Ixtab by *schwarzer-todt
“Ixtab, Goddess of the Rope. Mayan goddess and guardian of suicides. Associated with the eclipse, she guides the souls of those who have killed themselves, as well as women who die in childbirth, victims of sacrifice, priests, and slain warriors to the afterlife.”
I found it very comforting as a young person to know there was a goddess whose chief charge was suicides. So many people in the Pagan community were so anti-suicide - which sounds good, and is well-meant, but it totally ostracises and alienates people who have thoughts of suicide. I mean it’s one thing to have a part of you that constantly wants you to die but when you’re also surrounded by people who condemn those thoughts you can’t help having, that just makes you feel worse. Some people even spoke as if it would send you somewhere spiritually awful, afterlife-wise, like some dreadful sin. Because nothing makes you feel better about desperately wanting to die - or desperately NOT wanting to, and being terrified that your brain might kill you anyway - than 95% of society condemning you for it.
A LITTLE FUCKING COMPASSION, PEOPLE.
But then! There was IXTAB. Psychopomp of suicides. So even if the whole world rejected you, even after your death, Ixtab would not. The very idea of Ixtab can make the world seem less awful.
(P.S. it would probably be best if you didn’t kill yourself. Try hard not to.)
