I have been dying to yap about this, so here we go. For about the past month I've been working on an entirely book based family tree of arc 1 ThunderClan.
That means that any family relationships not mentioned in the books are treated as irrelevant and unknown fathers will be assigned by genotypic compatibility.
That is, cat genotype compability. I have used cat genetics to map out who is related to who and the human versions just have to deal with it.
Most of the genotypes featured are taken from Little Hungry Warrior's genetically accurate family tree YT videos, with minor changes where I replaced the father.
I have tried to avoid incest where I could, also including future incest, but I haven't really read past the 1st arc, so most of my knowledge is based on the wiki and its sources.
Okay, enough introduction, let's get into it.
Starting off with Firestar's, because atp it's smaller and more manageable.
I know who Firestar's and Princess' parents are, but for my purposes, they weren't relevant at the point of building the initial rough tree. You'll see that I also made Sandstorm and Dustpelt siblings. That's because I always read them as such, the BOOKS don't contradict it, and it avoids DustFern bloodline incest. According to the official family tree, Dustpelt was born to Robinwing and Fuzzypelt, along with Ravenpaw (Ravenhand in this AU. The names are changed into the AU versions within the family tree), it means that they are the same age. I don't think it'd be too far fetched for Robinwing to adopt two kits around the same age as her youngest son.
Not much to be said about Firestar and Princess (or Cloudtail). Their cat forms are black base in this AU, I will include their genotypes.
Yea, this is what we have for them, and I'll also include Sandstorm's and Dustpelt's.
You'll notice that I have left a lot of gaps in their parents' genotypes, and that's because either could have the necessary genes and it doesn't matter. Sandstorm is no longer cream (pale ginger) but fawn, Dustpelt's chocolate. Why is Dustpelt sepia, carrying albino? Because Spiderleg, but he isn't really relevant to my cause. I just think it's fun. But also, I've drawn Dustpelt as non-albino so it's pretty much whatever atp. We ball.
MOVING ON
Frostfur's branch.
Ravenhand's there too, don't pay too much attention to him. You'll notice a mysterious orange Snag/Jaggedtooth as the father of Brightheart, Cinderpelt, Brackenfur, and Thornclaw, instead of Lionheart as proposed by the official family tree. Very simple.
Brightheart needs to be ginger. Frostfur can carry one ginger, but Brightheart needs another and Lionheart doesn't fit the bill, as I will explain later on. There's also the Cinderpelt problem. Cinderpelt is solid blue. No ginger to be found. That's a problem, because she'd either need to have a different father, or...
Trans gal Cinderpelt, YIPPEE!!
Anyways, I want to explain Snag.
Snag was one of Tigerclaw's rogues. In fact, he was important enough that Tigerstar granted him a warrior name (Jaggedtooth). After Tigerstar's death, Jaggedtooth fought for the side of BloodClan.
I feel like there's writing potential there, BUT I have another reason for this. My other option was Scorchwind of ShadowClan. The problem with him was that he has a LOT of established family, being Raggedstar's brother and Rowanclaw's father. Thus, Snag was the lesser of two evils (even though he was probably more evil than Scorchwind). In any case, he's not a major character and fits my purposes well enough, so...
I don't know how much needs to be explaine here. I did choose cinnamon Brackenfur and choclate Thornclaw, as well as making Frostfur albino (because that's the only way she can be full white with her genes), and that's pretty much it. Also, Snag's a classic tabby in my interpretation, probs so he can give one mc to Brightheart, but that's details I didn't even bother to pay a lot of attention to, so whatever. Brightheart, Brackenfur, and Thornhand are all mackerels in my mind's eye.
Time for Robinwing and Patchpelt!
I do have only their genotypes put here, because Patchpelt was veery far from Robinwing on my big tree and had lots of other jokers there that I don't want to talk about yet.
So yeah, Robinwing's a ticked chocolate tortie. Frostfur's chocolate under her albino, others only exhibit black. They carry chocolate for funsies. Brindleface carries albino for Ferncloud, for her to give to Spiderleg. If we go the sepia Spiderleg route. But it's whatever.

But yeah, Lionheart is now the father of Ashfur and Ferncloud because, uh... Whitestorm has too much white. That's it. That's the reason. Ferncloud does need some white, so I gave Lionheart a bit, but Ashfur remains white free.
Lionheart is not cream for reasons I will get to eventually, but other than that, it's relatively standard. I'm not sure why I also gave Ashfur an a for solid, but it's not like he has anyone to give them to either, so fuck it. He gives Ferncloud a little bit of white, but otherwise is just a good guy to put in there.
As I said, I'll explain fawn Lionheart later, but right now I'll be jumping to
Swiftbreeze and Adderfang
This is genuinely the biggest I could go for this branch, forgive me for Tumblr's compression
These two had Patchpelt, Leopardfoot, Spottedleaf, Redtail, and Willowpelt and are as such basically responsible for literally half the god damn Clan.
