Did you guys hear they're rebooting Goncharov as an 8 part HBO miniseries? :/
I just hope its more faithful to the book. Scorseses film is a great, but its not a very faithful adaptation. I'll never understand cutting out Goncharov's son from the movie entirely. In the book, he doesnt kill that coke dealer because 'thought he was selling to kids' but because he had gotten his son hooked.
Also ice-pick joe in the book is MUCH more sympathetic, the move just makes him 'oooo scary psychopath' and only kinda hints at the trauma that made him that way. Hopefully with more time, the series will be able to dive more into his background.
We can dream, but seriously man do you thing even HBO is going to touch Joe's mommy......issues...... with a 10 foot bargepole? Of even if they do that they will remotely mention his dog?
Oh don't get me wrong, the intensity of the moment when he has to make that choice is one of the best parts of the story (and told through the eyes of his pet it really does cast Joe in a new light) but I can't see them adding it into a show.
