Season 2 episode 1 ruined Blitzo and Stolas relationship for me.
First of all I liked how messy and fucked their relationship was. That the power dynamics was staggering. The racist and classist connotations of their relationship was fascinating. Something that could be explored because of the fantastical fictional setting.
S2E1 has now made their relationship dynamic much more balanced.
Stolas is now a poor rich gay lonely boy who fell in love at first sight. Blitzo is now a seductive devilish rogue who gave the poor boy a pity fuck.
I liked it better when it seemed like Stolas was a rich spoiled asshole who was taking advantage of Blitzo. That he was bored of his royal life and used his affair with Blitzo as a form of very taboo escapism. That he just saw him as his impish plaything who he eventually developed true feelings for.
I like that Blitzo was so ambitious that he did whatever it took to established himself and used the business as way to heal his family wounds and abandonment issues. Even if he had to exploit his body, his pride, and his time. His livelihood was in Stolas' hands. And despite the condescending and exploitative treatment of Stolas, Blitzo also developed feelings for him.
I liked that it was hard to tell if they truly was falling in love with each other or two damaged people filling an extensive void in their lives. One looking to escape the life of upper class expectations and a loveless marriage. The other having someone that appears to never want to leave him (or more like never leaving him alone.)
And most of all I like that it was hard to tell how they would work out their relationship. Or if they even could work it out. Thanks to the latest episode it has become so predictable (and dare I say, wholesome.)
It is now the classic "it is all a misunderstanding" type of romance. Once Stolas can prove that he was always in love with Blitzo and that he was so sexual with him because he thought that is what Blitzo wanted all along; they can be finally be a real couple. See, Stolas was never abusive piece of shit. He didnt mean to exploit Blitzo. It is a misunderstanding. He was a depressed socially awkward misunderstood lonely man. Blitzo wants a devoted family and Stolas is willing to be that for him. Once Stolas tears down Blitzo's walls it will be happily ever after.
I mean if you are going to make a toxic ship then do it. The whole "it's set in hell" has been used as an excuse for unsavory behavior in HH and HB. UwUing Stolas makes the relationship like a typical fanfic.
I'm still excited about the next episode tho. I can't wait to see Andrealphus. He pretty😍
