no but seriously I feel as though Tomino was obsessively stuck with his war trauma (he was 4 when the USA bombed his town after Japan surrendered), and it was resurfaced when the textbook debate started (right around the time he started drafting Mobile Suit Gundam), and it wasn't until he was finally able to tell the story that he told in the 2nd movie that he felt could move on. Xabungle and Dunbine, works made directly after, are much less tinged with his usual preoccupation with the war memory.

I will always say that the exploration of themes of Mobile Suit Gundam is not completed just in Zeta, ZZ and CCA, but it is preliminarily completed in Ideon, and from there, Tomino was able to move onto telling a narrative about Japan after WW2.