I did pair Willowpelt with Smallear for two litters, which I will get to in a minute, but first.
Genotypes. Yay. So yeah, Redtail's chocolate and a trans man because I said so. And that's also the reason he can even be a tortoiseshell. Spottedleaf's a low white calico and Leopardfoot's a low contrast bengal. Because I can and it doesn't seem to actually seriously conflict with anything. I do think it's funny that literally all of her siblings are solid and she gets called solid as well. Spamming that 25% of the punnet squares.
Oh yeah, it's Willowpelt time
In my AU, Willowpelt has three litters. Two with Smallear, one with Whitestorm. Whitestorm is mentioned in the books, Smallear is Darkstripe's and Greystripe's father. It's very exciting, I love what I did there. ALSO.
I think that Greystripe calling Darkstripe neither young nor beautiful is funny as fuck, because Darkstripe is younger than Spottedleaf (Willowpelt, Spottedleaf, and Redtail are all from the same litter if I remember correctly, but I could be mistaken), but also Greystripe's older brother. 10/10 sibling interaction, would do the same if I wasn't the oldest.
I forgot to mention that Willowpelt is a blue-cream tortie. Oops. Anyways. Smallear is a ticked tabby. He is usually described as solid, and heterozygous ticked doesn't remove as many stripes as I'd like, but he does give Greystripe that ticked that allows him to have minimal striping and gives Darkstripe that Agouti allele, which he also needs.
I do not remember why Whitestorm is ticked. Probably because initially I considered having him be Greystripe's father, but he'd also give Greystripe white, so I scrapped that idea.
Willowpelt had to be tortie for Sorreltail. Usually Sorreltail's also depicted as either a chocolate tortie or a black one, but due to both Whitestorm's and Willowpelt's dilution, she has to be lilac and cream. Little Hungry Warrior had her be blue and cream, but I like lilac and cream Sorreltail better (it also gave me an excuse to use chocolate, ehheehehe)
I think that when I drew Whitestorm, I accidentally made him fawn, though he should be blue under his VERY HIGH WHITE. Not white dominant (Wd). He can carry fawn or lilac under his blue though, it's all good since both are recessive and he could get them from anywhere.
Greystripe and Silverstream time.
There's literally nothing interesting going on there. The actual point of interest for would be Millie and her and Greystripe's kits, but they don't exist in the first arc so I didn't bother. I also didn't do Silverstream's family tree, but I might at some point in the future.
No genotyping this time because it's nothing interesting. Silverstream's silver, Feathertail and Stormfur are basically copies of both of them.
I can't be bothered to do each family here on its own, but
Bluestar
I hate Tumblr compression.
Anyways. This is Bluestar's family and then some of the plot relevant and former TC elders. I'm pretty sure that Windflight and Rainfur is an official family tree invention, but I also didn't care enough at that point, since the only one of these that had kits was Dappletail and her's died, so it's pretty much a genetic dead end.
Snowfur and Thistleclaw's lines lead down into Whitestorm.
I do have a bit of Moonflower's family as well, but there's nothing that you can't get from Little hungry warrior's videos, so I think my explanation is unnecessary, as I did nothing interesting or different. Rosetail had me gripping the table with her blue and ginger, but now she's blue and cream and will have to live (die) with that.
Both Bluestar and Snowfur are point, though, minkpoint. That's cool, I guess.
Ok fine, I'll also put this here.
Tigerclawstar time.
The big tree was once again a bit widespread for me to cleanly put it in here, but Pinestar's cinnamon now and Tigerclaw's a brown tabby that carries cinnamon. No bengal, because TIGER, but it was fun while it lasted. He's also carrying classic for Tawnypelt to give to Tigerheartstar in the future, but that's the future, not the now.
Otherwise, nothing special. Moving on.
I love Goldenflower, and Goldenflower's genes are a lot of fun too. Swiftpaw is no longer Patchpelt's but Fuzzypelt's, because their genotypes are similar enough, actually, and he was a tom that didn't have any kits at that point.
Goldenflower's a tortie, so Tawnypelt can be a tortie and Bramblehand can be not ginger, Tawny and Goldenflower are both classic tabbies, because 1) it's gorgeous and 2) because it's fun.
I'm not too attached to the idea of a high white Swiftpaw, he can be a very borderline low white for all I care, but Fuzzypelt with a white locket is also a fun mental image and imo adds more visual interest to him, so it can go either way.
Goldenflower has to have white either way.
Ok now we're getting to the fun part
Cloudpelt was the ShadowClan deputy under Raggedstar's leadership for a while. "What's he doing here?" you might ask. Well, the reason is Snowkit.
Cloudpelt is a full white tom. If I was entirely book accurate, he'd be white by the same means that Whitestorm is, BUT, I have a very good reason.
For Snowkit to be white, blue-eyed, and deaf, he'd have to be white dominant. Speckletail is not white dominant. that means the father had to be.
