The Great Wave On AT-5 (Iron Lung fanarty redraw of The Great Wave Off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai)
thing thats good: yay
thing thats bad: aww
thing that has both genuinely amazing pieces of storytelling and abysmal dogshit slop both happening like entirely interchangably:
looking back All I Am was pretty accurate ? i made the song based on what we knew so its nice to see it ended up being right yippie!!
I really feel like this fanbase doesn’t give Caine’s writing enough credit. Sympathetic antagonists can so often fall too extremely on either side where either their crimes seem downplayed for pity points or they’re so evil you forget they were intended to be sympathetic in the first place and Caine somehow strikes this balance perfectly. He’s simultaneously a neglected child desperately crying out for attention, an artist going through a crippling amount of burnout and a megalomaniacal tyrant who needs to satiate his bruised ego at every opportunity but none of those traits ever feel like they contradict each other despite how drastically different they seem on the surface. And though he definitely is victim to bad faith interpretations I feel like him being as divisive as he is is overall a showcase of how good his writing is because neither loving him or loathing him feel like ‘wrong’ options, because it’s so easy to feel both towards him. He’s wretched and incredibly frustrating to watch. He is also immensely pitiable and tragic.
Pelo, are you aware that the finale of the amazing digital circus was leaked?

(I got it done before June yay yay yippee!!!)
"why can't they just be friends?" not in the homophobic sense, but in the "in your need to center romance in everything you are missing the whole point of the media in question" sense
actually creators can be wrong about their characters sometimes. for example sometimes a creator thinks their character has blue eyes
💥The One Who's Running the Show💥
Sometimes I find myself thinking just... why the show seems to be so adamant on keeping Caine and Pomni away from one another. Like, I dunno.
It's just so... weird to make the main antagonist and the main protagonist barely interact as if their conversations are just meeting a designated quota, and then boom! Job done. We can pat ourselves on the back with this one.
Now keep them as far away from each other as possible.
We're not able to prod deeper at how their psyches work when interacting with one another enough, because all we get are literal crumbs. Zooble and Caine has more interactions than they ever do, which is just so imbalanced. And this is a problem that also extends to Kinger, however-- Kinger isn't exactly as big of a problem, as he is not a main protagonist, he's just a supporting character.
He's relevant, but not to the point where he needs to steal the spotlight.
That's a bad sign when it comes to a show that's supposed to be a character-driven narrative if you can't even make a compelling, canon reasoning why the main protag and the antag just refuse to have a one-to-one interaction, because... they're supposed to carry the show with their roles.
It's not about how "unrealistic" it is, it's about a concerning amount of narrative dissonance that this show tends to have, like the sudden shift of Jax from a supporting antagonist, to main protagonist.
I genuinely believe it may have been because they thought if Pomni and Caine built any sort of rapport, the Caine crashout would not be able to happen.
When. No, btw, Caine is very insistent in doing things his own way (he wants the humans to be happy but he also wants them to be happy because of HIM) -> him rejecting the suggestion box because it wasn’t him who conceptualized those adventures despite still being the one to make the maps and models and allat stuff. He wants all the credit because he wants to be validated, leading him to have this sort of stubbornness.
So, despite hypothetically Pomni trying to influence Caine and bring out his humanity, it would still take a great deal of getting through what with how Caine is. So episode 7-8 would still be just fine.
They probably could’ve made their dynamic something like how Zooble and Caine’s was in their therapy session, with Pomni trying to talk some sense into Caine and Caine going lalalala POMNI LOOK AT THIS COOL BEE I DREW!!!!!
And with Kinger, half the time he’s not even lucid to hold a proper conversation. I still think he actively chooses to remain in that state because he cannot handle the guilt weighing down on his thoughts.
Lowkey though, episode 4 would’ve been a great place to fit a Kinger-Caine convo since Kinger went on a whole solo adventure…
That's such a silly thought, tbh. Not everything can be fixed with just one conversation, there NEEDS to be a build up. Steps need to be laid down in order to reach the top of the issue, dismantle it, and rebuild anew.
It's already pretty clear by the canon that these two have way too differing personalities that would most definitely lead to some sort of frustration, because they cannot find a middle ground to stand on-- like ending up on a stalemate. In fact, there's a LOT of opportunities for a deeper exploration on how life as we know it in the circus to be IF the show chose to make them clash.
Choosing to be stuck on the past and hoping to find a way out, or adapting to the situation, as humans inevitably do.
Nothing philosophical that's deeper than a puddle is ever explored in this show, even though it's about characters living in a world where they can't die, they can't sleep, they can't experience life's joys like they used to, and they aren't even in their real, familiar bodies anymore. Where is the psychological in this horror, and why are we not allowed to go deeper than the skin?
They, alongside Kinger as the creator, would've been such a good segue for the thought-provoking aspects of living inside a digital realm, trapped as a prisoner, with an Artificial Intelligence that gained not just sentience but became sapient and recognizes it's situation, but lacks the insight needed to be fully aware... But we just... never get to see it.
Things escalate before there's even a sliver of a chance and I HATE that we don't get to pick that philosphy apart. We are just expected to follow what the characters are eventually going to do, because "you won't know what they'll do next!".
love how when i get a new interest, i’m like “oh god it’s happening again” and i’m stuck like that for about a week until everything explodes and any interest i’ve had prior is completely dwarfed for an unknown amount of time
like this
ok gamers i've finally locked in and no longer hate everything i do with a burning passion, now my lines don't look restrained as hell
before anyone says anything I actually don't ship them, nor headcanon them as father and son, hell idk if I'd even consider them friends, so don't expect anything like that from me
kinger in this is checking up on him moreso out of concern for himself and others rather than caine, doesn't mean he's completely inconsiderate of his well-being though, at least not intentionally
so obviously i'm gonna abuse that at caine's expense-
cat caine AU originally by @/katzebruh
I will say I don’t think I’ll ever understand the writing choice of making Jax’s arc the center spotlight when Caine is literally the Circus itself but then again I am incredibly biased
