You’ve grown into someone who would have protected you as a child. And that is the most powerful move you made.

do you ever feel like you are never YOURSELF with your parents/family?
we need to talk about one of the worst feelings in the world: the feeling that you will only be free to live as yourself once your parents/relatives die.
it's so terrible to feel that you need to wear a mask around them, and you can never forget to put it on.
you can never say what you really think, you can never talk about the subjects that really interest you, or even use the words you'd like to use in conversation. You always have to behave carefully.
a lot of people brought this matter up when Jennette McCurdy's book came out (which I haven't read yet, but it's on my list). I think unfortunately it's a genuine feeling, and I find it deeply saddening.
no one should raise a child to live in repression, without having the freedom to express themselves freely and be who tf they want to be.
when you grow up with parents who repress you, you have dreams of freedom. You fantasize about disappearing off the map, moving to another country, traveling the world with no specific destination, cutting off contact with everyone.
while traveling and moving can be amazing experiences, you know deep down that really the thing you want the most is your freedom. You just wish you could be free, without having to explain yourself, without being scolded for just expressing yourself or being who you are.
