâs also weird that heâs this aggressive with her.â Juhoon added. âHeâs gotta hide something, or maybe he just doesnât know how to deal with this attraction or something.â
âItâs just obvious. I knew it from the start. You just gotta look at how he canât even stop himself from looking at her, bro.â James continued. âSunbae, you seriously didnât see it too?â
âWell, I did.â He looked briefly at the ceiling above him. âBut Iâm thinking it wouldnât be bad for Martin to have someone. I mean, Iâm just saying, Iâm not completely against it.
âBut doesnât HYBE forbid dating?â
âWell, officiously yes. Not on the paper though. Idols just have to stay secret.â
âI didnât know that.â
âYeah, well. Itâs mostly to prevent idols from dating. Itâs thanks to these beliefs and rumors that they donât.â
âAnd besides, I really, really want my Martin to be better. Heâs going through a lot these days.â
âHm.â James contended to murmure.
âIf they become more, itâs not the best scenario, but heâd be happy. If they stick to just being friends, and I hope they will become friends, then itâs perfect. Heâd be stable.â
âWell then, okay!â Keonho exclaimed. âLetâs just bring her to the studio tomorrow! After the performance.â
âSure. Letâs do that. Thereâs an empty place in the van anyway.â Seonghyeon approved.
Operation âUNhateâ it was, then.
