The newly emerged http://discmaster.textfiles.com archive crawler website came bearing gifts. Bsky user rabidrodent unearthed the most lucid captures of the Virtual Boy Mario Adventure project Nintendo dispreferred over the three dee jamborees of Mario Clash. The plumber's sprite shown here is quite striking, so much of it being composed of the colour black. What is most remarkable is that this cancelled project openly features some traditional Japanese, namely Kyoto cultural elements I don't quite remember seeing in any other Mario game of that era. Notice the 大 (Daimonji) character atop a mountain, a reference to the Gozan no Okuribi Summer festival fires.

There is also very suggestive use of the Torii gates. Habitually found at the entrance of Shinto shrines, they symbolize the passage from earthly to holy domains. Their functional representation in the game allows the player to move into a third dimension.

Lastly, we have what appears to be an interesting take on traditional Buddha head statues as a timed ascending/descending obstacle, shown here with the shape of Wario's visage and eccentrically jagged moustache.

WIP Intro | Tails & The Jade Bridge

It's time: Tails is leaving to start his own adventure. He's going to miss his big brother, but it's time to see what he's capable of alone. And what better way to start than by investigating an anomaly in his cutting-edge research into interdimensional space? But though Tails is ready to take on the world, is he really ready to take on two?

Tails & The Jade Bridge is an indie fan comic/passion project about siblings, coming of age, and the limits of what one person can do on their own, loosely inspired by Sonic Frontiers, the 1996 OVA, the IDW comics, the Sonic Riders series, and everything else I love about StH!

Will be released on tumblr, one page at a time, as I finish them.

any time before she wakes up

a date with audry is going to be my first concept album, following my two ocs, jade and audry going out on a date. theming is mostly about their close relationship with each other and how many things they experience in their life are made special because of them together and themselves.

this will be a ym2203 and ym2608-based album mostly following ryu umemoto's style of writing but equally adding my own spin to it, i'll be posting each track on tumblr since i want to make this fairly private, not a lot of my followerbase uses tumblr so this would be nice to slowly push out each track one by one; once the album is complete i will release a full album video on yt. this even gives me incentive to use tumblr more often!

the tricky part about this project is that i'm reusing whatever recordings i have in my backlog so we'll likely be getting interesting results

also considering if i should make an extended version of this

character theme for, you know who!

i think while conceptualizing jade one of the things that i noted was that most of her interests involved artistic endeavors like painting, gardening, playing music, cooking and the such. knowing she involves herself more into nature i thought that giving her an acoustic guitar as her main instrument very fitting. feel like the guitar playing here feels more like for a duo than a solo, so hopefully someone can confirm that this is playable as a solo for someone who quit guitar 3-4 years ago lol
