I really wanted to do an animatic to a song, and this one by AJJ made me think of a pre-M9 Nott so much (seriously, some of the lyrics fit Nott so well??) I learned a lot about how to do little video editing things, and that was a lot of fun- thereâs stuff Iâd tweak up a bit if I had to do it again, but all in all very glad I finished it.

Meet a new OC- Brist. Iâve been sitting on these sketches for months now and decided to just post what I had. I have, like, a bazillion ideas for this world and her backstory, but just a couple notes under the cut!
In this desert world, there is a set of powerful, ancient Stones that house enormous power in the form of massive astral projected animals. These stones actually weld with a host in a symbiotic relationship where they both give and take energy (hence calling this story âStoneweldedâ for now). Brist is one of these hosts.
Funny enough, even though sheâs definitely the character Iâve doodled the most so far, sheâs not the protagonist. Sheâs more of a sympathetic villain. Iâm not quite settled on her backstory yet, but some points I have nailed down:
-Most of these Stones are in the possession of ancient families, powerful governments, or devout religious orders
-Brist is extremely unusual because she literally came out of nowhere with the Felidae Stone- she wasnât from some powerful order or family (in fact, she was an orphan scavenger). She was also a child when she became Stonewelded, which is typically a role reserved for trusted adults in more traditional Stoneweld situations.
-Going from literally having no power to suddenly having so much power did a number on her ego. She spent the next years being a bandit and taking whatever she wanted. She wasnât sadistic, but she could be cruel and loved exercising her powers
-One day, people realize they havenât heard about any new raids by the Stonewelded Lioness Bandit for awhile. Nice, can travel safely again. Then, to everyoneâs shock, she suddenly shows up as an official attendant to the Ancient and Honorable Family Accipitridae (Wielders of the Accipitridae Stone). After this she goes by Felid- the traditional name for holder of the Felidae Stone. No one is quite sure what made her go from a fierce, independent bandit to basically a lap dog for High Mistress Accipitri, but for a girl once known for her fiendish smile and brutish laugh, she is surprisingly somber and timid when sheâs around Accipitri. Well, the High Mistress isnât exactly known for her kindness, and perhaps a bruiser like Felid is just what Accipitri needs to finish conquering the rest of the desert subcontinent and find the rest of the StonesâŚÂ
The âMountain Phoenixâ is a subspecies of the phoenix primarily found in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Mountain Phoenixes emit a steady light which is used for locating other species members in the vast mountain range. Though not aggressive, Mountain Phoenixes are able to glow intensely enough to cause retinal damage when threatened. Like all phoenixes, the Mountain Phoenix is able to regenerate when gravely injured, but is noted to have a particularly strong light emission during the rebirth process paired with a relatively low release of heat.
Deep in the deserts of Utah, there lives a massive lizard known as the âOasis Dragonâ. Known to lie still for days at a time, its bright green coloring tricks desert animals into gathering around it in hopes of finding vegetation and water. When enough prey have gathered, the Oasis Dragon sweeps them up into its maw in a decisive strike. In the past the Oasis Dragon was hunted for its gem-like scales, although they quickly lose their impressive sheen after removal from the lizardâs body.

It used to embarrass me so much to look back at old art. It still does (and probably always will), but now I also kind of like it. I think Iâve improved in certain (mostly subtle) ways, and I get the chance to reflect on where I was in my life during those months. Good luck and best wishes for 2018!
I got a set of watercolor pencils as my secret santa gift (my gift-giver absolutely had me pegged). This is my second attempt at using them- they are a lot of fun!

Atria, my perennial petunia of an original character.
I mentioned in this post that Atria gets stronger if she stays in the mountains for long periods of time as her body absorbs more of the mineral in this world called col. Another side effect of long-term exposure is that she physically begins to take on more dâvline characteristics as well (permanent purple veins, ashier skin, etc). This is what she would look like after a couple months of constant exposure to col. On the plus side, it means she becomes stronger and more resistant to cold (hence the dâvline styled summer-in-the-snow outfit). On the downside, she canât recognize herself in a mirror and more strongly resembles the man who destroyed her village, has terrorized her people, and she has made her sworn destiny to destroy (so, you know, ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ)
When it comes to pure strength, Atria never quite catches up to full-blown dâvline, though. So when she gets forced to fight in the political arena (which, for dâvline, is literally a battle arena), she has to win by being quicker and more agile. That means she has to drop her great sword, Malbringer, in favor of a lighter weapons like daggers. Honestly it was a crappy sword anyway. Her father wouldnât have left it behind if it was actually valuable. Oddly enough, though, Atria feels kind of bad about being forced to not use it anymore (even though it belonged to her father and she hates him). The Malbringer had seen her through many adventures and battles and, even though it was crudely made, she had grown comfortable with it. Iâm thinking that for narrative symmetry, when it comes time for her to make her final stand in the dâvline court, she ends up having no choice but to wield Malbringer again.
