Toy boxes… a cruel joke on parents who actually believed the toys would fit in just one.😁⁣  ⁣ Not sure if you’re like me, but I sometimes dream that Toy Story is actually true and all my children’s toys will one day wake up and leave on their own. With Bubs’ birthday and Christmas around the corner I am feeling a little overwhelmed at what to do with all the plastic I have in the house. ⁣  ⁣ I have purged, thrown out, and given away so many toys but it seems as if there is a never-ending supply that keeps on coming in. Stuffies are my nightmare and I think my kids have internal radar signaling them when I try and get rid of them. Having lots of grandparents, aunts and uncles, means a lot of gifts are toys.  ⁣  ⁣ This year, though, we want to take a stance and say “no more toys!” We are trying to think of some cool alternative options to gift-giving. When you’re in the right place at the right time.🍀🍀🍀⁣  ⁣ We happened to visit this beautiful little town in Italy on a whim to taste the famous chocolate from that region. When we arrived, there was an open air market and lovely people selling some beautiful antiques. After having lunch, we began walking around when all of a sudden all these gorgeous cars started pulling into the main square. 🚗🚗🚗⁣  ⁣ Now, I’m going to be honest. Usually when cars start driving in the piazza, I turn the other way. I’m always very cautious with the kids, but after a very scary situation in Florence involving an older gentleman, his fiat, and his poor eyesight, I was even more vigilant. ⁣  ⁣ But this was different. It was a Saturday afternoon and all these people brought their very cool (and very expensive) cars for the people to enjoy. Bubs had an absolute blast and loved looking at all the different models. Where was your favourite adventure? ⁣  ⁣ I have to admit that one of my favorite places in the world is Australia. I had the privilege to live there for a year and was able to visit most of the country. I’ll admit that I was so nervous when I arrived as I had never left my house for more than 2 weeks and wasn’t what to expect. What I can say is that Australia is a place that goes beyond your expectations. ⁣  ⁣ There is a reason why so many people visit Australia. It is like a dream for travellers. You have big bustling cities, amazing wildlife, beautiful landscapes, and the most wonderful people. You can’t help but have a smile on your face while you are there. Have you captured all their "firsts"? ⁣ ⁣ This is their reaction to their first train ride. Can you tell how they really felt? 😅 I don't think baby girl had too much fun since there were so many people, but Bubs did enjoy it quite a bit - especially since he had his fav Dino with him 🦖 (side note: baby girl's knees 🥰😍)⁣ ⁣ It's so amazing to have all these moments captured. Praying for sunny and clear days ahead. ⁣☀️  ⁣ It’s getting really dark, really early and it’s making me tired! I’m very much a morning person - give me sunshine, birds, even a little rain, and I’m happy. Waking up and it still looking like it's the middle of the night makes me want to go back to sleep.⁣  ⁣ So far, it’s been the coffee saving me from the brain fog, but I need other ideas. I’ve changed the bulbs to some really bright ones, but it’s not really doing the job. Jack-o’-lanters ready! Who else is pumped for Halloween?⁣  ⁣🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 The kids are so excited for Halloween this year. We’ve got their costumes ready and have been doing lots of themed crafts and activities these weeks. I don’t know if it's the candy or the costumes, but the kids find this time of year so exciting and I’ve been trying to think of ways that they can still participate while still physically distancing. ⁣  ⁣ One option is for us to stay at home and “trick-or-treat” at every door in the house. Having grandparents and aunts/uncles helping, the kids can knock on each door and get some tasty treats. We can do some fun kids games at home like bobbing for apples, a mummy sack race, a Halloween scavenger hunt, and bingo which will keep the kids busy and in the Halloween mood. If you never take a shot, how will you ever win?🎱⁣ ⁣ Playing a mini-pool game left Bubs excited and a bit frustrated. There was a lot of new things for him to learn - how to hold the cue stick, which ball to hit, moving around the table - it was a bit overwhelming. At one point he wanted to give up and not finish the game. ⁣ ⁣ I sometimes feel (and do) the same thing. Sometimes life gets really hard. With work, school, kids, friends... It can become totally overwhelming and I feel like throwing in the towel and moving to remote island somewhere with my family. 