10 Tips to Dress for Your Engagement Shoot
Accessorise: A scarf, a pair of drop earrings or a headpiece will all 'dress-up' your outfit if you prefer plainer garments such as white cottons dresses.
Don't Match Your Outfits: It's easy to wear jeans and white tops, but this lacks a personal element. Pick clothes you would wear on a weekend out - individually.
Be Comfortable: Don't feel like you have to dress a certain way. Wear shoes and clothes that fit comfortably so you can enjoy your photo shoot - if heels hurt your feet but you still want to wear them, bring an extra set of comfy shoes.
Be Yourself: These are pictures you will keep forever more. You'll want your personality to shine through, so go ahead and be yourself.
Plan a Colour Palette: You don't have to match your whole outfit but definitely check that the colours don't clash either. You want the attention of the image on yourselves, not on your clothes!
Layer: If it's chilly, layer up a dress with a long cardigan or a mac, so you can take the layers off and have different-looking images. Also, if it gets too cold, it's a more interesting look than having a coat buttoned up to the throat.
Have a Plan B: Take an extra top just in case, just for emergencies.
Don't Wear Brights: Bright greens or red tops will cast colours on your faces as you get close to each other, so the images will have a strange tinge to the skin colour. Stick to more neutral or paler shades near your faces/skin.
Dress in Context: If you're having an sleek shoot, you might wear a cocktail dress and heels. If you're in a park or in the country, you'll want to stick to more casual clothes.
Ask Your Photographer: Ultimately you an your photographer will have made the plans for the shoot together, so you know where you'll go and the style of shooting. Photographers are used to these questions so make sure you ask your photographer if you're unsure!
