24 weeks now, everything seems to be going okay so far (touch wood). Had my first growth scan and they are a little on the small side (25th centile) but not worryingly so, I guess we’ll see how things go. Applied for my maternity leave today which made things feel very real!

I love asking people how their parents met. You always get an interesting reply. My best friend’s parents met on the relatively new internet in 1999. My other friend’s parents met at Burger King when one was the manager and the other was a regular customer. My parents met at the beach because they were neighbors in their rental houses, mom was on a church trip and dad was getting blackout drunk every night with his friends next door.

Something else funny about the scan on Friday is that despite everything else being quite average this baby has a femur length on the 87th centile. There was one scan early on where they were trying to get measurements and all we could see was this long spindly pair of legs, so I guess that makes sense now.

Very chaotic anatomy scan yesterday which involved the fire alarm going off halfway through. We got evacuated to the maternity ward and then when we came back he wouldn’t show his face to let them check for cleft lip. He is actually pushing it into the placenta in these pictures, it gets funnier every time I look at them. I have to go back next week so they can try again - I am getting chaotic vibes from this child.

Apparently I have an anterior placenta again this time but I can definitely feel more movement than with R. Someone asked if it was ‘flutters’ but it feels more like thumps! I’m wondering if this baby has managed to get themselves into a better position than R so might grow better/be more active, I guess we will see…

Baby #2 is a boy! I wasn’t sure because this pregnancy has felt quite different (but I am literally 5 years older). Very excited to reuse R’s extensive wardrobe that he’s accumulated over the years. We took him to the scan and he kept waving at the baby 🥹 he was quite keen on the idea of a sister but he doesn’t seem too disappointed. Afterwards we had a very cute afternoon tea, they did a kids version and he asked when we could go back there as soon as he finished.

i think the luckiest moment of my life - at least, the luckiest moment i'm aware of & can remember - was when i poured HOURS of wrist-grinding labor into nålbinding baby socks with no pattern & vague measurements pirated off a machine-made baby sock, and they turned out weirdly long and skinny. and then the baby was born with such weirdly long and skinny feet that the only socks that fit him were the ones i made. what a very specific little lottery to win.

I think that when you're overstimulated you should appear kind of grayed out and no one should be able to interact with you like a locked character in a video game

Today I met the obstetrician who was the nicest and most chilled obstetrician I have encountered (and I have met quite a lot through work). I had to have an unexpected cervical length scan 🥴 but that was all good and I got to see the baby who was as active as ever. If they grow well and are over the 10th centile I can have an elective section at our local hospital, otherwise VBAC or section would be the big maternity hospital 70 miles away (it’s complicated), so here’s hoping.