After scouring the Warriors wiki for white toms, I ended up with three possible toms. Cloudpelt of ShadowClan, Flytail of WindClan, and Oliver the kittypet. Oliver is the only one of these that is actually white dominant. Both Flytail and Cloudpelt had low white or high white parents, but Oliver is Cloudtail's father.
What broke the tie, was Cloudpelt's ginger and white mother, as Speckletail's mystery mate also had to have ginger under his white.
I could have made Goldenflower's and Lionheart's father a different tom from Snowkit's and Mistlekit's, but... too much work.
Cloudpelt had plenty of half siblings, so he absolutely could also have had a father that wasn't Toadskip, because it was a mess over there.
And thus we get fawn and cream Goldenflower and fawn Lionheart.
My only remaining concern with Cloudpelt was his age, because while I'm pretty sure that Lionhearted and Goldenflower were plausible, Snowkit and Mistlekit were both kits. Then again, Brokenstar had become leader rather recently at the beginning of arc 1, and I don't know the timeline from Cloudpelt's death to Raggedstar's death. Cat pregnancies are very weird in the books as well, so I'm choosing not to worry about it too much.
I don't care about Speckletail's or One-eye's father. They're both old enough for him to be pretty irrelevant.
Speckletail is a fawn tabby with no ginger. That choice was made so One-eye could remain blue, since there's no way I could sneak ginger onto Harepounce and if their father had it, One-eye would also have to be tortie.
I did give both One-eye and Speckletail widebanding, though. Speckletail so she can appear more golden, and One-eye so she can carry it on.
Which brings us to One-eye and Halftail's family.
Yeah, Longtail's there. It isn't actually stated anywhere in the books that he's Robinwing's and Patchpelt's, so I took creative liberties, and I acctually think that this works better.
Idk, I feel like Mousefur and Longtail make a nice sibling dynamic, and in my mind eye, Runningwind and Longtail also look sort of similar, with Runningwind being described as golden brown tabby and Longtail as pale tabby, that gets depicted as yellow/tan.
I present to you, widebanded Runningwind and Longtail. Mousefur's just solid chocolate, but I think that she's neat too. I love giving characters chocolate.
They can be from the same litter or different ones, I don't think it really matters. I think Mousekit and Runningkit were described as playing in one of them, but I think either one is still plausible.
But yea, Longtail's also heterozygous ticked, even if he's described as a tabby. I like ticked Longtail and I think that he has enough striping to still be called a tabby. He's also classic, because classic is my guilty pleasure and I think it suits him.

In this AU Princess joins ThunderClan eventually and she and Longtail get together because it's my human AU and I do what I want.
Also scene from my fic, "Once a pet, always a pet!", which is... literally the fight scene from the 1st book's 3rd chapter, except they're humans.
Some more changes in the AU in addition to my very self-indulgent rarepair:
No weird Spottedleaf x Firepaw. Firepaw has a puppy love sort of crush on Spottedleaf, but that's it. Spottedleaf does not return these feelings.
Redtail and Spottedleaf are both in their late-twenties/early-thirties. That would allow Redtail to have been Bluestar's deputy for a while and Spottedleaf to still be described as young.
StarClan is not real in the sense that we understand it. I feel like that needs some further explanation, but the gist of it, is that all the dead people are AI generated simulations of the real people.
Mothermouth is still an abandoned mine, but it's a mine created by the aliens that colonized Earth. The Moonstone is a high-tech fabricator that was left behind by the aliens. Also, it injects the wild folk with microchips, that allows the AI to contact them and gather information.... I'm still figuring the logistics of all that out.
Instead of dogs there are Maneaters, as the wild folk call them. They're also alien (Dawnwalker) pets, but arenusually stronger and louder than a human.
Most of the normal Earth animals still exist in-universe, but the Clans feed on deers, birds, fish, and rabbits, and other big game that they can catch. They also scavenge fruits and berries more, and have the beginnings of agriculture.
There are more roles within the Clan, but they're more rotation based, with very few people who do only one thing within the Clan. All members of a Clan can hunt, fight, cook, sew, and perform basic first aid. They do not mine or use metals themselves, though. They rely on the fabricator for things that require metal.
The queens and elders are vital for the Clan, because they do the more stationary duties, such as sewing (mostly queens) and pottery.
The queens sew the clothes for their children themselves. They also make the fabric themselves from flax, hemp, nettles, and wool if they can get it. It's a long and difficult process, but they manage. Perma queens often become the pros at weaving, and as such often handle the production of the fabric.
Deer and cow pelts are often used for clothing and footwear as well, but I'm thinking of creating a separate leathersmith role.
I might be overthinking all of this, since the books are literally about cats living in societies that have organized religion, but I'm learning a lot about life in the medieval times, and I believe, that once I get everything down, it could be a more interesting story than the original books =w=
