So you’ve learned Hangul. ‘What do I do now?’ is probably your next question. I would know because you all have asked me at least ten times a day. The people have spoken; a lot. So I shall give the people what they want. Here is a short masterlist for beginners who are endlessly stuck at Hangul and have no idea what to do next:
Typing in Korean: ♡ Hangul (just in case you haven’t gotten that part yet) ♡ Practice your Hangul: typing test ♡ How to change your keyboard: language setting ♡ Korean Fonts
Flashcards / Apps: ♡ Quizlet ♡ Anki ♡ Apps
Websites: ♡ Talk to Me in Korean (TTMIK) ♡ How to study Korean (HTSK) ♡ Lang-8 ♡ KoreanClass101 ♡ Haru-Korean ♡ Learn Korean ♡ Sogang Korean
Masterlists: ♡ Study Korean 101 ♡ Fluentlee ♡ From Ireland to Korea ♡ Lost in Korean Translations ♡ Flicker of Korean ♡ Korean from Dummies ♡ Bite Sized Korean ♡ Bulletproof Korean ♡ Sohee Studies ♡ Hannah-DulSet ♡ Korean Study Tips ♡ Su-eop ♡ GGKorean
My Resources / Recommended: ♡ Textbooks ~ I will always recommend TTMIK (textbooks here) ♡ Korean Games ♡ Websites ♡ Apps ♡ Webtoons
Beginner Need to Know: ♡ Introducing yourself ♡ Vocabulary (literally fill your brain with as much vocab as possible) ♡ Batchim (받침) ♡ Sentence Structure ♡ Conversational Korean
Tips: ♡ The romanized Korean is not a complete representation of the Korean alphabet. Understanding that pronunciation/spoken Korean is just as important as reading and writing will help your Korean flourish - so drop romanization. ♡ You are literally free to do whatever you want. You could learn phrases, vocab, grammar - you could even start taking beginner lessons at a KSL school or find a tutor; your Korean language journey is your own. What works for me might not work for you. ♡ There’s always a honeymoon stage. What I mean by this is sometimes people are caught up in the excitement of learning Korean that they forget to do the boring stuff - ie grammar and extensive studying. The honeymoon stage usually filters those who are serious and those who aren’t about learning Korean. ♡ However you chose to learn Korean, own it. If you’d like to learn through KDramas/KPop, that’s okay. If you want to go to Korea and immerse yourself, that’s okay. Own it. And work hard while you’re at it.
Studying Korean is a beautiful and painful process. As a former beginner, I can tell you it’s a lot of work but it’s worth it. I hope that you have some guidance now when you’re done learning Hangul, but it’s really up to you the path you decide to take. Best of luck! I will always be here to answer your questions - don’t hesitate to message. Happy Studying :)

Asking the Right Questions (2/7)
왜(요)?
Why?
왜 나한테 이러는 거예요? : Why are you doing this to me?
왜 여기 있어요? : Why are you here?
왜 안 했어요? : Why didn’t you do it?
왜 그렇게 생각해요? : Why do you think that?
왜 도망가요? : Why are you running (away)
Even though 왜(요) has only one translation; why, sometimes in certain contexts it can be used to mean what.
is only translated to mean what when:
Asking asking the reason why someone is doing something
Example:
Person A: stares at person B
Person B: 왜?
Explanation: In English if you say caught someone staring at you then you say What (are you looking at)? but in Korean 왜(요)? can be used and it holds the meaning of why (are you looking at me).
how to stop translating in your head? When I read a sentence in Korean, I may know the meaning of all the words and I'm able to explain all the grammar used, but the sentence still doesn't make sense to me, so I try to translate word by word and just guess the overall meaning, and then when I read the translation I just go "ooh, I knew that, that makes sense". Sometimes I feel like I'm more worried about guessing the right translation than actually understanding the sentence meaning
So, as you’ve already guessed by now, translating everything into your native language from Korean, has kind of set you back a little. On your road to fluency, it takes a little getting used to, but once you start to do these things, thinking of the language will get A LOT easier.
