Holy | Unholy part 1
A spirit of order that adored chaos.
Art trade with tosquinha - Sauron in NĂºmenor (sorry for the gore)
This was not what I had originally planned, but this is what happened.
someone's being possessive
"We may assume, then, that the idea of breeding the Orcs came from Melkor, not at first maybe so much for the provision of servants or the infantry of his wars of destruction, as for the defilement of the Children and the blasphemous mockery of the designs of Eru. The details of the accomplishment of this wickedness were, however, left mainly to the subtleties of Sauron." "When Melkor was made captive, Sauron escaped and lay hid in Middle-earth; and it can in this way be understood how the breeding of the Orcs (no doubt already begun) went on with increasing speed during the age when the Noldor dwelt in Aman; so that when they returned to Middle-earth they found it already infested with this plague, to the torment of all that dwelt there, Elves or Men or Dwarves. It was Sauron, also, who secretly repaired Angband for the help of his Master when he returned; and there the dark places underground were already manned with hosts of the Orcs before Melkor came back at last, as Morgoth the Black Enemy, and sent them forth to bring ruin upon all that was fair." This then, as it may appear, was my father's final view of the question: Orcs were bred from Men, and if 'the conception in mind of the Orcs may go far back into the night of Melkor's thought' it was Sauron who, during the ages of Melkor's captivity in Aman, brought into being the black armies that were available to his Master when he returned." (Morgoth's Ring)
Leaving this here for no particular reason except to remind myself (and everyone else) just how much the Black Foe of the World relied on Mairon — on his sharp mind, his skills, his loyalty, and relentless work. Because just imagine if his lieutenant hadn’t been there all this time!
Melkor would’ve returned to Middle-earth starting completely from zero, no army in sight, and no time to build one before the Noldor showed up. But no! Lucky for him (and deeply unlucky for everyone else), he had Mairon — he had his brilliant, hardworking husband. Isn’t that beautiful? said like I’m not talking about atrocities that should horrify any sane person
Also, I’m pretty sure Melkor never doubted Mairon. When he planned to steal the Silmarils and flee to Middle-earth, I bet he was 100% confident Mairon had everything under control
Creations pass, but Mairon’s encounter with the stranger shadows his working thoughts.
So he sends word to the dark-haired Maia’s workshop with a description and arranges to meet him at an inn. He takes up a stool, and when the other Maia arrives, swiftly orders them refreshments.
His companion too wastes no time, perhaps sensing his reluctance to begin their conversation.Â
‘Have you called me here for a reason?’ The stranger’s voice is smooth and rich, and dark like a well-caught crust of bread. Back to the window, his eyes are in shadow, but Mairon knows they are a deep brown, resinous like the sap of a tree. The light from outside sets his hair alight from behind, his dark locks and waves carding the rays into shafts over his shoulder. Dust motes dance golden between them against the wine-red walls.Â
Mairon holds his gaze for as long as it takes for him to think through his options, then dips to study his drink, thumbing the grain at the carved stem.
‘I cannot place your intentions.’
The dark-haired Maia hesitates, and Mairon’s head snaps up in time to see an unreadable expression disappear behind a wry smile. ‘Does it matter, when you know I speak true, and our minds align?’
Mairon exhales, twisting his features in return. Their exchange has not left his thoughts, and it is true he feels an affinity. ‘Regardless.’ He looks down, peering intently at his soot-stained fingers. ‘I would still know your designs. We are to inform AulĂ« of any associations with other workshops, so he can ensure our work together is aligned beneath Eru’s will.’ He steels himself to meet the Maia’s eyes. ‘I would not wish to keep our acquaintance from him. I enjoyed speaking with you in the forge. I would hope to do so again. To work together, even.’
The stranger studies him carefully, and his being seems to quicken underneath his attention.
‘Why do you think I am here?’ The Maia gestures to the stones of the inn. ‘I could have ignored your summons.’
Mairon swallows nervously. ‘I would hope it is because I can offer you something in return for your counsel. Although I do not know what.’
