Noah and I are finally getting married after nearly 14 years of long distance — and I'm moving to Canada to be with him!

Instead of a wedding registry, we'd love it if anyone who wanted to celebrate with us would consider contributing toward the costs of making that happen; things like flight tickets, immigration fees, shipping costs, and settling in can add up fast, and any little bit would genuinely mean the world to us.

Over twenty years ago my big brother got me a job at a Taco Bell in the St. Louis suburbs-West County. He warned me that it was the “gay Taco Bell”, but since I was coming from the “gay Howard Johnson’s” I wasn’t shocked. It turns out it was the black trans women Taco Bell complete with black trans women in management. And they’d worked out an arrangement with the local teen Narcotics Anonymous group so that twice a week we would shut down the drive thru and the dining room and exclusively serve 60+ teens in various stages of recovery. And many of the women I worked with were in various stages of being out or transitioning and they were from all generations from teens to over 50. One woman I worked with had a regular corporate job presenting as a man 9-5 Mon-Fri and then came to Taco Bell and worked 6pm -2am Friday and Saturday night so she could be herself surrounded by other black transwomen in those stolen weekends. And we had customers come from all over the metro area because they knew they could be themselves in the dining room. I only worked there from 1999-2001 but for young me, this was a vital, formative experience. Some of the girls came from north city all the way out to the “gay Taco Bell” on Manchester in west county because they heard it was safe to work there. Like- I know times have changed but they haven’t changed much in 20 years. I’m still convinced that for lgbt youth, finding a job at your city’s version of the “gay Taco Bell” is key to survival.

Ben: loaded bc of family history but i went by this name 2008-2015

Cat: short version of my birth name and still comfortable going by it as a nickname

Guy: worried it would cause confusion bc my gender is fluid between woman/agender and Im visibly butch and use he/him pronouns but am not a man. But on the other hand guillaume is one of my fav french names.

Nikita: was almost my birth name! Can be both a man's name and a woman's name but im not sure Noah Nikita flows well together

Andy etc: nice way to "transition" my middle name Ann to something more masc

Jude: asked my parents for family names, I dont know this relative but my mom was fond of him

Ann: lazy option to just keep my middle name as is, Noah Ann doesnt sound terrible together

LastName-LastName: not gonna dox my full name lmao but its going to be the same amount of syllables as lastname-lastname once rachel and I hyphenate our names 💚

i was talking about this on my server earlier but i really think "cozy" is one of the worst genre labels out there in the gaming space. like people dunk on the terms "metroidvania" and "first person shooter" a lot for being uncreative or limiting but at least those are like... falsifiable descriptors. you can look at a game and go "yeah this game's mechanics and core gameplay loop generally operate like metroid/castlevania" or "yeah this game primarily uses a first person camera paired with some sort of projectile weapon" so i don't think they're completely useless. but "cozy" is just nonsense. fully subjective. i see a lot of games popularly labeled as "cozy" that share almost zero mechanical features between them and don't even always match in tone or aesthetic. hearing a game described as "cozy" doesn't tell you anything about what to expect as a player beyond maybe giving you a sort of forewarning about the fanbase and their discomfort tolerance. "cozy" is not a quantifiable metric. like imagine if someone offered to buy you takeout and asked you what kind of food you'd like and you told them fully unironically, and with no further elaboration, "i want to get yummy food." that's what hearing "cozy games" sounds like to me
