Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of economy Phoenix Drop could possibly have? Iām leaning on Phoenix Drop being mainly a farming village, selling crops like corn, wheat, olives, and tomatoes (partly because Iām basing the town on medieval Italy). Perhaps it could also be a mining village as well, because of the mine in the town + Corey whoās a miner. The village could specialize in precious metals like silver and gold, for instance.
If I had to choose a favorite Laurence moment from season one it would have to be this one. In my opinion itās one of the most emotional moments in MCD. period.
Having Laurence, who has been struggling with the thrall and the loss of who he was pre-nether, confront another shadow knight in the wild, one that has seemingly kept their life and their love intact despite the horrific changes made to their body and their spirit, another shadow knight that is accepted and protected by their partner, who clearly loves them despite who they are now and what theyāve done. It must have given him hope, seeing them, and seeing a future he hadnāt considered, a future where maybe love would be enough to save him.
In my mind, this is the moment that gave him the resolve to fully and completely pledge himself to aphmau. To do his best to push the thrall to edges of his mind and let aphmau be the beacon that led him through the darkness. If this man could love his wife enough to save her, then maybe the love he has for aphmau would be enough to save himā¦

i like Garrnet a LOT!!! she is very fun for me to draw hehee.. and this isnt the first time ive drawn her. hehr. youll see why eventually, do not fret.. i love drawing Garroth with curls, so of course i love drawing Garrnet. with BIGGER, LONGER CURLS!!! BECAUSE YES!!!!!! LET HER BE PRETTY AND WILD AND FUZZY AND FREE GRAH!!!
i already like the face shape i gave Garf, so all i had to do was translate those features into something more femme, while still keeping it all very masculine. to sum up a lot of design decisions i made; i think being conventionally unconventional makes some characters i draw more interesting. i need to lean into it more methinks..
some of the design changes between my Garrnet and Garroth will be pretty obvious at first glance. like for instance, Garrnet has a LOT. of GORGEOUS CURLY hair. and Garf has short but still poofy and frizzy hair. Garrnet's eyebrows are still cute and big, but hers have less volume in comparison to Garroth. i just thought it would be a neat way to further differentiate the two!! they both have the same nose shape because i think the bumpy nose is beautiful and no one can take that from me... Garrnet's jaw is also more defined than Garroth's!! this is because she's a lot more muscular in comparison to my interpretation of Garf!! i imagine he gained muscle and fat due to his circumstances, meanwhile Garrnet put more pressure on herself to be physically strong and to avoid a lot of wealthy feminine traits, (if you were a plump woman from ((im pretty sure)) before the 16-1400's, it was a sign of status and how well fed you were. it was a way to flaunt ones wealth in some cities).
Garroth's nose-scar has gotten longer in some of my recent artworks, and starts from the top of his left eyebrow and goes down and along the right side of his nose. in comparison, Garrnet's nose-scar starts under her right eye and slashes up right below her left eye. this is because i imagine they got their scars in entirely differeny ways. Garroth got his accidentally at guard training (Garte refused to lay a hand on him), and Garrnet recieved hers from her mother (genderswapped Garte š¦), possibly with a jockey whip or some sort of leather strap. while she as the first daughter certainly wasnt expendable by any means, i think "Garte" injuring Garrnet out of frustration after she discovered Vylad/Vanessa's whole existence. oh that conflict and drama would be spicy actually.. fic ideas fic ideas.. ahem, anywizzle, i found this interesting to mention because the circumstances and symbolism behind both Garroth's and Garrnet's scars mean so much to how i would portray both of their characters in any potential MCD related sense. Garroth's is tied to him breaking away from his family and what that means for him as the heir to a lordship and as a runaway. meanwhile Garrnet's is tied to her family turning on her and how she moves forward with her identity because of her experiences. sure hope that detail doesnt make anyone else think too deeply about this... its already too late for me..
im still learning quite a few things about drawing armour!! i didnt want to do anything too posh nor complicated for Garrnet though, so the design overall is very simplified. ive realised over time that i actually enjoy having cartoonishly simple detail. a side affect of me not learning how to colour until a few years ago lol.. i also need to look up the right era and nations for some of my current and future armour designs too. while i personally have no idea the name of the helmet type i have inferred she wears, the neckpiece she has is designed to connect to her helmet. which means Garrnet gets to wear a very long and pointy-nosed helm hehe
overall. i love Garrnet. i love genderswapping characters and Thinking about how that changes and affects them in a similar story and setting... cultural context and everything about it.. ough so delicious.. do not fret my lovelies, you will be getting some genderbent Aphmau and Laurance too.. Adrien and Lauran will become very real.. AND!!! YOU'LL GET YAPPING ABOUT THEM TOO HOPEFULLY VERY LIKELY!! MUAHAHAHA!!

for those lovely oomfies who have been wondering "where did kraycee's irregular but potentially beloved art posts go??" the answer is... i got sick š¢ lost a lotta motivation due to being sick + losing a lotta time for art. i have still Drawn Stuff do not fret.. just havent found the time to post/i have been very anxious about posting.. just regular boring stuff like that. my laptop is also Fucked Up atm and is not working as promised, nor according to plan.. so a lotta stuff has been paused for me because of said issues. (cant even complete my schoolwork ahahahahahahhahhahahahaaha..) we are getting there!!!! it is taking a While though.. mental health issues and illness do not go hand in hand sigh..

Idk if this was intentional or not by Jess, but one of my favorite things about mcd is the fact that Garroth, Laurance and Aphmauās identities are explored and questioned in each season.
In season one, Garrothās true identity is revealed, heās the son of the lord of Okhasis and escaped his political marriage with Nicole. This result in him struggling with the two dilemmas heās faced with: become the heir to Okhasis and live a life he would hate? or remain as the head guard of Phoenix drop and risk his friendās lives? Be an heir or a guard?
In season two, we delve deeper into Lauranceās struggles as a shadowknight. Heās slowly losing his humanity and becoming increasingly mentally-unstable. This conflict with himself leads him to question his identity and who he truly is + he also starts distancing himself from his loved ones for their protection.
In season three, we come across a dilemma Aphmau has been facing since season two, her identity as lady Irene. We can see her struggle particularly when people start to put her on this kind of pedestal and reducing her to just Irene and ignoring her as Aphmau. Which leads to her trying to separate herself from Irene.
I know a lot of people change Lauranceās name to Laurence instead, but I always like taking things from the canon and making them reasonable.
Everybody knows that Laurance was an orphan, likely not knowing how to read or write. Thatās why I always like to headcanon that he knew his name was Laurance, but he didnāt know exactly how to write it. However, when he started learning, he wrote it as Laurance and it just stuck. He likely knows now, but has grown attached to the way his name is written.
maybe my memory is failing me, but has there ever been a confirmed way for shadow knights to die? you know, besides being absorbed by zenix or something
you know what i think kids/teen books do 'fantasy romance/fantasy books' way better than any of the adult fantasy books booktok raves about. i try and read some of them and 90 percent of the time its just smut and abusive relationships disguised as 'dark romance'. then i read books like Keeper Of The Lost Cities, The School for Good and Evil, Percy Jackson, Land of Stories, the Nevermoor series, that kind of thing, and they are all actually so amazing because they have fleshed out characters with flaws and an engaging plotline instead of just badly written romance. and when they do have romance it's well written and about the people rather than the tropes.
