Also, not to be petty on main, but can we now at least agree that we were right when we said the lack of Armand content in promo was because there was going to be very little actual Armand in this season?

i genuinely can't fw an armand despiser. hater, maybe, because i think all tvc characters are hateable (minus claudia and madeleine) but i simply cannot fuck with you if you refuse to understand and empathize with armand and his struggles on a deeper level.

saying "he's just evil" is such an insult to the character himself as well as those working hard to write him as a complex and multifaceted vampire.

if you can understand louis or lestat on an emotional level, but refuse to do the same for armand, you unfortunately do not meet my standards of someone i can converse with.

Genuinely, I don't know how people are being serious when they claim the SA trauma this season is super deep genius writing when both Gabrielle and Magnus (& their impact on Lestat) were excised from any complexity and reduced to generic, 2D villainy. What we have is just another pop culture framing of SA, waving its hands in front of the audience "this is bad! a bad thing!" as if we were too stupid to figure that out. There are no thematic risks being taken, there is no challenging message, there is nothing interesting being said. And the thing is, the gothic characterization was ALL laid out in the source material, yet the writer's room just went "we don't need all that". In a gothic fiction adaptation.

That line in S1 is a reference to the 1811 German Coast Uprising. America’s largest slave revolt, which was in Louisiana along the river road known as the “German Coast” because of the number of Germans who settled there. 100s of enslaved people participated in this revolt.

It just so happened that this was the location of the Pointe du Lac plantation in the books, and that Anne Rice based the story of Louis’ slaves revolting against the vampires on that historical event (she used a lot of real-world historical events as inspiration for analogous events in her novels).

Anne had Louis murder his overseer and appoint one of his slaves (Daniel) as the new overseer. Daniel (not Molloy) turned out to be very clever and good at the job, but he figures out that Louis and Lestat are vampires and leads a rebellion they end up having to flee from. The real German Coast uprising was led by Charles Deslondes, an enslaved man who was the overseer of a plantation.

Unlike many of the other leaders, Charles did not get decapitated. Instead, he was dismembered, shot, and burned. Many of the other leaders had their heads put on pikes and displayed along the Mississippi River as a warning to future would-be rebels. There is a memorial to them at the Whitney Plantation - a closed garden in which silence must be observed.

feeling emotional bc as much as armand postured he never loved louis it’s so obvious that he was putting a mask on and all he really wanted was to be loved and he wanted to be given that and because he wasn’t he was cruel and vicious and tortured louis for not giving him what he needed.

and in the end louis said yes, I didn’t love you, you should be cradled, I’m sorry, I know what happened to you, I know how bad it was, we should’ve tried to understand each other. and that’s why armand cried, really, bc louis never saw him and finally in that moment in the most horrific of circumstances he did.

the scene only added to the sense that loumand tried over and over to love each other circling this horrific lie but in the end they were just playing roles. and as much as armand wants to punish louis for that it was never really louis’ fault. they were built on nothing, they were on a foundation of lies, but how glorious that in the wreckage they had that moment.

on the verge of death, tortured and traumatised, louis said I can see you. and armand, a vengeful god, forgave him. he healed regina’s wound. he set her free with a minor threat. he left louis alive.

and how beautiful that through all the harm they’ve done to each other they were able to find a connection in their worst moments. because that’s what they’ve always done. they’ve always hurt each other. armand has always abused louis in the name of love and finally it breaks apart to reveal this awful messy center.

so I don’t think loumand has been retconned or that it is over. I think it is more beautiful than before. I think it has had the closure we weren’t given. and now, at last, armand is free to find a love that cradles him, and louis is free from his control.

Yeah, sure, yes to all of this; AND there were deliberate choices made this season to show Black people experience violence and abuse, while queer romance is off screen and implied. They really said “this is what we most want you to see.”

fully insane theyre gonna drag jacob and assad out for a panel at sdcc like what on earth are they supposed to say they got some of the worst fucking scripts baffling character choices jacob had to be talked into and were sidelined for most of the season like... and tho im sure the majority of fans that turn out for this will be the ones that think this season was a masterpiece or whatever the types of fans that will want to turn out to see jacob or assad specifically probably have not a single good word to say about the season like... is some crazy armand fan gonna get on the mic and tell rolin to kill himself?
