A Writeblr Introduction: @lend-your-lungs-to-me
Hello hello! I’m Delaney, a hyperactive knucklehead whose activity in the writeblr community can be described as “sporadic at best” most of the time. This is a reintroduction, really, but it’s been so long since I posted anything writeblr-related that I figured it was time for a refresher.
A bit about me:
I’m 22, and my pronouns are she/they
I’ve had this blog for five years (wow!) and been a semi-active part of writeblr for the last three or so
I’m a bartender and unfortunately this greatly affects my sleep schedule, daily routine, and overall perception of the public
When I’m not writing, I enjoy video games, reading, and agonizing over inaccurate costuming in period dramas and romances.
But writing is the important part, and that’s why we’re here. Here are my WIPs as they currently stand:
The Lady Dressed in Blood: dark fantasy/romance, first draft in progress (current project, NaNo 2022 project)
Born with the power to mold the flesh of living things both human and animal, Sevka is an Astara—or star-witch—in a time and place where magic is a curse, not a gift. By law in the Alabaster Imperium, all Astari are the personal property of the Emperor, but Sevka bears a curse placed by her long-dead mother — an Astara herself — that prevents her from leaving the remote mountain village she calls home. Caught between an unbreakable curse and the law of the realm, Sevka poses as a mundane healer to keep her power a secret, and hides from both the realm’s Enforcers and the villagers in her midst, lest they build a pyre to burn her on. When a military incursion destroys her village and forces her to reveal her true nature, Sevka is discovered by the one man who can break the curse her mother left her, and taken to the Snow Palace to serve amongst the most powerful Astari in the Imperium. But a gilded cage is still a cage, and the luxuries of the palace cannot hide the Emperor’s intent to use his Astari as living weapons in his quest to spread the Imperium’s dominion across the world. The only one who rises in resistance to the Emperor’s will is his own bastard son, an Astara who commands the skies and brings kingdoms to their knees singlehandedly. With the bastard prince’s dire warnings in her ear, and the weight of the realm on her back, Sevka must choose a side, but both sides will end in blood and war. That’s how the story always goes, isn’t it?
Unholy Holy Things: dark steampunk fantasy/horror, third draft in progress (on hiatus)
In a world where divinity is dead, humanity rules, building empires with power stolen from what was once divine. More than two thousand years after the people of the world of Valeros overthrew their tyrannical gods and claimed freedom for themselves, the Odisian Empire is on the verge of chaos. The Emperor is dying and has no clear heir. Rebellion brews in the shadows. The Imperial Army fights a pointless war of attrition with one of the Empire’s southern neighbours that drains both the Empire’s coffers and the spirits of its people.
In the Imperial Court, two of the Emperor’s children vie for her throne while a foreign prince relies on his wits to escape an arranged marriage and ensure his people’s lasting freedom. The scorned son of an adulterous lord struggles to find a place in a world that demands the divine power he was born without, while a spy navigates the jaws of the Imperial Court with the intent to bring it down from the inside. In the darkness, the empty vessel of a murderous god walks a vengeful path that will see the Empire run red with blood.
Amidst the discovery of a forgotten world, forbidden magic, and a being more ancient than even the long-dead gods, these six get caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse. To the victor goes the spoils—but all will bleed before the game is through.
These are my main projects at the moment, though I do have a couple others that I’ve left up on the blog since I’ve posted a lot about them even though they’re both currently shelved for the forseeable future. I am a part of a couple different writing servers on discord (though I’m not always the most active, oops) and I’m on tumblr pretty regularly, so feel free to reach out to me on either platform!
That being said, I’m also looking for more writeblrs to follow now that I’m back in the game. I’m particularly interested in fantasy of all sorts but especially dark or epic fantasy, romances, anything with bitch idiot (bisexual) characters, and cool unique worldbuilding. Tell me a bit about yourself in the tags and I’ll check you out!
