Audrey had always had an odd fascination with the fifties and sixties so naturally the event had feed into her obsession. “ It’s great isn’t it? ” she asked wistfully. “ Elvis was just the first that came to mind, anyone from the fifties would be great really. “ she replied sheepishly. 

“He does often become the figurehead of the time, so I don’t blame you for thinking of him first. I personally don’t know many from the time despite my age,” he joked with a laugh. “Or, we could hang out with some cool people who are in their fifties, like Robert Downey Jr. and Colin Firth.”

Bill almost felt a twinge of guilt inside of himself due to the fact he couldn’t have been more helpful. Though he wouldn’t deny the offer of sharing a cup of tea together, especially if it might ease the man’s nerves a bit. He smiled softly before nodding and taking a seat in the empty chair across from him, placing his things upon the table. “I understand your frustration. I could probably use an assistant of my own.” He chuckled softly. “If I wasn’t so bogged down with my internship and the novel I’m trying to write, I would have definitely applied. Though, I have a few friends who might be able to fill the position. I could forward your information to them?”

Richard was pleased to watch the other settle down, already feeling a bit better about the oncoming distraction. “I wouldn’t say no to any possible help with finding an assistant. Though, I’m a bit curious about this novel? May I ask the subject?” He inquired, pushing his things to the side and readying himself to give the other his full attention. “I wish I had the patience and skill to write. But, with my injury, I’ve barely the mind to speak complete sentences let alone write them down,” he joked.

As soon as Audrey had heard about a fifties themed Soc hop she immediately knew she couldn’t miss her opportunity to attend. The blonde grinned from ear to ear as she glanced around at everyone in their vintage outfits, feeling oddly in her element, loving all things vintage. “ Is it just me or do you just love this whole idea? “ the blonde gushed. “ Makes me wanna grab a strawberry milkshake and listen to some Elvis. “ she giggled out. 

Richard chuckled, nodding in agreement. “Oh, it’s not just you. This is lovely -- reminds me of those school dances that are always happening. But, it actually gives us adults an opportunity to join in on the fun too,” he teased. “Unfortunately, I’d take the milkshake without Elvis. I’m not too big of a fan of his,” he said, playfully cringing. “Call me boring or un-American. Both would be true.”

Simon had decided to stop by the coffee shop earlier than usual to pick up lattes for Leah and himself considering the fact she had some dress shopping to do with her mother today. He knew trying on new clothes was always a chore for his best friend and figured iced coffee was a perfect way to cheer someone up. He was checking his gmail account when he heard an unexpected voice. He lifted his gaze to look up at the older male standing before him. “Oh um… you actually asked the right person. My mom is actually a psychologist. I could maybe give you her business card? She’s always asking me to hand them out to my friends but I don’t think she realizes how awkward that would be.” He laughed before beginning to rummage through his backpack. Offering out the card once he had found it. “She’s always accepting new patients.”

Richard hadn’t expected an outright offer of business when he asked, laughing slightly at the suddenness. “Oh, well this is rather convenient. It may just be my lucky day after all,” he mused as he took the card from the other. “It is a bit weird to ask your son to give out her business cards to his friends. Does she expect they might need them? I’m concerned,” he teased lightly. “I’ll be sure to let her know that you sent me in her direction.” He gave a sigh. “It must be hard to have a psychologist for a mother. She doesn’t try to psycho-analyze you, does she?” He meant it as a joke, but he also felt like it would be difficult for a parent to use psychological skills to understand their child.

A small snort like noise escaped Pierce as he took a seat down at the table, thoroughly amused by the mix-up he had found himself in. “A silly username, huh? But then again there’s a lot of interesting men in this town.” That was a definite understatement. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Richard. Unfortunately, my name isn’t as cool as strappingyoungman. I’m just Pierce.” He chuckled softly before tilting his head to the side slightly. Explaining Grindr to someone was definitely going to be a treat. He wet his lips and let out a small humming noise, “I mean… I suppose you could call it a dating site. It’s an app on your phone that links you to gay men in your area that are most likely looking for sex. But, I don’t let any man hook up with me on the first date. Not even one as handsome as you.” He had no shame in confessing such things to someone who was nearly a stranger. 

“Pierce is a finer name than strappingyoungman,” he affirmed. Though, the news about what Grindr was had him surprised. “Gay men looking for sex? Well, I’m sure many find that useful. But, it’s good to know that you have some reservations when it comes to the first date. I personally wouldn’t want to jump into bed with someone I don’t know too well. You never know if they’re some sort of criminal or might have something. I’m not here to be pessimistic, but you can’t help but be cautious. However, I’m sure you get plenty of men who far surpass my looks. At least, I hope so or everyone in this town has very mediocre tastes.”

