It's no miracle, but this might help...
How many times have you looked up from your phone thinking, “I should be doing something,” and then… kept doomscrolling?
I wanted my account to stay focused on Legends, but this felt important to share because it’s been a huge struggle for me for years.
My loop was this:
Instant gratification → Guilt for not being productive → Feeling overwhelmed + fear of failing → More instant gratification.
Rinse, repeat.
It got so bad that sometimes I’d just lie in bed crying because I knew I was avoiding life — and then immediately go numb myself again with social media or AI content because it felt better in the moment.
I thought this meant I was lazy. Or apathetic. But the truth is: people who are lazy don’t beat themselves up about wanting to be productive. I did care. Maybe too much.
It turns out it is a neurobiological stress-avoidance response. My brain was just trying to protect me. The problem was that even the tiniest task started to feel like too much effort.
LET 👏 YOUR 👏 BRAIN 👏 VIBRATE 👏
Instead of forcing yourself into a task immediately (which only makes the resistance worse), do this:
Stand up.
Do absolutely nothing.
Let your brain scream: “NOOOO I DON’T WANNA—”
Make it funny if you can. Visualize your brain vibrating like:
a shaken soda can about to explode
a toddler throwing a tantrum
If not, that's okay. Just don’t jump to self-loathing (also makes resistance worse). Don’t judge the feeling. Just let yourself be irritated or whiny or overwhelmed. That’s part of the transition — not a character flaw.
And then…
Oh. It stopped.
Once your brain burns off that initial resistance, then you can start the task. Letting your brain vibrate doesn’t do the task for you, but it makes the shift into momentum so much smoother.
From there, use the classic advice:
Just start.
Break the task into tiny steps.
Do it for 30 seconds.
Most of the time, you’ll keep going because you’ve created new momentum.
And if you still can’t? That’s okay. You can stop and try again later. Or push through if it’s something with a deadline — sometimes life just demands things. :/
Adding something positive helps too:
Music while cleaning. Ambient tracks while studying. Little rituals that make the task feel less like a punishment. (My sisters and I sing songs while folding the laundry. It's so much fun!)
There’s no magical fix that makes productivity effortless. But if you struggle to get out of your own rut, maybe this will help you the way it’s helped me.
Let your brain vibrate. Then choose the next step.
