Sims In Bloom: Generation 3 Pt. 46 (The Writing On the Wall)
Lavender's trip to Tomarang continued as the weeks grew warmer, and Violet's hours with her academic program grew longer. Lavender found herself spending a lot more time alone than she expected, but it wouldn't stop her from exploring as much as she could.
She and Violet did make it out to the Sulea Tiger Sanctuary, but the tigers stayed hidden from view for most of their stroll through the jungle park.
"My mom's old vet students, Andre and Karla, are supposed to come take over this place, but it's probably not so easy securing the necessary permits from Nevada."
"I've heard time moves at its own pace in Nevada," Violet mused. "Kinda like here in Tomarang!"
By the time they left the sanctuary, Lavender fixed her disappointment by 'adopting' a tiger and joining the Cub Club.
The sanctuary might not have been Andre and Karla's yet, and she might not have seen any tigers, but she came from an animal-loving family and wouldn't think of leaving without a donation.
The girls settled into something resembling domesticity, even though they both knew these living arrangements were temporary.
Lavender was still getting used to the squat toilet in the bathroom - she always forgot not to wear socks in there first thing in the morning! But she liked getting up early to make them breakfast before Violet left for her program, and the girls would sit at the kitchen table to talk about their plans for the day.
And today was the hottest yet. "While you sweat it out in a classroom for your program, I'm heading to the beach covered in SPF 90."
"I'll text you when class is done and come find you," said Violet. "Stay hydrated."
Lavender grew up in frigid Brindleton Bay, and the Tomarang sunshine was really something else. She knew better than to mess with the heat, and she loaded herself down with two litres of water before trekking out to one of the public beaches in Koh Sahpa.
Lavender beat the heat by swimming laps in the turquoise blue bay. The water in Brindleton Bay was never this clear, and she knew the water in Evergreen Harbour's Willupette Sound wasn't great for swimming, either.
It wasn't just the heat that drove her into the water for a swim, but the novelty, and she was taking another dip when Violet found her from the shore. She grinned and swam forward, greeting her girlfriend with a kiss as the sun dried her skin almost instantly.
"How was your day?"
"Good! I'm glad they let us out early because of the heat. I saw Vanesha at the apartment when I went to get my suit, and I told her to bring her sister out to join us."
"You did?"
"Yeah, it's hot out and the fans are only so good."
"The fans in her apartment are a lot better."
"Not that good...why are you being weird about Vanesha and Zhafira? You said they're cool!"
"They are! But they're around a lot. I found a really quiet beach because I thought we'd get to be on it just the two of us."
"Well, you didn't say that."
"Like you won't say that you secretly want to stay in Tomarang?"
Violet reeled. "What are you talking about? Is this just because you're jealous of Vanesha for no reason? It's easy to tell, Lavender."
"I'm jealous of Vanesha because she sees you every day and I'm only here for six weeks! Six weeks that are almost over, by the way. Don't change the subject."
"From what?"
"From the fact that you keep buying things for your apartment as if you're never going to leave, and every time I bring up Evergreen Harbour, you have nothing to say."
"Because you keep talking about your new home...that you bought without even asking if I wanted to live in a bunch of shipping containers covered in fake grass! Are you even listening? Did you clean up the beach before I got here?"
"I..." Lavender stashed her bag of trash and focused on their conversation. "Do your parents even know you don't want to come home?"
"I didn't say I didn't. I haven't decided anything yet, Lava. I'm trying to get through the program before I make any life changing decisions. But I wasn't going to do anything without talking to you first."
"It's not like I'd force you to move there. I'd keep doing long distance."
"For how long?"
"Long enough. Longer than we've already done it, because I love you."
"I love you, too, Lava...can I take a rain check on the beach? It's too hot, and I'm not feeling great all of a sudden."
"Let's head back," Lavender said easily, and Violet smiled.
"Do you mind if I spend the evening alone? I'll find you later, I promise."
Lavender felt Violet's words like a punch to her gut. She knew the girls had been grating on each other a little in the small apartment, and their fight on the beach revealed it had to do with a lot more than just the heat.
So Lavender stayed by the shore and Violet headed back to Morensong by herself. Wandering the Night Market, she ran into Vanesha, but she felt too guilty over Lavender's jealous feelings to chat with her for long.