Evan had stopped off at the local cafe on the way to school, grabbing himself a chai latte and a violet drink for his girlfriend. He was standing in line awaiting his drink when he heard a voice address him, looking around for a moment to make sure the man was speaking to him. Seems like he picked the right person to ask, it was almost ironic. He shrugged his shoulders slightly, “I dunno, I’m currently seeing this therapist and it’s… something.” His teeth sunk into his bottom lip. This was the first time he was talking about this to anyone besides his mother. “He makes me write these letters to myself and supposedly they’ll help. I’m not sure if that’s what you consider high qualifications or not.” He chuckled awkwardly.

Richard was actually surprised that he managed to ask someone who was seeing someone. It was a little comforting and he felt as if he could trust the other’s word. “Letters? Well, I don’t suppose he would try the same with me, would he?” He said, meaning it as a joke but then realizing that it might offend the other. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that letters aren’t good, but I’m not sure how letters would help me. But, that’s why he’s the expert and not me. I should probably schedule a meeting. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to,” he admitted. “I’m sorry for taking up your time. I’d offer to pay for you.”

Elle had been minding her own business, sipping on her grande strawberry frappe as usual when she was addressed by the stranger. She wasn’t quite prepared for the question however. “ Oh wow.. well I know this girl who was in my  Sorority that was a psych major, but that was before she ran off with her deadbeat boyfriend…So i’m not sure if she’s practicing or not “ she thought aloud. “ I guess that wasn’t much help was it? “ she added, biting on her lip.  

Richard laughed, shaking his head. “It was an attempt -- which I appreciate. But, I’m not too sure she would quite interested in assisting me if she was more inversted in her boyfriend,” he teased. “Thank you, though. I’m sure many others would say ‘I don’t know, you figure it out.’ Which, is something I should be doing, but I just feel strange about this guy. You know what, who needs therapy? Not I, surely,” he said playfully dramatic as he closed his computer. “Sorry to be a bother. Perhaps I could buy your next beverage as a thank you.”

A sigh escaped the man, a frustrated hand rubbing at his face. He’d been looking through some information on his computer and it wasn’t at all pleasing him. He looked over at the person at the table nearby, conflicted with himself whether or not he should ask the other a rather personal question. “Excuse me,” he finally spoke up. “Do you know of any reputable therapists or psychologists or something like that nearby? I’ve found this one fellow with high qualifications, but I’m not sure if these reviews are legitimate or not,” he said, tentative about elaborating on his need to see someone like the one he was speaking of.

Natasha waved her hand in a dismissive manner, a reassuring smile forming upon her lips. “You don’t have to apologize at all. This is rather comfortable and I feel like if we’re going to be working together we should be able to talk to each other in a relaxed atmosphere.” She folded her hands in her lap as she listened to the man’s needs, nodding in an attentive manner. Though she was silently thankful to hear that no one else had applied for the position, trying to tell herself not to worry too much about her credentials. Her teeth sank into her bottom lip, “I’m not looking for a job that is brag-worthy, I’m looking for something that feels rewarding and I enjoy doing. Therefore, I think this job might be perfect for me. I’m extremely good at scheduling things, I actually worked as a party planner for a bit so organization and timeliness are extremely important to me.”

Richard smiled easily, nodding with her statement. “I agree. I mean, we’ll have to be comfortable with each other at one point.” He was relieved that Natasha wasn’t looking for something extraordinary. He didn’t want to sell the position short considering he did need to make it appealing enough for someone to want to have it, but he didn’t want to disappoint anyone either. “That’s wonderful. Well, you can think of it just like that. You’ll be my party planner, and all my parties are boring meetings and shipments,” he joked, laughing at himself. “I’m sorry, I’m not that funny but I definitely think I am. Listen, I think you’re perfect already and I can tell how genuine you are just from our little talk here. What if I offered your the position right here. Would you accept? I know you may need some time to think it over, but it’s pretty much yours.”

Pierce was quick to turn toward the man as he dressed him, immediately looking him over as if to access him. Though the moment the other continued to speak his shoulders fell slightly and his expression took on a more neutral one. “It seems like we’ve both mistaken each other for different people.” He chuckled. “I haven’t applied for any position and you’re apparently not ‘poshdaddy’ from Grindr. I’m surprised honestly, you look like most of my clients – I mean… dates.” His teeth sunk into his bottom lip. “Mind if I keep you company until whoever you’re really looking for shows up?”

Richard’s brows furrowed together slightly out of confusion. “Poshdaddy?” He repeated, not sure that he heard correctly and not sure if he wanted to know the full story of this Grindr and these clients. He was a little worried that he was being lumped with someone named poshdaddy. “Sure, I don’t see why not,” he said as he caught up with the question, inviting the other to sit down. “Well, to avoid confusion, my name is not poshdaddy but Richard. I hope you aren’t going by a strange name like strappingyoungman, are you?” It was meant as a joke, and a genuine hope. “Is Grindr a sort of online dating site? Is that why you don’t use his legal name?”