🏝️⁣ ⁣ But I have to remind my kid (and myself!) that if you never try, if you never take a shot, you will never know how much you could achieve. Pumpkin patches - perfect for getting the best fall pictures; worst for the wallet 🎃💸😬⁣ ⁣ Is it just me, or is any excursion with the family starting to cost more than an arm-and-a-leg? I feel like it costs the whole body and then some. 🤪 ⁣ ⁣ We're still deciding whether or not to skip the pumpkin patch this year (and not just because we want to social distance). Every year we go it costs over $100 for a day at the farm. While there are usually lots of things for the kids to do (a play area, farm animals and hay rides), most of them are closed and prices are on the rise. Do you miss the sun yet?⁣  ⁣ The weather is getting crispy, the leaves are falling, and the sun is going down a lot earlier than it was a few months ago. Cozy sweaters are the staple in my wardrobe and my food has so much orange in it that I think our skin is going to start changing color.🥕🎃⁣  ⁣ When I look at this picture, though, I secretly want to go and jump in the water and lay on a warm beach. To be honest, I’m not even really beach obsessed (unlike the Hubs who would literally live on a beach if he could). 🌅Don’t get me wrong, I love swimming and getting my tan on, but I sometimes find too much heat stifling and prefer the fall weather over everything.🍁🍂⁣  ⁣ And while I really do love this season, I realize that winter is on its way and we’re probably not going to be able to travel for a while. Expectation vs Reality⁣  ⁣ My kid’s face when I block the view of the TV is my face when the hubs asks where his keys are for the 100th time. Seriously, though Bubs knows that I’m not a big fan of screens and gets a tad impatient when I cut into his show-watching time slot.⁣  ⁣ Here’s the deal - I’m not necessarily anti-screen as there are a lot of really good educational shows and games my kids love - I personally love @netflix Number Blocks, Storybots, Wildcrats and The Magic School Bus (which I also watched as a kid) - but whenever my son sits too long in front of any screen (TV, tablet, phone, etc.) he becomes an angry and agitated little kid. ⁣  ⁣ So, we’ve had to come up with a schedule of when shows or games are allowed. Usually, it’s while mom/dad are cooking, but it’s limited to half hour per day. But I didn’t love the words so I made my own rendition. ⁣  ⁣ Yesterday was #nationalsonsday and I have to say that the love I have for my boy breaks my heart sometimes. He’s kind, sensitive, stubborn, and loving. He is confident and smart and at times a tad spoiled when he doesn’t get his way (but really, what 4 year old isn’t?)⁣  ⁣ I remember the minute he was born, I gave up preconceived notions on what it means to be a “man” and have let our little guy be (and do) whatever makes his heart soar. We try to build his self-confidence in the following ways:⁣  ⁣ 1.     Creating a safe space to express emotions - kids are humans. They feel sad, frustrated, angry and all other kinds of emotions. Bubs has seen daddy cry both happy and sad tears and knows that he can too.⁣  ⁣ 2.     Give lots of praise and encouragement - Bubs has lots of confidence and is very social, but sometimes I see him holding back when he is unsure. We praise and encourage him to push his boundaries and have confidence in his decisions⁣  ⁣ 3.     We don’t promote competition, but rather doing ones best - When we put Bubs in soccer we thought he would be the next Lionel Messi. It turns out he’s more into the social aspect of soccer, as opposed to the actual game. We love it just the same, and so does he!⁣  ⁣ 4.     We model and emphasize sympathy and empathy in the home - When baby girl was born, Bubs was not too happy. It took him some time to realize his strength and that his little baby sister couldn’t do all the things he could. Today they are best buddies and love each other more than anything. When the path is hard and you need a break. 😅💦⁣ ⁣ When we were in Amalfi, we probably climbed over 1000 stairs (there were over 100 to our @airbnb alone!). While the hubs was able to make it up without a hitch, I needed to take the occasional break to rest my burning thigh muscles 😅⁣ ⁣ Last week was a little like those stairs. A bit hard and stressful, but worth the effort. So, I decided that this weekend I was going to take a little break from my long list of things to do and have some restful quality time with my family.