1. My first big tip is to: ASSOCIATE the word with that thing rather than it’s translation.
Example: 의자 -> chair (ENG) -> image of chair VS 의자 -> image of chair
Another example I can think of is in 한글 (hangul), don’t think of the romanized equivalent (b, m, d, g, etc.), think of the sound that character produces.
If it helps (with vocabulary), I would recommend downloading Lingodeer and FEL Korean, both apps give you a log of vocabulary with the pictures (as well as the translation). Focus on the pictures!
2. My next big tip is to: have sticky notes everywhere!
This is pretty straight forward and kind of like association, but if you put a sticky note on your chair with 의자 taped to it, you will begin to associate your chair with the Korean word. Everywhere you go, you see the Korean equivalent - does that make sense?
3. My last biggest tip is to: think in Korean
This might be a little confusing (I don’t mean only thinking in Korean), so I will explain to the best of my ability, and if you’re still confused - don’t hesitate to ask for more clarification.
Sometimes, for me, when I am practicing Korean, I like to just spout Korean words. 80% of the time, it doesn’t make sense, but it helps me get in the flow of thinking in Korean and not translating everything I’m saying. An anon a little while back, mentioned that they would talk to their dog in Korean just to get the feel of speaking Korean. You can do this or you can speak to yourself - whatever gets you in the feeling of speaking Korean.
I would also recommend writing out something, then record it in your voice, then listening to it over and over again. You are the one that wrote the Korean and spoke it - so you know what you wrote and can pick out the Korean phrases easily.
Internal narration, or speaking to yourself, not only helps your listening, but it also helps your pronunciation. When you’re ready, I would recommend speaking with a native - so you can get those corrections and pronunciation tips right away.
I hope this helps and that you start thinking rather than translating. Keep up the good work, and Happy Learning :)

These are really some helpful study tips to improve fluency.
hello!! i’m confused about something. is there any difference between “않다” and “아니다”?
Hi there! Hopefully I can help :)
아니하다 -> 않다 (also a contraction of 안 하다) ~ follows adjectives (and is usually paired with -지) ~ can be ‘not’ or ‘not do x’
Examples: 1. 공부하지 않아(요) - (I) don’t study 2. 어렵지 않아(요) - not difficult
아니다 -> 안 ~ follows nouns and can also come in front of adjectives and verbs
Examples: 1. 선생님이 이니에요 - I’m not a teacher 2. 안 예뻐요 - not pretty
If you’re still confused, don’t hesitate to send me another message ~ Happy Learning :)

Random Korean word of the day #4
머물다
-To stay
Example
네가 내 곁에 머물 수가 없어요?
-Can’t you stay with me? / can’t you stay by my side?
Learning Korean with Kpop #5
Song: 내꺼야 - Produce 48
Word/Phrase of the day : (을) ㄹ 수(가) 없다
Today’s lesson will focus on how to say wether you can or can’t do something. The sentence structure you can use to say that you “can” do something is:-(으)ᄅ 수 있다 like wise when you can’t do something you use -(으)ᄅ 수 없다
Examples
자다 = to sleep
잘 수 없다 = can not sleep
잘 수 있다 = can sleep
잡다 = to catch
잡을 수 없다 = can not catch
잡을 수 있다 = can catch
An easier way of saying that you can not do something is to use 못 before the verb
Example
갈 수 없다 = 못 가다 [verb: 가다] = can not go
볼 수 없다 = 못 보다 [verb: 보다] = can not see
먹을 수 없다 = 못 먹다 [verb: 먹다] = can not eat
할 수 없다 = 못 하다 [verb: 하다] = can not do
**remember that all these sentences are in their un-conjugated verb forms and must be modified before use**
** The 가 used in the phrase of the day is optional, and is just for emphasis.
할 수(가) 없어 I(you) can't do it. / It's not possible to do it.**
Sample Sentences
이제 더는 숨길수가 없어 = I cant hide it anymore - 내꺼야(pd48)
좋아 이젠 너를 잊을 수 있게 = Fine, now I can forget you - Gashina(선미)
Song #2: One Shot Two Shot by BoA
A lyrical breakdown
Grammar + Verbs
가빠지다 : to hyperventilate
높아지다 : to rise up
-는 + Noun : add to verb stem -는 to modify the noun
Example
닭발을 좋아하는 친구 = a friend who likes chicken feet
좋아하다 = to like
친구 = friend
Adjective/Verb + (은) ㄴ 걸 : 1. Expresses a regret about things that have happened already but against your expectation or wish 2. Can also be protesting a difference in opinion or plan of others.