The Maia seems to weigh his words, now, as well as his features. He feels like he is being examined for flaws, as a stonemason would a piece of marble. Eventually, the stranger reaches into his clothes, pulls out a piece of darkened rock, and sets it on the countertop.
‘I saw how dutifully you attended to your creations.’ The Maia pushes the rock towards him, lightly scratching the varnish beneath. Mairon frowns, and reaches to rub the mark away, but the stranger catches his hand against the wood. Trapping him there against the surface. His breath catches.
‘I need to know what this is, and how to work with it.’ Mairon’s hand is freed, and he does not attempt to rub the mark again. ‘Learn all you can about this ore. I will come to your workshop in a week. Tell me then what you have learned, and no other. I cannot do it myself, but I know you will succeed.’
Mairon stares at the mysterious ore, which glints at him. His tongue sticks in his throat. But before he can clear it, the stranger is moving, long cloak swinging behind evenly paced steps. He calls out.
‘Stranger.’ He intends to reject the request, in obesience to his Vala. But instead finds himself saying, ‘What should I call you?’
The dark-haired Maia flashes a keen smile back through the doorway. In the enduring light of the Trees, Mairon marks again that his form is beautiful.Â
‘In time, Impatient One.’

"It was the apparent will and power of Melkor to effect his designs quickly and masterfully that had first attracted Sauron to him." (Morgoth's Ring)
Absolutely wild that Melkor probably didn’t even have to try that hard to "corrupt" Mairon, because that horny freak was already attracted to him.
Maybe "the seduction of Mairon" didn’t even happen the way we imagine it — maybe it was just Melkor finally noticing this little Maia following him around, and staring in awe with heart-eyes at whatever the Dark Vala happened to be doing at the moment.
Mairon's brain almost never slows. He's always thinking of three or four things at once, planning hundreds of years out. Working in the forge, fighting in battle, even sleeping. Doesn't matter. His brain is always working. Even his dreams are plans. Melkor is the only one who can make his brain slow. When Melkor is looking at him, praising him, worshipping his body, Mairon can't think of anything else.
Aulë: Melkor! How do you even sleep at night? Melkor: …Should we tell him? Mairon: We should tell him. Melkor: I’m gonna tell him. Melkor: Next to YOUR BEST SMITH, LOSER! HAHAHAHAHA!
Aulë: *Deep sighing*
Sauron is not fully evil
But I think people think this means "he was not fully devoted to Melkor while he was alive." On the contrary, his devotion to Melkor was the good within him (or a large portion of it).
No, the thing that is not fully evil about Sauron is his love and devotion. Specifically, his love and devotion to Melkor. If he were simply *using* Melkor, it would not be love and obedience and thus in the Catholic-adjacent moral framework Tolkien uses to describe things it would not be good. Because love is what comes from God and what is Good.
Here is the list of prompts for the 2025 event:
Day 1: Friend | Enemy Day 2: Freedom | Imprisonment Day 3: Temporary | Permanent Day 4: Concealment | Revelation Day 5: Holy | Unholy Day 6: Singing | Dancing Day 7: Fix it As always, there is a couple of prompts to choose between for every day of the week, with the last day being a bit more open to topics of choice. You can pick one each day, try to combine them into one work, or skip any day that offers prompts you find less appealing. Anything that reminds you of the topic of the prompt is encouraged and accepted. The only requirements are that the work is about the pairing, previously unposted, made by you, and that you tag things correctly if your works include sensitive subjects or are adult in nature. Anything written, visual, auditory, or any combination thereof goes.
When posting your works, feel free to post them on the day the prompt appears on or later, tag us directly or add one of the following tags (#angbangweek2025, #angbang week 2025, #angbang week2025) to your post's tag list. For any questions or clarification requests, feel free to reach out at any time.
Happy creating, and we'll see you in May!

What I see: "THE SEDUCTION OF MAIRON" LESBIAN ANGBANG EDITION
Sins of a father
Day two of @feanorianweek
Melkor, unbuttoning his shirt: there are certain... benefits to being on my side
Feanor: are you trying to seduce me into the ways of evil?
Melkor: is it working?
Feanor: no. Should it?
Melkor, insulted: it worked well enough on Mairon
