The war on drugs is rooted in racist policies . The failure of the war and drugs is obvious. We need to find a better solution, because people of color should never be the victims of racist policies. White Americans are more likely than black Americans to have used most kinds of illegal drugs, including cocaine and LSD. Yet blacks are far more likely to go to prison for marijuana, which is not a hard drug. Moreover , even when white people get caught , they get less time in prison.
…is that Rachael Leigh Cook, the same actress who did the original anti-drug ad when she was a teenager?
It is indeed.
She grew up, realized she’d been exploited to further a racist government agenda, and turned around to bite the hand that feeds. Awesome.
just thinking bout life
Coconuts have only been in the Caribbean for 500 years. They just….floated on over from Asia and took root. That’s…hilarious.
Wait really? I always thought they were if not native at least brought over on purpose
Right??? I’m watching this nature doc and when the narrator said that I nearly spit my drink giggling. They’re remarkably buoyant and just bob their way to a new shore. So carefree. Truly a fruit destined to be in the Caribbean.
are you suggesting coconuts migrate

“Bellarke is cliche “
Is it because I don’t remember the last time I watched a show were the man respected a woman as much. I don’t remember the last time a man wasn’t “proud” enough to think co-leadering with a woman is him degrading himself. I don’t remember the last time I saw a show were the man actually doesn’t look at the female lead like she’s some broken toy.
So no, Bellarke isn’t cliche. It’s fucking beautiful
and respects her space and gives her the time she needs. respecting her without putting her on a pedestal or expecting her to be flawless.
Bellamy is also older than Clarke by a handful of years yet he trusts her judgement above all others.
And the fact that the man is a POC from the lower class that she sees as a complete equal.
She has complete trust and faith in him. She doesn’t WANT to lead without him. She knows his importance and knew his worth even from the beginning.
This pairing conquers gender and ageist equality on Bellamy’s behalf and also racial/social equality (until Jason Rithenberg demoted him but we don’t like talking about that) on Clarke’s.
Bellamy doesn’t also “turn good” FOR her like other overused codependent and toxic tropes. His development was all his own and he wanted to be a better person because of HIS OWN conscience. Clarke just helped him see that potential within himself. There is also a role reversal later on where he tries to do the same for her because of how important it was to him???
She’s broken now but he lets her go to give her the time she needs in order to fix HERSELF instead of the sexist, overused trope of a man needing to be the one to fix the woman and completing her. The woman in the relationship exists on her own terms completely separate of the man???
They need and depend on each other, yet they have their own storylines and missions and exist outside of each other. Making their relationship a healthy interdependent one rather than a toxic codependent one. They compliment each other. Two sides of the same coin. Yin and yang.
They have the best written relationship ever and I will fight everyone to the death on this.
military worship in this country is out of fucking control
excuse me?
military worship in this country is out of fucking control
Yea you’re right, we shouldn’t honor the people willing to risk their life to save ours and defend our country … oh
Military worship in this country is out of fucking control
I’m in the military and yes it’s out of fucking control. Most of the people I know in the military feel the same way. You civilians need to calm the fuck down. Most of us joined in our teens or early twenties. For a lot of us it was because we needed a job, and we didn’t see any other options, and this job has good benefits, especially for an uneducated young person in America. We get healthcare and education!! That’s some tempting fucking fruit. But this is a JOB. Some people in the military become heroes, that’s true. Jumping on grenades, defusing bombs, dragging a wounded person from the middle of a firefight. They usually end up dead in the process. Those people deserve respect, in my opinion. They give their lives for their friends, no matter whether or not you agree with the policies that put them there in the first place. But a lot of people in America reflexively claim that everyone in the military is a hero, full stop. This isn’t true and it lets people look the other way when something is actually wrong in the military, because it’s the military, they’re heroes, they can do no wrong.
We’re doing a job, and a lot of us are never really put in harm’s way. I work in a climate controlled lab for 8 hours a day, for instance. Really grueling. Such a hero. This fawning lip service of an infallible military doesn’t do us any good. I know people who have bought into it, who have heard so many people tell them that they’re heroes that they actually believe it, and they are the stupid and dangerous ones. Joining the military does not make you a hero, and calling us heroes might make you feel all warm and fluffy and red white and blue but it doesn’t do anything for the people that end up on the streets with PTSD or come home with life-changing injuries or in a box. We’re human beings, not some concept that you can just mindlessly adulate and then feel better about yourself.

THAT ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE! Because that makes the same fine equally threatening to everyone. As opposed to with fixed costs, where they are just peanuts for super rich people so those people can basically speed all they want.
Shouldn’t all fines and penalties be calculated this way? So that consequences present the same threat to each person rather than being damning for one and easily overlooked for another