"I did want to tell you that Zhafira told me you want to be a DJ, and I think that's so cool. If I become an event planner, I'd book you as the entertainment all over the world."
Vanesha laughed. "If Zhafira ever figures out how to fix the electrical, I might think of leaving her alone in the apartment so I can travel around. Until then, I'm not interested in burning the place down."
The girls shared a smile as Vanesha realized she was alone. "Where's Lavender tonight?"
"Oh, she was at the beach, but it was too hot for me. She should probably be back pretty soon from Koh Sahpa."
The women parted ways and Violet texted Lavender, who was hanging out in a park not far from the house. I found some chalk and a hopscotch court, she wrote.
Violet found her and offered her a hug. "I'm sorry about earlier. I do think about staying in Tomarang sometimes, but I don't want to fight."
"I don't want to fight, either. Let's go home."
They made their way back, but Violet's next day off was grey and rainy. It was welcome after sweltering heat in the days before, but it put a dampener on their plans to bask in nature at ZoSul Taman Botani National Park.
With umbrellas in hand, they headed out, anyway, before parking themselves on a bench under a wooden gazebo with views of lush, manicured gardens leading out to the bay.
They sat in silence for a while, until Violet slowly broke the peaceful sound of rain against the roof of the gazebo.
"I wanted to talk about the other day..."
Lavender breathed a sigh of relief. "Me too, and I was thinking, I wasn't thinking about how much you love Tomarang when I found my new place in Evergreen Harbour, but I could run LavaKnits from out here. We could look for a bigger place with room for me to work, and it probably won't take me too long to sell the place I bought. It had been on the market for a while when I got it, but someone out there must think it's a cool place to live just like I did. But you mean enough to me-"
"Lavender, I...I think we should break up."
Violet's words fell heavy against her, sinking into Lavender's skin and clawing at her heart. "You...what?"
"I think I do want to stay in Tomarang after my program is done. You were right that I was thinking about it and didn't say anything. I haven't even talked about it with my parents because I thought I could just make up my mind when I was done. It's a big decision and I wanted to be really sure, but I wasn't being fair to you, either. I'm sorry."
"You're sorry? I just said I wanted to move here to be with you."
"You want to move here because you're jealous of Vanesha."
"And you breaking up with me doesn't make me feel like I have no reason to be jealous of her, for the record."
"It's not about Vanesha!" she insisted. "Lavender, I love you. I love you even though we're headed in different directions. But if there was a way for us to want such different things in the same place, maybe we wouldn't be fighting against even having this conversation."
"I don't want to fight with you, Violet. I don't want to lose you."
On the verge of tears, Violet shook her head. "I don't want to lose you, either, Lava. But we...we probably shouldn't talk for a while. I'll finish my program and let you get situated, and then maybe we can see where we are and how we feel."
Lavender felt as though part of her had been sucked into a black hole, with an endless expanse of nothingness slowly filling the empty space. "Yeah, maybe...What now?"
"Are you going to be okay to get back to the house if I go meet some friends from my program? I don't know if you want to look into changing your flight home or not, and Vanesha says you can stay on her couch for a few days if flights are too expensive."
Lavender grimaced. "You told Vanesha you were going to break up with me?"
"Lav...she's my friend. Do you think I wasn't a little bit jealous when you and Brea got matching tattoos without me? We used to be like the Three Musketeers. But I didn't make a big deal about it because it's not a big deal."
"It is a big deal if you felt left out, and I would've included you if I knew it mattered to you even a little bit!"
"Lavender, I'm sorry. I have to go meet my friends."
"Yeah, I'm sorry, too. Tell Vanesha thanks, but no thanks; I'll find a hotel if I can't change my flights, but it won't take me long to pack up and be out of your apartment."
Violet nodded solemnly as Lavender stood from the bench. It was raining harder now than when they arrived, and she buried herself, and her tears, beneath her appropriately black umbrella. ->

NOTE: The writing really has been on the wall for this one for a while, but I wasn't trying to blindside anyone with a shocking breakup. Violet's Child of the Village trait means she's unhappy whenever she's not in Tomarang; if there's a path back together for them in the future, it still felt realistic that their very young relationship (with so, so many communication errors on both sides), wouldn't survive this trip.
