‘The President Is the Smoking Gun’: Democratic Congresswoman Reminds Republicans Trump Confessed On National TV

"The smoking gun is already reloaded. And whether or not it gets fired, that’s up to us.”

U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal delivered what may be the most convincing argument to Republicans yet on why they should vote to impeach President Donald Trump during Wednesday night’s impeachment articles markup debate.

“The president is the smoking gun,” the Democratic Congresswoman told her fellow Judiciary Committee members, as NBC News reports.

“This is not hearsay. The president was the first and best witness in this case. The president admitted to his wrongdoing and corrupt intent on national television. The president is the smoking gun.”

Noting that the “facts are clear,” Rep. Jayapal made her case, saying “Donald Trump abused the power of the office of the presidency to pursue his own personal political gain, and leveraged critically needed, congressionally approved military aid to coerce a fragile foreign ally to interfere in our elections.”

During Wednesday night’s impeachment hearings in front of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D) torched the GOP’s BS arguments in a searing defense of the Constitution to justify impeaching Trump for his crimes.

It’s unfair that Katie Hill was forced to resign for consensual sexual acts that were spread without her consent. She didn’t do anything criminal, but the person who leaked that video did. Consensual sexual activity is not a crime. I agree that there are ethical problems with having that kind of relationship with a staffer, BUT it’s not comparable to actual criminal activity. She shouldn’t be considered the same as people who resigned from Congress because of actual sexual assault allegations.

And yes, she was unfairly targeted because she is a woman, younger than most of her congressional colleagues, and LGBTQ.

Meanwhile, Duncan Hunter is still in Congress after having illegally misused campaign funds. It took Chris Collins over a year to resign for insider trading. And of course, Trump is still in office, but he’s in a different category altogether, in that he thinks he’s “untouchable.”
