Thinking about this. May be Onigumo is the reincarnation of the man who wanted Midoriko. I don't think Kikyou can be Midoriko's reincarnation because well Midoriko exists already in the jewel.

The Jewel may possibly not have wanted Kikyo in it, but Naraku definitely did, settling for Kagome as a substitute as having her trapped forever in battle with him is the closest he'd ever get to being with Kikyo.

Yup. Takahashi pretty much said as much. I read a post recently that pretty much confirmed my view of RT. She's unpleasant and meanspirited. So I'm not surprised she'd "character tease" so to speak just to make some money from fans who are nostaligizing.

Though I guess I have some hope from Sumisawa. Mostly because I think the episodes he did in the original were decent.

Part of what I like abt Kikyo is that she’s an unapologetically complex character who is both good and bad like she’s also compassionate, and helps children, and when she saw Enju her immediate response was to help her, and she cared about and empathized with Suikotsu, and took care of a horrible man out of pure kindness, but she’s also cold and merciless when she needs to be, and she does some very selfish stuff, and she lies, and she belittles people, and she knows how terrifying she is as an opponent and uses it to her advantage and anyway I love that Kikyo is so nuanced and I would die for her

Except her negative actions are only there for shallow shock value. The author spends the whole time acting like they have no consequences or implications.

A complex character is not just "doing bad things". "Bad things" are meaningless if they have no impact. Kikyou gives the jewel to Naraku. Everyone acts like its no big deal even if that makes other characters like Sango and Miroku goddamn OOC.

Kikyou plays zero role in defeating Naraku. Everyone acts like her plan was genius when it was a collosal waste of every one's times and caused unnecessary deaths.

Kikyou murders two people and attempts to murder Kagome. Conveniently NO ONE ever finds out about this.

Kikyou dies giving the jewel to Naraku puttjg everyone in danger and all the characters spend time crying for her instead of being ambiguous about the actual impact of her actions on them and their loved ones.

1. Inuyasha can tell them apart. There was a whole chapter where he said he did not see Kagome as Kikyou.

2. This whole thing was dumb af. Inuyasha was already fighting the monster before Kikyou got her dumbass there. Her being there made no difference to his decision to fight. It only led to him saying he would protect her and then he ended up protecting up Kagome instead leaving Kikyou to drown lol.

3. Kikyou gave Naraku a new body for no reason. And Kagome said some bs about Kikyou doing it to protect Inuyasha. When that wasn't the case. So basically Inuyasha belivies a lie about Kikyou and he will never find out the truth.

4. The knowledge that "Kikyou protected him" makes no difference to his actions later on. He will still leave her in Naraku's lair to go to Kagome.

Inuyasha cries for Kikyou after leaving her to be targetted by Naraku without even a fire rat to protect her when her body was falling apart.

This pairing is truly so cheap insincere and shallow. Nothing is earned.

PS: This isn't even the first time he has failed to protect Kikyou because he wasn't there when she needed him. He knew what he had to do to protect her. And he wasn't willing to do it.

I'm not sure why Takahashi expects viewers to leave their brain at home and cry for such dishonest writing.

Biggest asspull of all time. Someone please explain to me why she didn't just give him the light to begin with if it was so easy. Why cause Sango all that pain. Why give Kohaku suicidal tendencies and ENCOURAGE those suicidal tendencies? Oh because she wanted her revenge? And as long as she wanted it, saving Kohaku was not important?

And she only saved Kohaku once her soul already attained peace (i.e. Kagome purified her despite the fact Kikyou never apologized for her shitty actions and behaviour) ?

Yeah. This is not a "redemption" for a character who sacrificed thousands for shitty plan that wasn't even necessary.

Kikyou's ~warmth~ came after she ruined Kagome's work, talked down to/bullied Kagome, did not apologize to her, and gave the jewel to Naraku leaving Kagome to clean her mess. Not to mention she did not even bother to help Kagome or train her to use her powers.

To answer your question, Kikyou had the choice to make a positive impact but she CHOSE to make a negative impact instead.

She accused and guiltripped Inuyasha because that's the ONLY way she could get anything out of him. For that reason, she made no attempts to help him heal or remove his guilt.

Same with Kagome. Instead of responding positively to Kagome's civility and kindness, she only offered cutting remarks including when Kagome was going on a test of character to save stupid Kikysye. She undid her work, never apologized, and neglected to train her.

Inuyasha and Kagome achieved their happiness despite her existence. That's a fact no one in the fandom wants to acknowledge. Kikyou was a garbage person whose ugly deeds were giftwrapped in a pretty package.

Because Kagome stuck around and acknowledged her mistake while Takahashi's fartbaby made the same mistake over and over again and saw all the destruction that Naraku caused AND STILL GAVE HIM THE JEWEK FOR A THIRD TIME.

The only thing Inuyasha owes to Kikyou is the idea that he is a terrible person who deserves to die and have no happiness in his life at all because she died because of him and "bought" his life as a commodity to do with as she pleased. And she did shitall in all the time she had to clear his misconception.