But a lot of high school sweethearts break up and get back together for good, so we'll have to see whether some time and distance can bring them to a good place again.
It's the first house I've built from scratch since TS2. I used a floorplan I found online, and started hyper-focusing because I really started to love it and wanted to finish. 😆
I'll show the inside when Marlena officially moves in.
Love was definitely in the air at the housewarming party! With two blossoming couples, the flirtation party requirement would be met in no time!
Except, where Chadwhick and Sequoia were going for coy smiles and flirtatious innuendo, Cinder and Quinn were taking a different approach…
Cinder could tell Quinn was in no mood for flirting, so he didn’t make any moves. Quinn was feeling guilty about bringing the party mood down. Dancing hadn’t been as much of a distraction as they’d hoped, and they were still pretty gloomy.
Cinder didn’t care about all that; Quinn could feel whatever they wanted! And Cinder would always be there as a shoulder to cry on. Even at his own celebration party.
Feeling a little left out, and sensing her boi in distress once more, Cindy decided to join the party! But she was so very smol, and not very barky, so no one noticed her arrival.
That was fine by Cindy; what better place was there to nap than right in the middle of a group of people’s legs! She sure trusted none of them to step on her while she snoozed!
Cindy’s widdle snores got Quinn’s attention, who immediately cheered up! Trying very hard to keep her excitement quiet so as not to wake the adorable little one, Quinn gushed to Cinder about what a cute dog he had! Cindy was even more adorable than the pictures Cinder had shown them!!
As everyone well knew, if there was one thing Cinder could talk about forever, it was pets! Chadwick remembered the childhood school days of Cinder talking about the family cats, and how badly he wanted his own pet. Looks like dreams could come true! With the added bonus of a sim who was interested in chatting about animals too! * insert Chadwick wingman eyebrow wiggle here *
Then out of the blue, Ella called! It was a double shocker too; firstly, that she wanted Cinder’s advice on such a big life moment! Secondly, Ella wanted kids now!! Cinder had never thought it would happen!
After giving his advice and thanking his sister for calling, Cinder turned his attention back to the party. He was looking forward to reconnecting with Chadwick after all this time!
Once everyone had finished their meal, the chatter moved to the living room. Cinder was a little rusty at speaking in a group, but he really wanted to connect to his friends!
After hearing Cinder’s life story, and seeing more of the house, Chadwick was quite impressed with our boi!
It might’ve helped that Cinder’s magical jewels from Uncle Ellis were randomly working again. He was charming the group without even trying, so they were eager to talk to him!
Well, Cinder was charming most of the group. Quinn was more interested in the now awake Cindy! They were just struggling with how to befriend the adorable pupper…
Last time Cinder had socialised with non-family (Quinn at Prom), they’d had a great time talking about dreams! So, that’s what he did with Chadwick! Except, unlike Quinn, Chadwick could not be less interested in hearing about Cinder’s dreams. Even if they were the wishes his heart made while he was fast asleep.
Chadwick was having a much better time chatting up Sequoia! They were finding a lot of common interests, ones that were not in any way dream related.
Cinder was starting to feel… odd, about the party. Why did the conversation feel so oddly stilted? Why was time dragging so strangely slowly? It had felt so easy before, with time passing too fast when he was with…. with…
Just several friendly reminders to my fellow simmers and any other Tumblr content creator:
The fact that you might not have your queue filled does not make you any less of a creator, not to mention a person.
The fact that you only have one/two/several/not as many as you'd like posts planned/queued does not make you and your content less fun and nice to share the platform with.
If you have time, ideas, and willingness to plan posts with content in advance - that's awesome, and it will certainly make you and your followers beam with joy, but everyone is just a human, and it is more than okay if you don't have time/ideas/possibility/desire to queue, or even simply post, no matter how long it takes.
You (and certainly your life, but still it’s yours!) decide on your posting frequency/basis.
Even if you are "inconsistent", or absent for any reason, there are always people who will stay and wait for you and your awesome content.
Even if someone departs for whatever reason, there will be new people around for you to create for and share all the joy and satisfaction with.
