🧶 Cow hitch increase

Unlike all other single-stitch increases I know, this one is perfectly symmetrical. I’ve been seeing it a lot in my feed lately, so I thought I’d share it. Haven’t tried it yet in a project though.

It mimics the structure of a cow hitch knot - hence the name.

Hand dyed yarn ideas ― Perchance Generator

I've been trying to distract myself from the horrors of modern life by knitting unnecessarily complex cable swatches. They are partly inspired by printer's ornaments and other typographic elements.

ive already decided what my next dye project is going to be. i need to swatch my dyes, badly. BUT i dont want to waste good dye or good yarn. so i decided i am going to make a 'color wheel' that is self striping yarn.

gonna section it into like, 12ish sections, and the stripes will be 100% color a, 75% color a 25% color b, 50/50 colors a and b, 25% color a 75% color b, and so on for each set of colors. i wont add any black to this, i just wanna do the primaries. i can figure out black at a later date

but then i could knit a pair of socks that would be a walking dye swatch. which would be fun. and i still get hand dyed socks out of it instead of having to make a bunch of mini skeins and keep track of them all yk.

gonna try 1% stock solutions too, instead of whatever the fuck kind of dye math i was doing before.

Hand Dyed Yarn Ideas ― Perchance Generator

Right now, it does 2-color gradients, 3-color gradients, and 2-color stripe ideas. In the future, i might add more types of stripe patterns or the ability to choose whether you want a gradient or a stripe pattern, but for now it's very bare bones and just shows you completely random ideas.

there's no consideration for color harmony or anything like that, just completely random hex values being pulled out of a hat. so you might get combos that are hideous, but you also might get cool ones you never wouldve thought of!

the stockinette texture is just so you can sort of visualize what the finished yarn might look like knit up, if you were to use that idea. i might adjust the scale of the image in the future, or even add a way to switch between a few different textures 🤔 id have to take some of my own pictures for that, but i've got a knitting machine, so thats no big deal. couple types of rib, some stockinette, easy peasy tbh. but thats a project for a much later date lol

if theres anything else you wanna see potentially added to this in the future, let me know! i'll see what i can do :P

Added a new genre of idea, which im still fine-tuning. The kind of color pooling you'd get from, i imagine, something like a dip dyed skein? maybe other techniques? not sure really, but i know ive seen yarn pool sorta like this before lol (especially if/when i figure out how to add more than 2 colors to this pattern)

i added a handful of new, blurred pattern overlays to imitate pooling styles, as well as added the possibility of generating a speckled colorway (speckle colors will be random and not always something that is actually possible) AND i jazzed up the button a bit. and then un-jazzed it a little, because it was too cool and it was lagging the whole page.

Now, you can also generate inspirations like these:

tadaa! theres a couple more types of stripes now, so you wont only get boring 2-color, even-width stripes. if theres any other kinds of stripe patters you wanna see, let me know! theyre very easy to make.

another new type of idea added. wahoo! these are fun to add. theyre really just supposed to be inspiration though, i cant imagine trying to dye yarn on purpose to get the exact color pooling pictured, ever. yknow? but as little inspo pieces i think these are so fun. i wanna add maybe one or two more and then call it quits for the day. maybe ill jazz up the button a little. maybe ill add some kind of info panel. i dont really wanna clog stuff up too much tho :P
