of all the things that made the hadestown proshot worth watching, i was most impacted by the performance of Flowers. OBCR Flowers is beautiful and emotional, yes, but the proshot version is fucking raw. eurydice screaming and crying. desperately pleading: "IS ANYBODY LISTENING?" tears streaming down her face: "I OPEN MY MOUTH AND NOTHING COMES OUT!" and you believe it, somehow, even though you're sitting there hearing her, because you can feel the dead air as nobody answers. they can hear, but they don't care. what does it matter that we all hear her? no one says anything. how can she know anyone is listening if no one acknowledges her at all? you feel that song like being punched in the stomach over and over, like you're clawing through dirt but you can't quite dig yourself out of a grave. and that's just the power of eva noblezada man.

a crude summary of one of my favorite musicals

So Noah Wyle saying Langdon needs a friend in S3, and Taylor saying Mel is giving this friendship and independence thing a try . . . albeit unsuccessfully at first.

I would be unsurprised if Mel tries to rope some of her colleagues into going to some sort of museum with her and getting summarily rejected the first few hours of her shift only for Frank Langdon, revealing he's recently separated from his wife and needing a friend, making plans with her to go to one in the last few hours of her shift.

the concept of mel trying to convince everyone into doing something nerdy, justifying it through different means, usually being that they are some flavour of minority and minorities have silly interests sometimes. slowly her justifications for reasons they go with her get looser (trinity mentioned throwing me into the sea like they did at the boston tea party, maybe that’s my in?)and continually getting rejected. she gets to the end of her shift, thoroughly defeated, tears streaming down her face with two tickets. when langdon comes over, notices her tickets and gets elated that she got tickets, that he spent ages trying to buy them but missed out. langdon, the straight white man that is affectionately called er ken after his annoyingly good looks.. like history. and wants to go with her.