But most importantly, when you're back, be the person who you want to create for and share that joy and satisfaction with the most.
I love you guys. You are doing great, even if you're actually…not doing anything here, like, literally. You belong here, your presence matters, and your absence, no matter the reason and length, does not contradict it, even if it may sound like a paradox. It is not one, trust me.
just saw a 'comments' tab on someones blog you know where the following and likes tabs would be if enabled and it was just showing all the replies theyve made on peoples posts. this is fascinating when did this feature come out
if you've made replies on posts there is now a tab on your blog showing every post youve replied to and your reply.
if this is not what you want, either go to your blog and click comments and disable it from there or just go to your individual blogs setting pages. just change it from blue to grey if you dont want everyone to see your replies AND the post you're replying to
PLEASE BE ADVISED that it is set to disabled for blogs that have not made any replies but it will turn ON if you reply with that blog in the future.! i just tested it with my main, which was greyed out but it turned on the moment i left a test reply
figured i'd get the word out bc i have not seen a single mention of this and i'm sure there are plenty of people who maybe comment on things they don't want on display for everyone to see on their blog lol. you can still look at your replies with it toggled off just no one else can, like locking the following and likes list
so for some reason this feature was actually announced on the tumblr engineering blog. interesting choice not to reblog it to the staff or tumblr blog, esp considering they asked for user input on how to implement it, but i suppose considering the response to the last update maybe the replies would be too overwhelming...
so couple of clarifications. comments are disabled as default for primary blogs that have their likes disabled. they are seemingly enabled for all other blogs that have replied to posts
posts you comment on may show on your followers 'for you' page if you leave your replies publically available. they may, in the future, show in on your followers dashboard if your follower goes to their dash settings and enables this. apparently, if your likes are enabled, your followers can already see those on the dash if they've gone into preferences and selected to do so, which I was unaware of, and that seems to be disabled at default, but it's possible i disabled it previously and forgot about it ig
So today I was at the pharmacy waiting for a while and luckily I took the switch so I could play Animal Crossing while waiting. Anyway one of the workers asks what I'm playing when it's a quiet moment and I tell her and she goes "I'm a simmer, I play the sims" and OMG! The self control I had to exert to not just launch into how I love the game so much and play it basically every day and trade sims and stories with my friends 😂 I did tell her I play and enjoy it, I just attempted to sound... Non obsessed 🙂↕️
M: Leave it up to you to lose your virginity to an alien. [laughs] Typical!
H: [laughs] Well... kinda.
M: What do you mean, “kinda?”
H: Uhm... we've done some things—obviously—but not... that.
M: That's [pauses] weird.
H: [scoffs angrily] Fu—
M: Not weird! Not that kind of weird at all! Just... the way Raxil acts and dotes on you like he does. The dude worships you and I've never known a guy to do that to someone he isn't fucking. I mean, even when you fuck 'em, they'll still treat you like nothing, y'know?
H: What do you mean? Threx loves you, too! I've seen the look in his eyes when you walk into a room and the panic in them when you leave.
M: Yeah, but I've fucked Threx, so of course he'd be like that with me.
H: Threx isn't like that. He did those things before you two even got together. Do you really not see that?
M: I see it, I think. I'm just [sighs] having a hard time believing it.
H: I know. You haven't been with, you know, exactly good guys.
M: I think that's why I'm struggling with it so much. I mean, I fucking love him so much—and he tells me he loves me!—but it seems too good to be true. I didn't think I was capable of loving someone and I really didn't think someone could love me.
H: You are loved, Smiles. You're my best friend and I love you! Threx adores you. He's rough around the edges and he looks grumpy even when he's happy, but he's changing. I can see it. Rax said that before Threx met you, he never really smiled or laughed. I know you two are perfect for each other.
M: [sniffles, tears stinging his eyes] Fuck, Hunter, you didn't have to get all sappy on me!
H: [stays quiet for a few seconds] Threx wants his sap-py on you.
M: [lets out a choking laugh through his tears, wiping them away] What the fuck does that mean?!
H: I dunno, but it got you to laugh, didn't it?
M: You're so stupid.
H: [beams with pride, smiling wide] I know.
