Sirius knew what he was getting into when he promised James he would help him kiss Evans at midnight. But he definitely underestimated how utterly annoying his best friend would be under the task.

Sirius rolls his eyes and chooses not to reply, opening the map and verifying everything was going as planned. There she was, walking towards the common room, with a lingering Pettigrew from behind.
âShe is coming! Evans is coming! Get into position!â He warns James in harsh whispers. He quickly folds the map back into his pocket and stands up, ready to flee the scene.
James stood petrified in place, grasping the flower with both hands.
âPadfoot, I canât do this, she will slap me Iâm so sure about it, Padfoot call the mission off dudeâ
âFor Merlinâs sake! You already kissed her you dumbass, and she didnât RUN AWAY. Take a big breath, grow some balls, and GET INTO POSITIONâ
This seems to knock some sense into his friend, he ruffles his hair for a last time, checks his breath, and whips out his signature smirk once the portrait starts to open.
âOf course it was Potterâ Evans claims, but with a soft smile drawn on her face, showing that she really didnât mind at all âa Lily? Thatâs cheesy, even for youâ
James gives her the flower anyways.
âPeter told me someone needed my help, did you really made me come all over from the party just to woo me Potter?â
âYou gotta admit Lils, itâs pretty darn romanticâ he says while softly nudging her.
There was something different about her that night, Sirius thought. Her hair was a mess, the fiery bangs she usually kept straight and tame were all over the place, but that wasnât it.
âYou could have done the SAME thing at the party doofusâ
Maybe it was her clothes, she was clearly wearing Aliceâs sweater, the green one she always uses when going on a date with Longbottom. No. That wasnât it either.
âYou didnât deny it!â James excitedly highlights âYou think it was romantic! Admit it!â
Evans laughs giddily and looks down, spinning the Lily between her fingers. Once she looks up again, Sirius realizes what was different about her that night.
Lily Evans was always looking at Jamesâ lips.
âYou know something interesting Potter?â She asks, lifting the flower and tangling it in Jamesâ hair âLilies are the flowers of midnight kissesâ
Evans gives his best friend a knowing smile, and proceeds to grab his face with both hands to kiss him profoundly.
After a few seconds, they pull apart, resting their foreheads on each otherâs, eyes closed, enjoying the sweet moment. âThatâs not the meaning of lilies, isnât it?â
âPotter, if I hadnât accelerated the process it would have taken you YEARS to kiss meâ
They both laugh, still flustered with the situation they were in. Soon enough, they lean in and start kissing again.
âMy dudes, Iâm in favor of love, but it isnât even MIDNIGHT yetâ