When the V/ A ends in a consonant, add 은걸요. When ending in a vowel or ㄹ, add ㄴ 걸요. Without 요 at the end, it becomes a casual talk
Example
너무 늦게 왔어. 표가 다 팔린걸요 = (I) came too late. The tickets were all sold out.
표 = ticket
팔리다 = to sell out
늦게 오다 = to come late
Verb + 고 있다 : To be doing
알다 : to know
흐르다 : to fall down
반짝이다: to dazzle
Verb + 아/어/ 해 놓다 : to be in a continuous state of action
Example
네가 커피를 만들어 놓았어요 = I made coffee (ready) for you
커피 = coffee
만들다 = to make
적시다: to drench
황홀하다: to be ecstatic
Noun과 (와) Noun : noun and noun, noun with noun
빠지다 : to fall for
아/어/해 버라다 : completion of action or event where nothing remains after
시작되다 : to get started
홀리다: to be bewitched
Lyrics (한/ENG)
One shot two shot
One shot two shot
Just for one x2
가빠지는 숨소리에 높아지는 Adrenaline
이건 고작 시작인걸 알고있어 알고있어
The sound of my breath is quickening, my adrenaline is rising
I know this is only the beginning
두 눈에서 흐르는 Spangles are falling down
반짝이는 세상 그 곳에서 나를 적셔놔
황홀한 시간 속에 주인공은 너와 나
Ain’t no one, yeah nobody
From my eyes, spangles are falling down
Drenching myself in this dazzling world
The stars of this time of ecstasy is you and me
Ain’t no one, yeah nobody
빠져버린 나
모든건 이미 Perfect with you with you with you
시작된 Firework
홀려버린 이 기분에
I do I do I do
I’ve fallen
Everything is already perfect with you, with you, with you
The fireworks have started
Bewitched by this mood
I do I do I do
(One shot two shot) 나와 넌
(One shot two shot) Have some fun
우리 둘이 Just for one
Just for one x2
(One shot two shot) Me and you
(One shot two shot) Have some fun
Just us two, just for one
Just for one x2
Asking the Right Questions (1/7)
어디...?
Where...?
어디 가요? : where are you going?
어디 살아요? : Where do you live?
어디 먹을 까요? : where should we eat?
어디 가고 싶어요?
어디 있어요?
It’s possible to make sentences without location marking particles
어디 가고 싶어요?
However, using the right location marking particles serves to make the message you’re trying to put across very clear and less ambiguous.
어디에 가고 싶어요?
i have learned 한글 already but i am confused on what sources i should. i have heard about ttmik, htsk, lingodeer, korean from zero but im not sure what to use. and also do you have any tips for speaking. i’m really shy and i can’t bring myself to speak since i’m afraid of messing up. plus i don’t know much vocab and grammar. so should i get ti certain level and try to start speaking then or should i just try to start speaking now? sorry that this is so long but i really want to learn correctly.
Haha don’t worry about it being long I’m more than happy to help. I would suggest using TTMIK for grammar and vocab and getting apps like HelloTalk for practical use and using Kdrama’s for listening practice.
Also keep a daily diary in korean and voice record your entries as well to build speaking confidence. Once you’ve done that if you have kakaotalk/Line you can try voice calling with language partners you met in hello talk.
I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask 😁😁

Random Korean Word of The Day #3
스트레스
-Stress
Example
너무 스트레스를 받아서 잠을 잘 수가 없어요
- I can’t sleep because I’m so stressed out
This is literally my FAVE korean sentence structure guide.
Sentences in Korean are completely different to English and this is what can confuse most Korean learners. It is also a good reminder of what each particle is used for and where to place them within sentences (I still get confused with my particles sometimes)
I think I may have found a new favourite sentence structure resource. If you just memorise 누구 언제 어디 뭐 어떻게 하다 (Who, When, Where, What, How, Verb) you’re set for life.
