made you some graphics to help you remember
ned creating the spider-man tracking board even though so many people theorised that it was mj.
ned remembering the handshake with peter, causing something to click for him about who peter was.
point is that ned and peter are the best friends to ever best friend, and that platonic loves come in for the win in bnd!!!!!!!!
I think too often people forget that “they” is as much a pronoun as any of the others, and it isn’t as neutral as you want it to be.
I accept it as a useful default (and I use it that way myself), but once a person has told you their preferences, you GOTTA stop using they/them if it’s not on the list. please. this isn’t me trying to make anyone feel bad but it’s at a point where I’m misgendered more in “inclusive” spaces than literally anywhere else
I’m a cis woman, and presented as such for most of my life. Then I cut my hair short: and it made my more masculine features stand out. I have a pretty ambiguous body type in general and that, combined with mostly doing blue-collar work at the time, resulted in people assuming I was a young man maybe 40% of the time.
I didn’t mind this!! I even liked the assumption. It was fun, kinda charming. I’m a lesbian and it was nice to have conversations around the jobsite with cis guys about dating girls etc etc
Occasionally people would “find out” I was a woman, and the reaction was always apologetic? Which was a shame. I always emphasized that it was ok for people to stick with their initial impression of me. I don’t feel misgendered by she or him because gender is a social construct and at times when people refer to me with masculine pronouns, it’s because I’m occupying a social role associated with that. Which I enjoy. I like being the nice, helpful young man that people can rely on when I'm working security. I don't like being the odd one out in a group, and being perceived as the only woman in a space does exactly that.
Gender is entirely a social role to me, and so when asked my pronouns are she/him. I still identify as cis, and in an ideal world (FOR ME PERSONALLY), everyone would just stick with their gut reaction and not feel bad about or second-guess their initial perception of my binary gender. This is the experience I have in distinctly non-queer spaces and it's good! Just a "hey, don't worry. i can be a bloke lol" if it ever even comes up (it usually doesn't) and that's it.
Progressive spaces are built for the "average" queer person, and I think that's generally a good thing. I don't mind listing my pronouns when I enter a space even if I would much rather let people assume; because doing so normalizes and protects infinitely more vulnerable people than me. The problem arises when I give people a binary choice and they go AH! you are NONBINARY! when I have just made it abundantly clear the opposite is true.
I don't like they/them, it's the only set of pronouns that make me feel anything close to dysphoria. I don't mind them as a "stranger's pronoun" -- I think it's the generally polite way to refer to someone if you don't know them well enough to ask. That said, it's not neutral. It's at a point where I've had to become LESS queer when entering new queer spaces to avoid this kind of noncommittal treatment. I have a woman's name that I don't intend to change, so I've had to go back to being a "cis lesbian: she/her" because it's more comfortable for people who are so afraid to offend me by making a decision, that they choose the one option that is actually misgendering me. it sucks
This post is about my personal experience and having lots of notes doesn’t change that. It will not cover every circumstance in which they/them is used, nor should it, because I am not an arbiter of such situations.
Please stop telling me about fringe circumstances or arguing about semantics. My experiences are not universal; your experiences are also not universal.
IF YOU IGNORE THE PART WHERE I SAY I ACCEPT THEY/THEM AS A USEFUL DEFAULT I WILL KILL YOU WITH A GUN
thanks

the thing about zukka is that sokka being into zuko is like not at all out of character for him. sokka's type is like someone who is strong and who has a deep and unyielding sense of duty and pride for their culture and love for their people and post-redemption arc thats basically zuko's whole thing. and zuko being into sokka is not out of character because sokka’s like the rizzmaster 8000

gender essentialism is soooo funny bc it's like "this is what women are like" and you're like "I've met women and many of them, if not the majority, have not been like that" and it's like "well women SHOULD be like that" and you're like "why should women be like that" and its like "because that's what women are like"
i think what hurts the most is that they fucking told me it was a sad song but the trumpets had me clapping and stomping my feet like a repressed 50s housewife listening to her radio.
“ITS A SAD SONG ITS A TRAGIC TALE ITS SAD FULL TRAGEDY ITS SAD VERY SAD EMOTION SAD. ”
“this beat is fucking fire bro”
a crude summary of one of my favorite musicals
My favorite thing about online queer discourse is that it literally repeats every year but with a different identity and so many people just go along with it. It’s like watching a series of people literally never learn their lesson.
Let’s see if I can make a timeline so if I remember correctly it was bisexuals first right because y’all wanted them to pick a side (no irony there, clearly forcing people into a sexuality they don’t fit with has historically worked great and been a net positive)
Then pansexuals because people had the audacity to experience multi-attraction but not identify with your specific label
And then there was the ace discourse about how people who are ace/aro aren’t REALLY lgbt because?? Y’all said lack of attraction wasn’t a sexuality and clearly they were just?? Broken??? (Again, no irony in this. Telling people with sexualities you don’t understand that they’re broken has always been a net positive and worked out great for everybody in the end)
Oh and then y’all came for bi-lesbians because y’all forgot people can experience different romantic and sexual attraction
Then y’all started calling trans women pedophiles (AGAIN WITH NO IRONY, NOT LIKE THE COMMUNITY HAS A RAMPANT HISTORY OF QUEER PEOPLE BEING CALLED PEDOPHILES AS A FEAR MONGERING TACTIC)
And then y’all started insulting trans men for speaking out about possibly suffering from their own set of issues that comes with being trans men (god forbid people have their own set of issues they wanna address separately, everyone knows the queer experience is universal right?)
And literally every single time all I hear is:
Like maybe I’m crazy but perhaps the biggest threat to our community is not people making up labels or mixing labels or talking about their own personal forms of oppression they face - but maybe. Just maybe. It’s the hoards of just genuinely straight up homophobic bigoted people who are actively trying to cut trans health care and take away gay marriage. Idk maybe that’s just me.
