Lubbock anniversary “trip”

We were supposed to travel to Houston for a conference Rob was registered for and which coincided with our 6th wedding anniversary, but that trip had to be cancelled because of a long overdue roofing project FINALLY being scheduled at the same time (long, boring story).

So, we decided to avoid the loud roofing noises and still be nearby in case of construction catastrophe by treating our own city as a tourist destination. We enjoyed the downtown and wineries.

Some of the places we went: Dirks, the Narrow Bar, Nashwell Cafe, Auld Brewery, Wild Lark Bookstore, Monomouth Coffee, Rave On, Gold Stripe Coffee, English Newsom Winery, and Llano Winery (with stops at Market Street, Barnes and Noble, the mall, Specs, and Savage Tavern thrown in). It’s exhausting avoiding your house, but we had a great time enjoying some places we’ve never been in our own city as well as revisiting some others. We have really good wine here, btw (Llano not English Newsom).

Wine War: Lubbock vs. Ruidoso, Sangiovese

We belong to two wine clubs, Noisy Water from Ruidoso, NM, and McPherson Cellars in Lubbock, TX. We received a Sangiovese in our shipment from Noisy Water, and we have enjoyed the Sangiovese from McPherson in the past, so we decided to do a blind testing and see which one we liked better.

After we did our secret pours for one another in color coded glasses, the result was….BOTH! He preferred the McPherson and I preferred the Noisy Water. I liked they dry, spicy, robust flavor of the Ruidoso wine, and he liked the cleaner, mellower Lubbock wine. Looks like we each get our own bottle tonight!
