UK, and it was death note lol. The first I ever watched really understanding what "anime" was, with subs, etc. End to end, every episode, with my bestie during secondary school.

Otherwise before that I did see Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon occasionally on TV as a kid but didn't really watch them.