The bills were piling up, and Haruhi knew her dad was doing what he could to help her out, but it wasn’t fair for her to rely on him for everything. She had gotten the scholarship needed to pay her entire way through school, she could handle this as well. “Yes that would be me.” She said, relieved to figure out where she was supposed to be. “Haruhi Fujioka.” She offered, reaching her hand out and shaking his. This wasn’t her first job interview, and though she was still working on balancing out rigid and professional she knew she could come off put together. “I couldn’t remember if I had already sent you a copy of my resume already, so I brought another just in case.” Haruhi said, offering the paper out.

Richard easily smiled as he took the other’s hand in a gentle shake before motioning her to take a seat with him. “Splendid. I was really worry that I was looking like an idiot, which I’m sure is a great impression of me,” he joked, sitting down at the small table. He had a few papers of his own, but gladly took the offered paper. “Thank you, Haruhi. As you know, I’m Richard Crewe. I’m not looking for anything too specific like a master at thermodynamics or someone who can read and speak in ten languages. I just need someone who can generally help. Much like a babysitter, but for professionalism's sake we’re going to call it an assistant. I see that you’re going to school, so I’m a little worried I may be giving you too much to do.” He didn’t doubt the other’s capabilities, but he would fel guilty for adding to the girl’s stress and diminished social life.

The cafe always seemed to be the one place that Bill had the most success in writing, especially when he couldn’t be distracted there by the presence of his boyfriend. He was on his way to his usual table when he was suddenly stopped by a man, a sheepish smile appearing on his lips. “S-Sorry, I think you might have me mistaken with someone else.” He shifted his Macbook that he was carrying in his arms as he glanced around the cafe. No one else seemed to be there beside them and the staff. “Not to come off as nosey considering I’m not the one who expressed interest in the p-position but, what are you hiring for?”

Embarrassment seeped into Richard’s skin as he realized his mistake, giving an apologetic shake of his head. “No, you’re not nosy. I’m sorry for the mistake. It’s for an assistant, or a secretary. Just anything or anyone that can assist me really. I’ve gotten to be quite a mess and I’ll be in big trouble if I don’t get help,” he admitted with an exasperated sigh. He checked his watch, running a hand through his hair. “And it looks like that help isn’t coming. Mind if we share a cup? I think I need a bit of company to feel a little less discouraged.”

Natasha was sort of wandering aimlessly through the small coffee shop, really looking for a face she didn’t recognize. That would be the man she was looking for – without a doubt. When she heard a voice suddenly address her, she turned and was met by someone she hadn’t seen before. Her shoulders relaxed and a smile eased its way onto her lips as she offered her free hand out to him, “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am indeed the person applying, my name’s Natasha by the way.” Even though she had stated that in her email, she wanted to be clear that there were no mistaken identities here. “I… uh, may I sit?” She gestured nervously over to the open seat, clutching a pink colored folder in her opposite hand.  

Richard let out a sigh of relief as the girl’s identity was confirmed, nodding quickly at the chair meant for her. “It’s wonderful to meet you, Natasha. I apologize again for how unconventional this appears. I’d rather not interview you or anyone in an intimidation office,” he explained, taking a seat himself. “Honestly, you were the only one to apply, so I’m not sure you have much to worry about in terms of competition,” he joked. He flipped through a few papers he had sitting on the table, but he didn’t really look at them. “In all actuality, I need someone much like a secretary. I know this is probably not the most upstanding job out there or what you’re looking for, but I’m in desperate need. I’ve had this... problem since the end of my service. I’ve been far more frazzled and need someone there to help me keep track of things.”

“I’m sorry,” he said, standing from his seat at a small table in the quiet cafe. It was a lovely place, perfect for an interview. “Are you the one applying for the position? It completely escaped me to mention what I looked like, where I would sit, or any other indication that just might help you find your possibly future employer,” he said with a laugh before holding his hand out to shake the other’s. In all actuality, he wasn’t sure this was the right person for him either. He was just hoping it was, or maybe he’d just accidentally roped in a stranger into his mistake.

Desarae wasn’t as startled as she was annoyed. She didn’t see what had gotten this guy so worked up that he was slamming doors and making a scene. “ No, but could you chill the fuck out for a second? “ she asked with a tiny scoff. “ What’s your problem anyway, huh? “ she questioned, quiet boldly in fact. 

Richard was taken aback by the other’s sudden foul language. It was truly an accident, so there was no reason to be so angry. “I’m sorry. It wasn’t on purpose, I promise. It’s just loud noises, really. They can be rather... overwhelming. Again, my apologies. Though, you didn’t have to be so angry about it,” he said, laughing awkwardly to show he meant no offense.

Richard had always been frustrated with his memory loss -- always would be until everything had come back to him. And, yes, he’d gotten most everything back, but there were still holes and questions. He’d come back to the States to rest mentally and take a break from business. But, he did find it hard to completely destress, a door nearby slamming a bit too loud causing him to jump and give a small shout. “Damn-- sorry. I didn’t startle you, did I? I’m afraid I got rather startles myself,” he said, trying to laugh it off. But, his heart was hammering and he was reminded that his doctor suggested he kept out of loud environments.
