“Cats don’t actually love you”
A cat is a small creature in the middle of the food chain that is fully aware that you are a very large thing that could stomp its head in at any moment and yet it chooses to rest its tiny little head on your leg for a nap and spreads out on the floor near you exposing its belly and its most sensitive organs. It brings dead mice and bugs to you to share food.
Don’t you get it? This tiny thing trusts you. It wants to help you too. It licks your leg thinking that it’s helping. It kneads on you to find comfort. It shares its body warmth with you in the cold and gives you your space in the heat. It hisses at other mammals it sees outside including other cats in an effort to protect its family.
Cats love you so so much. But they will keep trying to eat plastic.

the trump administration and rfk jr are spreading false claims that taking tylenol during pregnancy is the cause of autism. tylenol (acetaminophen in general, but the tylenol brand is specifically being called out) is one of the only pain and fever relievers that pregnant people can safely take
I heard about this through BBC and NPR reports this morning (in that order, thanks to time zones), and they all said the same things:
No, acetaminophen does not cause autism (or, more accurately, "there is zero evidence" that it causes autism), and
But fevers during pregnancy are known to be dangerous to the fetus (and acetaminophen is the only safe drug to reduce fevers during pregnancy)
And Trump, in his speech last night, basically told pregnant women to suffer as much as they can stand before taking anything for pain and fevers throughout their entire pregnancy.
Like suffering is the whole point -- as long as it's not them (white men in power).
Now, I want a tee-shirt that says: "Autism is Awesome, Actually!!"
I'd rather live in a society filled with autistic people than live in a society that embraces eugenics, and forces pregnant women to suffer more than the strain of simply being pregnant.
"Yucky stuff" is the first line of defense for human rights against those who only tell you they want to get rid of the "yucky stuff".
You have to help people, even if their aesthetics or lifestyles give you "the ick" because their treatment is the bare minimum. Whatever you let happen to them will happen to you when they're gone.
Helping people who are being overlooked or targeted is just the right thing to do, but if you need a reason that directly impacts you, you need to know you will one day be "the yucky stuff" if you let the ones currently in that spot keep being hunted and excluded.
People, especially politicians, who want to "just get rid of the bad stuff" do not plan to stop at the bad stuff. They just know you won't support them if they admit gays and trans and intersex people are part of the "bad stuff" they want to remove.
Stop stigma,
Overcome ick.
