God is with you. Even when you don't feel Him. Even when you feel abandoned, lonely, forgotten. Always remember that He is there, next to you, holding your hand, guiding you through the dark, guiding you through the deepest waters. He will not let you drown. He will not let you go sightless forever.
Just a reminder that the US has only been safe for Catholics to exist in for about 62 years.
There used to be religious tests. Catholics used to be barred legally from having Mass and other public displays of faith. People were denied housing, employment, healthcare, and education if they were Catholic.
People viewed Catholics as sub-human, devil spawn, etc. Of course this is primarily in reference to the Irish and Italian immigrants of the Ellis Island era, but still my point stands.
The USA, as long as White Christian Nationalism exists, can never and will never exist because we all know that the people in the government favour only one kind of Christian, and its not the Catholics.

Regarding the depictions of Catholic immigrants within denigrating political cartoons from the early and mid-19th century.
I look up to Mary Magdalene so much. The disciples' disciple. She was so cool. I have so many instances where I have asked for her prayers for forgiveness, for deep, true forgiveness. Jesus forgave her and loved her as if she was any other person. Because Jesus loved everyone the same, the sinners, the prostitutes, the lepers, etc. He loved everyone. Mary Magdalene was, in my opinion, one of His true disciples. She loved Him deeply, she was the first to His tomb.
I strive to be like Mary Magdalene. She was amazing.
It seems there’s some strong contenders here. After review I also thought of St. Peter Martyr being struck on the head by an assassin and writing “Credo in unum Deum” with his own blood on the ground, as well as St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows scaring off bandits with his handgun skills. I would like to add to St. Lawrence's execution the reason why he was being executed in the first place. The Emperor demanded all the treasures of the church, so Lawrence rounds up a bunch of Widows, Orphans, Disabled, and other destitute people and says "these are the treasures of the church" and the emperor got so mad he had him grilled alive.
Jesus is the clouds on a hot, sunny day. He provides us shade, He gives us protection, He keeps us safe. But the clouds move throughout the day, the sun will beat down on us. We might get burned, we might sweat, we might get dehydrated. But Jesus is also our hats, our trees to sit under, our water to drink, even our sunscreen to protect our skin. Jesus is our safety. He will never leave us.
To love. To be loved. Because he thought we would love being. So that we could love each other, and love creation. So that he could become one of us. The answer to everything is Love.
it's very interesting to me that current stereotypes about Catholics amount to "they love suffering" when like 20 years ago the stereotypes were that they were alcoholics with ten kids. this change is probably related to the assimilation of white Catholic immigrant populations, I would imagine, but I'm not sure
but Catholic suffering remains a bizarre stereotype to me bc my Lutheran father was repressed and incapable of earthly pleasures and my Catholic mother told me sex was a gift from God. my mom's whole side of the family is Catholic and I never knew them to willingly suffer or deny themselves anything
