the first snippet for next chapter I managed to pull together and finish editing after writers' block over the last month. 🫠 Stan and Kyle encounter a thief in Kupa Keep. It's very goofy, I'm not sorry heh
They stopped just outside the marketplace to check their purchases. Without exchanging another word, Stan sorted through the supplies in one pouch while Kyle counted their remaining coins, and once they were satisfied nothing had been lost, they tightened the drawstrings.
“Right. We should reach the inn before sunset,” said Stan. “Then tomorrow morning, we leave for Leslie’s village—”
Wham.
Someone slammed between them. A shoulder clipped Stan hard enough to knock him off balance before he caught himself.
What a dick. He tightened his grip on the pouch…
… only for his fingers to close on empty air.
Stan stared at his now empty hand. He snapped his head toward the figure that had just rushed past, already several paces down the streets, both pouches clutched in his hands.
Across from him, Kyle looked just as stunned, before his face melted into one of pure outrage.
“HEY!”
Kyle bolted after the thief.
Dammit. Stan sprinted after them.
Ahead, the thief wove gracefully through the streets, slipping between wagons, cutting behind pedestrians, without slowing for even a moment. Stan wasn’t so lucky; he nearly barrelled into an old woman balancing a basket on her hip, ducked around a merchant hauling a sack of grains, then had to skid sideways to dodge some wild child running amok in the streets.
The thief only pulled farther ahead. They were going to lose him, along with all the supplies they had just purchased, and all of their coins, and it was only their first day here in Kupa Keep, dammit dammit—
His panic came to a halt; the only warning he got was the glow racing along Kyle's staff strapped at his back, and a sudden burst of wind from behind.
Stan's stomach dropped. “KY— don't you dare—!”
Kyle launched himself into the air like he had been fired from a catapult.
The rest of Stan's shout died in his throat.
Kyle's cloak billowed behind him like a banner as he soared over a man pushing a fruit cart, over a group of startled merchants, scattered a flock of pigeons, before crashing straight into the thief.
An indignant "AARGH!" rang out across the streets.
Stan squeezed his eyes shut. Could he, as a human, pray to the Earth Spirit, and beg for it to open the ground and swallow them whole right now?
By the time he reached them, a crowd had already begun to gather. Kyle had the thief pinned flat against the ground. Nearby, both pouches had split open, their coins and apples strewn across the cobblestones. The thief couldn't have been much older than they were. A blue chullo hat sat lopsided over a mess of black hair as he glared up at Kyle; if looks could kill, both would be set ablaze by now.
Stan and Kyle!!!
no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.
fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.
