Ninhursag - Earth Mother Goddess, Goddess of Fertility
Ninhursag, also known as Damgalnuna and Ninmah (“Great Queen”), is the Sumerian mother goddess, who was associated with agricultural fertility. Many of the gods are her offspring, and many mortal rulers claimed her as their mother as well. She is also Enki’s primary consort.
In the legend of Enki and Ninhursag, Ninhursag gave birth to a daughter, Ninsar (“Lady Greenery”) by Enki. Enki raped the daughter, and Ninsar gave birth to a daughter Ninkurra (“Lady of the Pasture”). Enki raped her, and the result was that she gave birth to a succession of daughters, each of whom was raped by Enki. And Ninkurra gave birth to a daughter named Uttu (“Lady of the Weaver”).
Enki then pursued Uttu, who was upset because he didn’t care for her. Uttu, on Ninhursag’s advice buried Enki’s seed in the earth, whereupon eight plants (the very first) sprung up. Enki, seeing the plants, ate them, and became ill in eight organs of his body. Ninhursag cured him, taking the plants into her body and giving birth to eight deities.
In the text ‘Creator of the Hoe’, she completed the birth of mankind after the heads had been uncovered by Enki’s hoe.
In creation texts, Ninmah (another name for Ninhursag) acts as a midwife whilst the mother goddess Nammu makes different kinds of human individuals from lumps of clay at a feast given by Enki to celebrate the creation of humankind.
Ninhursag’s main temple was the E-Mah in Adab, but she was also associated with the city of Kesh, and she is sometimes referred to as the “Belet-Ili (Akkadian: Lady among the gods) of Kesh” or “she of Kesh”. One of her main symbols is a divine emblem resembling the later Greek letter omega.

ニンフルサグ（ダムガルヌンナ、ニンマー：’偉大なる女王’とも呼ばれる）はシュメールの母なる女神であり、農業の豊饒さと関連していた。多くの神々はニンフルサグの子孫であり、多くの人間の支配者もニンフルサグを母とした。また、エンキの主要な伴侶でもある。
エンキとニンフルサグの伝説では、ニンフルサグはエンキの間に娘のニンサル（緑の女）を産んだ。エンキがその娘を犯し、ニンサルは娘のニンクルラ（牧草地の女）を産んだ。その娘をエンキが犯し、その結果、娘が次々と生まれ、それぞれがエンキに犯される。そして、ニンクルラはウトゥ（糸を紡ぐ女）という娘を産んだ。
エンキはウトゥを追いかけたが、ウトゥは自分を大切にしてくれないと憤慨した。ウトゥはニンフルサグの助言で、エンキの種を土に埋めると、最初の植物である8つの植物が生えてきたという。エンキはその植物を見て食べてしまい、体の八つの器官が病気になってしまいました。ニンフルサグは彼を治療し、植物を自分の体に取り込み、8人の神々を生んだ。
「鍬（すき）の創造主」という文書では、エンキの鍬（すき）によって頭部が暴かれた後、彼女は人類の誕生を完成させた。
創造の文書では、ニンマ（ニンフルサグの別称）が助産師の役割を果たし、エンキが人類の創造を祝うために与えた饗宴（きょうえん）で、母なる女神ナンムが粘土の塊からさまざまな種類の人間を作っている。
ニンフルサグの主な神殿はアダブのエマフ寺院だったが、彼女はケシュの町とも関係があり、「ケケシュのベレト・イリー（アッカド語で、神々のなかの貴婦人の意 ）」または「ケシュの娘」と呼ばれることもある。彼女の主要なシンボルの1つは、後のギリシャ文字オメガに似た神の紋章である。
