I've befriended two neighbours, and a random lady from another village who saw me on the street and invited me in for a drink; she turned out to be nice!
Most of these people are more concerned with my situation than I am, asking me how I'm planning to survive and coming up with money-related plans I end up shrugging off.
Somehow just from socializing I end up bringing home lots of food; neighbours give me all their extra cucumbers, the street-invite lady gifted me yellow rice and green beans, I've never even tried yellow rice! I ended up having a kitchen full of produce, on top of all pears and apples I already have.
I then looked for ways to return the favour; I helped the neighbours to harvest their garden, something they both were too sick to do without pain, and to the street-invite lady I brought a big bag of apples and pears, because I could see her fruit trees weren't ripening yet. She ended up gifting me even more food so now we're in the perpetual gifting cycle.
I've asked everyone if they knew where the chestnut trees were, and got all negative answers; nobody here knows of a single chestnut tree! I had two chestnut seedlings but they died, so now I really needed to find a chestnut tree.
I was thinking how due to lack of chestnuts, if I found some, they would be even more of a valuable gift because nobody here has any, and I could gift them to everyone and then they shall like me. This is where I realized I'm having a Stardew Valley experience, exploring the area just to find valuable gifts for the villagers. So that can happen in real life too. It is a fun way to live though! Having time to do things just because they might make the community happy.
