I just love the idea of them being the worst father figures ever

I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like you’re not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. You’re not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. You’re not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. You’re not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

My fabrication is that Dante prefers drinking in door, specifically in his office at inappropriate time.

During their time together in the past, often that Vincent came over the office to meet a "drunken" Dante. What was a quick visit before a designated out turned into a drinking session. Dante makes it clear that he doesn't want to go out last minute, with that much acolhol bottles on the table. Of course Vincent was pissed by the sudden changed, he reserved a place and has told Dante days before. However, he decided to stay back and joining Dante in his home, pouring himself a glass and sitting in Dante's seat silently. They both know the others are aware that one can tell Dante doesn't get drunk easily. And with Vincent, who is within his range, Dante would often becomes his go-to clinging post. And a conversation like this would happen.

"I'm angry with you, you know that? Be honest"

"I'm aware"

" We've been planning this date for DAYS"

"You planned it"

"Yes AND you agreed, didn't you?"

"That was the past me agreeing with you"

"Then are you going go tell me what's going on with this? What's wrong?"

a horror film not being scary isnt a bad thing. horror is supposed to HORRIFY, and conflating it with this obsession with scares has really messed with the genre imo. its why so many films are ineffective with audiences, because they leave no lasting impression due to the fact that filmmakers are focusing so muchon trying to scare you and not actually exploring things that deeply unsettle us.

If anyone enjoys parsing academic language, I reccomend reading the Philosophy of Horror by Noel Carrol which talks pretty much exactly about this extensively! He breaks down the horror genre and why exactly a movie that causes a fear response isn't by default a good horror movie, or sometimes a horror movie at all
